I tried. Then I gave up.

It's a bit difficult for me to get very excited knowing that Nelson will restrict the depo much more than it was restricted by the 5th DCA. Sorry.

In Zimmerman/Martin case, some see only what they want

There's an old joke about inkblot tests:

A psychiatrist shows his patient three amorphous inkblots and asks the patient what he sees.

"A topless woman, a naked man and orgy," the patient responds.

The doctor says he's noticing a disturbing trend — to which the patient responds: "Well, you're the one showing me all the dirty pictures."

The message is that people often see what they want to see. Which brings us to the George Zimmerman trial — this month's trial of the century … and our nation's current inkblot test.

Here, too, many people see only what they want. The only lessons learned are the ones they're convinced they already know.

If you were already convinced the world is full of young black thugs, well, there's a good chance that's what you saw in this case, too.

If you were convinced that minorities are unfairly profiled and unable to get equal justice, well, that's the story you see playing out again.

The perception divide goes well beyond race.

Take guns, for instance.

Gun-rights supporters hailed the case as proof that guns save lives. If Zimmerman hadn't carried a gun, they say, he wouldn't have been able to defend himself.

Yet gun-control proponents say the case proves that guns lead to unnecessary death and violence: If Zimmerman hadn't been carry a gun and feeling emboldened, no one would have died that night.

The exact same case supposedly proved the need for both more — and fewer — firearms.

It all depends on how you look at the inkblot — and what you are looking for.

USA Today recently compiled a roundup of pundits that was all over the map in lessons we were supposed to have learned. The headline read: "Zimmerman case divides those already decided." In other words: Everyone who already had a strong opinion was able to find something in this case to reinforce his or her beliefs.

As the trial has played out, witnesses have become the inkblots.

Nowhere was that more evident than in reaction to Martin's friend, Rachel Jeantel, the teenager who was the last person to speak with Trayvon Martin.

Ole Freddy Leatherhead and crew want so badly for GZ to testify. They know the states case is so weak the only chance they have is for GZ to take the stand and say something that opens the door for the prosecution to attempt to impeach him on the stand.

I don't see MoM/West or GZ making such a mistake. As RJ/DD would say "That's really retarded, Sir". I expect the defense will put on the a stellar case that blows the prosecutions case out the water.

Um, you say that like the state's witnesses didn't already blow their case out of the water! :Gslap

Oh, I'm sure the Trayborg™ are desperate for anything to confirm their year-long, willfully-blind, faith. It was going to be the witnesses, then GZ's statements, then the forensics, blah, blah. The only thing left is GZ testimony. Everything else has blown up on the state. Making an icky mess too, from their perspective. ;)

quoting a friend of mine that lives in Sanford as he was leaving his friends bar downtown "1st signs of civil unrest in Sanford last night as a crowd ran through down town yelling at every white and Hispanic person calling them Pussy ass crackers. "

We received an interesting email from our neighborhood watch captain today. He and his wife were awakened during the night by loud sounds outside their window. When they looked out it was some sort of animal. Their description was of a large, menacing animal. It could have been a wild boar by their description. But what I found interesting was these comments:

" I can tell you that even behind a close door with a gun in my hand I was afraid of whatever this thing was."

"I have a permit to carry a concealed weapon and I am going to be taking precautions while walking in the neighborhood. I am assuming that those with children and pets should be especially on guard."

We aren't to familiar with this neighbor, but my husband said, even behind close doors, with a gun in his hand, he was afraid. I thought having a gun was suppose to make you fearless? Now, should we be concerned we have a "cowboy" in the neighborhood? I imagine he could easily find himself in the same position as George.

Tara deserves HUGE credit for finding the ABC clip... but just a note... it's good old Rumpole who uploaded it to YT :cool

Reposting V.P. tweet and link to her blog providing the three DeeDee samples for comparison

So nice to see a popular Judge come out and say the state had no case.

Rumpole (or anyone),
Who is the girl pictured on the YouTube #3 on your post above (How many Witness 8s are there?)? It says DeeDee (Trayvon's girlfriend) and it clearly isn't Rachel Jeantel.

Actually the defense fired a few rounds across the bow of the prosecution, now comes the time for a full on 9 gun broadside to blow their entire case out of the water.

Just FYI, I took a few days off at the lake house, but followed the testimony Friday up to the ME taking the stand, along with all comments here. Then my wifi connection went on the blink and the family had 100% of my time! I caught up on the comments here and elsewhere yesterday, about lost it when I read about the personal notes ...what a dipstick!

Just want to thank all for doing such a wonderful job on sharing the information and a few personal opinions. I think I need to find time to watch the ME's testimony narrative of whatever messages the idiot was looking to get across to the jury!!!!

Looks like the tide many be turning it appears that Dan Abrams at ABC doesn't think GZ will be convicted of 2nd degree murder or manslaughter.
