I see tweets about protests, but there is no way to know how extensive they are. A lot of tweets are repeats. Some in Tehran, some in the odd other place, so who knows how big it all is? It does seem that Iran is prepared to beat and shoot and arrest people. It would be nice if the uprising takes hold and there is a regime change, but what are the chances? The Gilets jaunes began in France in October 2018.. and they have not won. And Hong Kong… still going after months.

Sara M. executed in Mashhad Prison – 104 women executed under Rouhani
January 14, 2020 in Women's News

A woman named Sara M. was executed in Mashhad Prison. The execution was announced in the state media on January 14, 2020.

In 2016, Sara M. was sent to prison at the age of 32. The execution was carried out at Mashhad Central Prison last week. The 35-year-old was executed after spending three years in prison on death row. The official state media have not yet announced the exact date of the execution. (The state-run Rokna news agency – January 14, 2020)

With this execution, the total number of women executed during Rouhani’s tenure reaches 104. This is the first execution of women in 2020 which has been announced in the state media. In 2019, the mullahs’ regime hanged 16 women in tandem with increasing suppression and executions in Iran. In the three weeks of December 2019, alone, six women were executed by the regime in various Iranian prisons.

On January 9, 2020, the House of Representatives voted 224–194 to pass a non-binding War Powers Resolution to limit the president's ability to pursue military actions against Iran without congressional consent.

Now it is being debated in Senate..... and the dopey bastards are predicted to pass it!!! :doh

Senate debates Iran War Powers resolution ahead of expected vote

Washington (CNN)The Senate is expected to pass a War Powers resolution this week aimed at restraining the President's ability to use military action against Iran without congressional approval, a move that comes amid simmering tensions with the country in the wake of a US strike that killed a top Iranian general.
Debate on the resolution is getting underway on Wednesday, and a final vote is expected on Thursday.
Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia kicked off that debate in a Senate floor speech in support of the resolution.

"We should not be at war with Iran unless Congress votes to authorize such a war," Kaine said. "While the President does and must always have the ability to defend the United States from imminent attack, the executive power to initiate war stops there. An offensive war requires a congressional debate and vote. This should not be a controversial proposition."
The resolution has bipartisan support from Republican senators, including, Mike Lee of Utah, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of Maine who have signed on as co-sponsors. As a result, the measure is expected to have the 51 votes needed to pass.

Cryin' Chuck argued on Tuesday that passage in the House and Senate will send a warning to the White House, even if the President vetoes the measure.

Apparently this resolution is likely to PASS in the Senate. I have seen Republicans like Mike Lee speaking with DIM dopes like Tim Kaine. Given what we have seen recently I would NOT want Senate in charge of anything.. and the House is a joke. I might take this move seriously (limit a President) if they had done stuff like this to check an out of control Obama… but of course they did not.

I watched a (little) bit of the Senate debate. Rand Paul actually made a good case. His examples were all about What Obama and others did, rather than Trump, and I do agree that in general ( if things not imminent) Presidents should run plans for war (big military action) through Congress… if you had a PROPER Congress and not just a bunch of partisan hacks like Schiff, Naddler, Pelosi etc who would be out to make political points… leak info to the enemy if they could make a buck. AND THE POINT REMAINS….Congress gave Obama a pass, so this move is likely more to do with TDS than a legit concern for the Constitution.

Here Are the 8 Republican Senators Who Voted With Dems to Pass War Powers Measure

The U.S. Senate voted Wednesday to advance a War Powers resolution which would limit President Donald Trump’s ability to use military action against Iran without approval from Congress.

The vote was bipartisan, 51-45, with eight Republicans voting with Democrats. The eight Republicans included Utah Sen. Mike Lee, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, Maine Sen. Susan Collins, Tennessee Sen. Lamar Alexander, Louisiana Sen. Bill Cassidy, Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and Indiana Sen. Todd Young.

President Trump will likely veto this War Powers measure just like he did last year.

After Stonewalling For Days, Sen. Chris Murphy Finally Admits He Secretly Met With Iranian Regime In Munich
February 18, 2020 By Madeline Osburn

Image

Sen. Chris Murphy confirmed The Federalist’s reporting that he privately met with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif without State Department knowledge or approval in Munich last week.

After Mollie Hemingway first reported the meeting Monday, Murphy did not respond to any media inquiries. Tuesday, he published an account of his trip on Medium, sharing details of his meetings and describing his “mission” to meet with officials of Iran, which he described as “our adversary, responsible for the killing of thousands of Americans.”

Murphy also described his “goals” for meeting with Zarif, but admitted that he “cannot conduct diplomacy on behalf of the whole of the U.S. government, and I don’t pretend to be in a position to do so. But if Trump isn’t going to talk to Iran, then someone should.”
