I'm a huge fan of the series (love SciFi/Fantasy). I was thinking of starting a thread, but I didn't think we had any other fans here...so glad I'm wrong! In the US, we have just seen episode 4 of Season 2. Has Season 2 made it to Oz yet?

I bought the first 3 novels months and months ago, but don't have anytime to read them. One day *sigh*

I've tried to convince Rumpy to give the show another chance, but no luck!

I watched the premier.... I had to... being a huge fan of Sean Bean (Especially in ALL the "Sharpe" Series)... but frankly I was overwhelmed with the number of characters.... and decide I didn't WANT to come to grips with that lot. Reminded me of ploughing my way thru Dr Zivago as a teen :24

Also it was a con!!! A few episodes shown on a new channel (SOHO)... free for a couple of weeks.. then you had to subscribe. Apart from Game of Thrones I did not want the channel (I already pay for Sky TV and extra for Sports).

Series two is running now... 3rd episode.

You have same/similar "Sky Network" in Oz.

(SHARPE series are well worth watching.... all available on YT)

Rumpy...yes, the number of characters, all the places, history, banners, etc is a little overwhelming at first. I just watch each episode a few times and/or watch all of Season One a few times. It's so good anyway, I'd watch it multiple times regardless.

I've heard the books are even better. My memory's not that great, so I think it would be much harder to maybe remember who's who and what's what. Maybe after Season Two ends, I'll try again!

I loved Sean Bean in LOTR and in GOT. :10

Do you have any favorite characters yet? I love Peter Dinklage's Tyrion! (I just discovered that he won an Emmy and Golden Globe for his performance...so well deserved! :91 He's also from New Jersey and a vegetarian :89 )

Not sure if Dr Who would go down well in US? It's very British.

I have been watching it from it's very early, black and white, hokey beginnings. That history helps with the appreciation.. but the new improved WELSH production is good enough to stand alone.

Dr. Who was very big in the United States. At least everyone I was in touch with seemed ot like it way back in time too.

That is good to hear.
It was a "Must watch" in NZ back in the 60's.. it was a bit amateurish back then...but did get much more professional (1963 to 1989)

But a Great format since the doctor can be "killed off" but still survive in his next reincarnation.

The series ended (1989) but maintained a cult following... then it was revived 2005 by BBC Wales, and producer Russell T Davies.

Yes, my friends that are into SciFi love Dr. Who and have followed it since the beginning, but I never started watching it. Image

I watch way more SciFi movies than tv shows. For a while, I watched every new SciFi tv show, but most got cancelled fairly quickly, so I didn't bother anymore! I don't watch much tv anymore, except for Game of Thrones and a few others.

I finally started reading the Game of Thrones novel (as much as I can read during my lunch hour) and it is FABULOUS!! (And a lot easier to follow since I know most of the characters and storyline from the tv series.) I usually don't like to read a novel if I've seen the movie/tv show and won't watch a movie if I've read the novel, but in this case the novel and the tv series are both excellent!!

Last night was the premiere episode of GOT Season Three. It was fantastic, even though I've read all the novels so far.

Any other fans here?

Love the series, HBO has done a great job bringing the series to life on TV, despite its limitations. The show might do all present books before the author finishes last books.

Yes! I assume George R. R. Martin has planned on how the story is going to end, but I think it's going to take him a long, long time to get all the story lines to converge. Especially since he keeps adding more and more characters, locations, etc!

I normally don't like it when there are changes made to the novels, but I think the HBO series has done a great job with the changes they've made. I saw an interview with G.M.M. Martin and IIRC, they consult with him about it.
