50 killed in Florida nightclub, shooter pledged ISIS allegiance
By Ashley Fantz, Faith Karimi and Eliott C. McLaughlin, CNN
Updated 1824 GMT (0224 HKT) June 12, 2016

Orlando, Florida (CNN) A gay nightclub here was the scene early Sunday of the worst terror attack in U.S. history since 9/11.
  • 50 people were killed inside the Pulse club and at least 53 people were injured, police say.
  • The gunman was Omar Mateen of Ft. Pierce, Florida, a law enforcement source told CNN.
  • Orlando police shot and killed Mateen
  • Mateen called 911 around the time of the attack to pledge allegiance to ISIS and mention the Boston bombers, according
to a U.S. official.
"It appears he was organized and well-prepared," Orlando Police Chief John Mina said early Sunday. The shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and "some type of (other) device on him."

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack on jihadi forums, but ISIS sympathizers have reacted by praising the attack on pro-Islamic State forums.

The Guardian has a LIVE BLOG...
(has been good source with other tragedies...)

https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/ ... ct-updates

What we know

  • A gunman killed 50 people and left 53 others injured, many seriously, in an attack on an LGBT nightclub, the Pulse, in Orlando, Florida, at about 2am Sunday morning. After an approximately three-hour standoff with hostages, police stormed the building, killed the gunman and rescued about 30 people.
  • The massacre is the worst mass shooting in American history, and like several recent mass shootings was committed by a man with an AR-15 assault rifle. The gunman also had a handgun.
  • Barack Obama declared the attack “an act of terror and an act of hate”, and cautioned that the investigation was still in its early stages. “No act of hate or terror will ever change who we are or the values that make us Americans.”
  • Muslim American leaders, LGBT groups, Pope Francis and others condemned the horrific attack, and urged Americans to rally together and to give blood for the victims struggling to stay alive. Equality Florida set up a fund to take donations, and Florida blood banks urged residents to make sure they arrived at times when banks were not overwhelmed.
  • Survivors and the families of victims recalled horrific stories of how the attack unfolded, and many waited in fear and anticipation to learn whether their loved ones were victims. Police have not yet released names of the victims.
  • Law enforcement sources identified the gunman as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, a US citizen from Fort Pierce, Florida. A US official told the Guardian the attack may have been a “massive hate crime”, possibly directed at LGBT people, and sources told NBC News that Mateen had called 911 to pledge allegiance to the terror group Isis. Mateen’s father told the network that his son had become enraged by a gay couple kissing, and the gunman’s ex-wife told the Washington Post that he was an abusive and unstable man.
  • Authorities have not publicly announced a link to organized terror groups, and no terror group has taken credit for the attack. A Florida senator said officials believe there is a link to “radicalism” and an FBI agent said: “We do have suggestions that that individual may have had leanings toward that, that particular ideology. But right now we can’t say anything definitively.”
  • The FBI and police asked the public to call them about the case and about similar warning signs around the country. Los Angeles police arrested a heavily armed man who intended to go to the city’s Gay Pride Parade after a Santa Monica resident tipped them off.

Update....

What we know so far
  • A gunman killed 50 people and left 53 others injured, many seriously, in a 2am attack on LGBT nightclub the Pulse, in Orlando, Florida. After an hours-long standoff, police stormed the building, killed the gunman and rescued about 30 hostages.
  • The massacre is the worst mass shooting in American history, and like several recent mass shootings was committed by a man with an AR-15 assault rifle.
  • Barack Obama declared the attack “an act of terror and an act of hate”, and cautioned that the investigation was still in its early stages. “No act of hate or terror will ever change who we are or the values that make us Americans.”
  • Authorities released the first names of victims, after notifying kin. The first four people named were Edward Sotomayor Jr, Stanley Almodovar III, Luis Omar Ocasio-Capo, Juan Ramon Guerrero.
  • The gunman was identified as 29-year-old Omar Mateen, a US citizen from Fort Pierce, Florida. He was known to the FBI, special agent Ron Hopper told reporters, and the subject of two investigations into terror links in 2013 and 2014. Those investigations were deemed inconclusive and closed, he said.
  • The shooter called 911 before the attack and spoke with an emergency operator in “general to the Islamic State”, Hopper said. No terror group has claimed responsibility.
  • Mateen bought a long gun and a handgun legally in the last week, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms said. “He is not a prohibitive person so he can legally walk into a gun dealership.”
  • Survivors and the families of victims recalled horrific stories of how the attack unfolded, and many waited in fear and anticipation to learn whether their loved ones were victims. Police have not yet released names of the victims.
  • Muslim American leaders, LGBT groups, Pope Francis and others condemned the horrific attack, and urged Americans to rally together. The FBI solicited the public for tips to aid the investigation, blood banks asked for donations around the US, and a fundraising campaign for victims’ medical bills raised $416,000. Authorities set up hotlines for information and campaigns for donations.
  • A US official told the Guardian the attack may have been a “massive hate crime”. Mateen’s father told NBC News that his son had become enraged by a gay couple kissing, and the gunman’s ex-wife told the Washington Post that he was an abusive and unstable man.

Orlando gunman visited club on night of attack, left and returned
By Evan Perez and Shimon Prokupecz, CNN
Updated 1913 GMT (0313 HKT) June 21, 2016

Image

(CNN) The Orlando gunman went to the Pulse nightclub earlier Saturday night and then left before returning to carry out his attack as the gay club prepared to close early Sunday morning, law enforcement officials say.
The gunman paid the entry fee, obtained a wrist band, and entered the club, the officials said. Investigators believe he may have been checking the club security. Surveillance video, cell phone tracking along with witness interviews have helped the FBI to build a timeline of his whereabouts on the night of the attack. But they are still working to determine what he was doing for a two-hour period between when he left the club and returned.
The day before, he had bought three plane tickets for him, his wife, Noor Salman, and child to travel from West Palm Beach to San Francisco in July. Investigators don't know why, if he was planning an attack, he made travel plans.

From CTH...

Quote:
Occam’s Razor – Noor Zahi Salman obviously knew of the airline tickets. She knew of him leaving, and she knew the intended target – she took him there previously. Everything his wife has stated after the event should be dismissed as trying to give the impression of not knowing, because every fact related to this terror attack points to her direct involvement.

‘You’re annoying me with these phone calls and I don’t really appreciate it’: Chilling calls between ranting Pulse gunman who slaughtered 49 people ‘in the name of ISIS’ and police are released

• Chilling audio of the Pulse nightclub shooter Omar Mateen speaking with police dispatch and negotiators have been released after a judge order
• Tapes of Mateen speaking to dispatch reveal a cold and calm demeanor
• Mateen tells a police negotiator he's bombed cars and pledges to ISIS
• The shooter also referred to Boston Marathon bomber as his 'homeboy'
• Claims he went on shooting rampage because of bombings in Syria, Iraq

By Kalhan Rosenblatt | Dailymail.com | Updated: 20:35 EDT, 31 October 2016

Audio tapes of Omar Mateen speaking to police on the phone after shooting 49 people dead and wounding 68 others in Pulse Nightclub in Orlando have been released.

On Monday, a judge in Orlando ordered the tapes to be released.

Circuit Judge Margaret Schreiber said the tapes of Mateen talking to police dispatch and negotiators must be made public but she won't rule on releasing other 911 calls until she has listened to them.
[...]
Mateen's call audio is the first of 232 other phone calls made during the shooting to be released to the public.

Judge Schreiber says she can't make a decision on whether 232 other calls can be released until she has heard them.

Media groups want the calls released so the public can evaluate the police response to the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

The city of Orlando says the calls depict suffering and shouldn't be made public.

F.B.I. Arrests Wife of Killer in Orlando Mass Shooting
By ADAM GOLDMAN
January 16, 2017

WASHINGTON — The wife of the man who carried out a deadly terrorist attack in Orlando, Fla., has been arrested in connection with the mass shooting, a law enforcement official said Monday.

The woman, Noor Salman, was taken into custody by F.B.I. agents at her home outside of San Francisco. Prosecutors had been weighing charges against her in the aftermath of the attack that killed 49 people and wounded dozens. A person familiar with details of the arrest said Ms. Salman was charged with obstruction.

Ms. Salman’s husband, Omar Mateen, was killed in a shootout with police during the rampage in a gay club on June 12, 2016. Investigators interviewed Ms. Salman for hours after the attack and came to believe she was not telling the truth about her husband’s plans to carry out the rampage.

She is expected to make an initial appearance on Tuesday in federal court in San Francisco.

Noor Salman, wife of Pulse nightclub shooter, pleads not guilty
By KTVU.com | January 18 2017, 11:47AM PST

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU and wires) - Noor Salman, the wife of the Orlando nightclub shooter, appeared in an Oakland courtroom Wednesday and pleaded not guilty on all counts regarding involvement in the Orlando nightclub shooting.

A bail hearing will be held for Salman on Feb. 1 to determine whether or not she can be released on bail or remain in the Santa Rita jail.

This comes after she appeared in court Tuesday after federal prosecutors had unsealed a two-count indictment against Salman.

The document says Noor Salman, between April and June of last year, "did knowingly aid and abet" her husband's attempt to support the Islamic State group.

Regarding the shooter wife's bond in above article, she received bond by a magistrate judge in Oakland, CA but a Federal Judge in Orlando, FL revoked the decision and ordered Noor Salman be jailed until trial. Noor filed a notice to appeal Wednesday with the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Atlanta.

Judge threatens to dismiss lawsuit filed by Pulse victims against shooter's wife, employer
By Christal Hayes | Orlando Sentinel | March 26, 2017

The federal judge overseeing a lawsuit filed by dozens of survivors and family members of victims in the Pulse nightclub shooting is threatening to dismiss the case, according to court documents.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra filed an order dismissing the suit less than 24 hours after the case was opened Wednesday in Fort Pierce federal court.

Marra questioned whether he has jurisdiction over the case, according to the order.

He gave lawyers for Pulse nightclub family members and survivors 10 days from Thursday to amend their lawsuit or said he would dismiss the case. As of Sunday, nothing new had been filed or amended.

Psychologist who examined widow of Pulse gunman can testify at trial, judge rules
By: Shannon Butler | WFTV | Updated: Jan 5, 2018 - 10:12 PM

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. - Attorneys for Noor Salman are fighting to get some evidence inadmissible before she’s set to go to trial in March in Orlando’s federal courthouse.

Investigators have said Salman knew about the planned attack and did nothing to stop shooting. Salman faces charges of aiding a former terrorist organization and obstruction of justice. Some of that evidence still under review includes statements given to the FBI and other evidence.

A judge ruled Friday that psychologist Bruce Frumkin, of Miami, can testify in the trial. It’s not clear what he could testify about because that information is sealed, but he did examine Salman on behalf of the defense.

Trial begins March 1 in Orlando.

Noor Salman Trial
Here's how to follow developments in the trial of the Pulse gunman's widow
By Brianna Volz | ClickOrlando.com | March 3, 2018

ORLANDO, Fla. - The trial is underway for Noor Salman, the widow of the Pulse shooter Omar Mateen, and News 6 has complete coverage of it available on all platforms.

Salman, 31, was indicted by the U.S. Justice Department in January 2017 with aiding and abetting and obstruction of justice. Prosecutors allege she knew about her husband’s plan to orchestrate the mass shooting and did not do anything to stop him.

The trial is taking place at the U.S. District Courthouse in downtown Orlando, about 2 miles from the site of the June 12, 2016, nightclub shooting in which 49 people were killed.

Because it's in federal court, there are no audio or video feeds to the public of the trial, but News 6 will have multiple crews at the courthouse each day working to bring you the latest developments.

Here's how you can follow along:

Noor Salman trial started today.

Prosecutors: Pulse gunman's widow knew he'd commit an attack
By: Jason Kelly, Kelly Healey | WFTV | Updated: Mar 14, 2018, 6:01 PM

ORLANDO, Fla. - Testimony began Wednesday in the trial of Noor Salman, the widow of a man who fatally shot 49 people and injured dozens more in a June 2016 attack at Pulse Orlando nightclub.

The case hinges on whether Salman knowingly helped her husband, Omar Mateen, plan the attack. She faces charges of aiding the support of a foreign terrorist organization resulting in death and obstruction of justice.

Defense attorneys told jurors that Salman knew nothing of Mateen's plans, saying that he was a monster and she was a mother whose only sin was being married to him.

But Assistant U.S. Attorney James Mandolfo told jurors that Salman's behavior in the weeks before the massacre -- a money trail and visits to Disney Springs and the nightclub -- indicate that she knew of Mateen's plans. He also mentioned Salman's confession to FBI agents.

Defense begins their testimony today.
A motion for acquittal was denied by the judge.

Motion reveals Pulse gunman's father was FBI informant
By Mark Lehman, Daniel Dahm | ClickOrlando | March 26, 2018

ORLANDO, Fla. - Attorneys for Noor Salman are calling for a mistrial after they say new details from prosecutors reveal that Pulse gunman Omar Mateen's father was an FBI source and is currently under a criminal investigation.

According to a motion filed by the defense, prosecutors sent an email on Saturday that stated Seddique Mateen was a confidential FBI source from 2005 through June 2016.

The email also stated that Seddique Mateen is being investigated for money transfers to Turkey and Pakistan after documents were found in his home on the day of the Pulse attack.

Salman's attorneys claim the late disclosure of the information prevented them from exploring whether or not Seddique Mateen knew of his son's plans to attack the nightclub on June 12, 2016.

The government email to Salman's attorneys also states that in 2012, "An anonymous tip indicated that Seddique Mateen was seeking to raise $50,000-$100,000 via a donation drive to contribute toward an attack against the government of Pakistan."

According to the motion, the defense states that the decision not to give Noor Salman a polygraph was possibly "based on the FBI's desire to implicate Noor Salman, rather than Seddique Mateen in order to avoid scrutiny of its own ineptitude with the latter."

The defense also said Seddique's connection with the FBI played a role in a 2013 investigation into Omar Mateen for allegedly making threats against coworkers.

“Mateen’s father played a significant role in the FBI’s decision not to seek an indictment from the Justice Department for false statements to the FBI or obstruction of justice against Omar Mateen” during its 2013 investigation into his alleged threats," the motion stated.

After reading this LONG article, I don't know how she was found not guilty.
But you never know unless you're there in the jury room. :roll

Noor Salman verdict: Omar Mateen's widow not guilty of all charges in Pulse massacre
By Gal Tziperman Lotan, Krista Torralva | Orlando Sentinel | March 30, 2018

Noor Salman is not guilty of helping her husband, Omar Mateen, carry out the mass shooting that claimed 49 lives at Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016, a jury decided Friday.

The 12-member jury delivered its verdict after deliberating for about 12 hours over three days. Salman was also acquitted of obstruction of justice. Prosecutors accused her of lying to the FBI agents who investigated her husband’s mass murder, which he carried out in support of a foreign terror group, the Islamic State.

Had she been convicted, Salman, 31, would have faced up to life in prison.
