Boris said to be scrapping BBC license fee...

Back in the day.... The "BBC Fee" made some sense.... but not now obviously.
BBC was ad-free... provided NEWS service as well as Drama productions etc. In fact BBC PROVIDED TV content.. there was NOTHING ELSE when TV started up in UK. People bought (or rented) TV sets.. then paid the "license" for the content being broadcast. People had not thought of funding models, other than via taxes or via (intrusive) ads. Making it a TV License Fee, rather than simply a grant from general taxation, also made sense at the time. Many people said they were "happy" to pay a fee for a service with no ads.

We had same sort of thing in NZ... people's boycott to NOT PAY... government actually took people to court to force payment... but there wer too many and in the end the TV license was scrapped.
HOWEVER.. Government still fund TV shows... they just use General taxation money.

The race is on … and the next Labour leader is likely to be a woman

Six of the seven probable challengers are female, and all will be keen to connect with traditional party supporters

The battle to succeed Jeremy Corbyn and shape the future direction of the Labour party is under way as potential successors set out their leadership stalls for the first time, amid bitter recriminations after the party’s worst general election defeat since 1935.

Boris Johnson insists there will be 'no alignment' with the EU after Brexit
Gordon Rayner, Political Editor Peter Foster, Europe Editor James Crisp, Brussels Correspondent
20 December 2019

Boris Johnson insisted that Britain would not follow any EU rules after Brexit as he set up a showdown with Brussels over a trade deal.

The Prime Minister made clear that he would pursue a hard Brexit by saying there would be “no alignment” between the two sides, defying the EU’s claim that it was a “must” for any future relationship.

On a historic day for Britain’s relationship with the rest of Europe, the Brexit “divorce” Bill sailed through the Commons with a majority of 124 on Friday, and will become law on Jan 9, enabling a Jan 31 exit and for trade negotiations to begin in earnest.
