There was supposed to be a Brussels Press conference by EU leaders...
Followed by press conference by Teresa May

That was due 4 hours ago? Still not happened... It's 10:15pm in UK (11:25 pm in Brussels)....who knows if it will happen at all tonight?

UPDATE
But, after a marathon day of talks, it appears that EU leaders are inching towards a consensus. "The text is approaching stable," one EU diplomat tells CNN.
Once EU leaders agree to a text, we'll see European Council President Donald Tusk and EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker at a press conference, followed by a statement by British Prime Minister Theresa May.

I THINK this is the 12th April delay option?
I can NOT see any point to that.. especially if it is just a "technical delay" to implement Brexit AFTER UK Parliament passes the crap Teresa May "deal". That has already been rejected twice.. and it's not legal to even present it to Parliament yet again?

Here are the details of the Brexit agreement

EU leaders have come up with a two-part plan designed to avoid Britain crashing out without a deal on March 29.

They have agreed to delay the Brexit process until May 22, if Theresa May can secure approval to the Withdrawal Agreement in parliament at the third attempt next week.

According to the final text of the deal, leaders agreed to delay the Brexit process until May 22, if Theresa May can secure approval to the Withdrawal Agreement in the UK Parliament next week.

If May's deal fails, the UK's membership of the EU will be extended unconditionally until April 12, by which point the EU Council "expects the United Kingdom to indicate a way forward".

What a fiasco....

May is STILL pushing her crap deal.... no alternative... and so obviously a "Hard Brexit" will happen.... why not NOW rather than 12th April???

The "alternative is a LONG extension.. and UK electing a new crop of MEP's :doh

Amongst the things I don't understand....

1. Why was this crap not sorted out 2 years ago?

2. Why is there still no alternative "deal" at least proposed by UK as a counter offer to EU?
The Theresa May deal was REJECTED early on when she presented it to Cabinet at Chequers (November 2018).
Brexit Secretary David Davis announced he was no longer on board. Boris Johnson, who also expressed concerns over the plan, later resigned as Foreign Secretary.
And it has in fact been voted on TWICE since then and rejected by a large majority in Parliament.
So WHY is there no "counter offer" presented to EU? It seems the EU aree refusing to even consider anything? So... screw them!... But at least lay out an offer which could now be held up as UK's alternative???

I wrote email to LBC host, Darren Adam
Quote:
Hi
I am a NZ resident since I was a child, but FWIW a British citizen.

What I find hard to understand is WHY there is no "Counter Offer" by UK to EU?

The Teresa May deal was essentially what she was offered by the EU. It was not received well, even by May's own Cabinet, and since it has in fact been voted against TWICE in Parliament. So WHY is nobody proposing an alternative (other than "no deal")

Regards
xxxxx

Also sent to Ian Payne.....
Quote:
Why is there no "Plan B"

Theresa May's deal is basically an "offer" by the EU.
It was badly received, even by May's own Cabinet. It was then turned down by Parliament.. TWICE.
Surely there should have been a "Counter offer" agreed to by UK Parliament and presented to the EU.

And Tom Swarbrick ....
Quote:
Hi

IF there was to be a second referendum it would (to some extent) be a vote "under duress" caused by the poor way that Brexit has been handled in the past 2 years. I can understand that some people are "fed up" now, and so perhaps more likely to vote "Remain" just to put an end to the nonsense.

Not a fair vote at all now.

Regards
xxxxxx

Another email to LBC

To Nick Abbot
Quote:
FWIW I am a British citizen... but resident of NZ since I was a child :)

One problem with a second referendum is that the voting pool is "contaminated" by 3 years of failure (incompetence) by Parliament to enact Brexit... so the second vote would include that "duress factor"
It sets a precedent for Parliament to "drag their heals" on future issues.

I wonder if remainers would accept a 2nd referendum IF the caveat was that if Brexit wins again.... then hard Brexit follows immediately...the day the vote tally is certified?

The latest I hear is that even Nigel Farage has "blinked"...

Apparently Theresa May has absolutely taken "no deal Brexit" off the table.... and given that.... Nigel is promoting a years delay in enacting article 50 as BETTER than accepting The EU deal (May's deal). :doh

If they were the only 2 options... I might agree.... but they are NOT!!! ...and Nigel should hold firm. Article 50 came with 2 years to negotiate a "deal".. or leave with no deal. And all agreed that "no deal" would happen on 29th May. NOTHING has changed. After 2 years a deal was NOT negotiated other than the EU/May deal (seen as NOT BREXIT itself).. and that was rejected when shown to cabinet.. and twice rejected by a vote in Parliament. NO DEAL (WTO rules) is now supposed to take effect 29th March. There is NO POINT in any extension. EU have stated absolutely they will NOT ACCEPT a "better deal for UK".. and to be fair they show no signs of relenting over the 2 year period. Anther year will not change that. We will be in this same position in a year... facing a no deal Brexit. I STILL want to see that happen this Friday.

Not So Fast, Parliament Has Not Seized Control Of Brexit

Quote:
In light of the Letwin amendment passing, on Wednesday 27th March, MPs will vote on a series of options to establish what could command a majority in parliament. The result of any such indicative votes would not be binding on the government as it goes against the Tory manifesto. There is no official list of options, although one has been generated by the Commons select committee for exiting the EU.

Likely Options subject to "Indicative vote" in Parliament on Wednesday

1. PM MAY’S DEAL: The deal has been rejected twice already by parliament but remains the only deal the EU can quickly ratify and therefore remains an option. If voted on, it will attract support from May loyalists, but DUP and ERG remain opposed.

2. NO DEAL BREXIT: This would lead to the UK leaving the EU on the new revised date of April 12th on WTO terms. HoC have twice voted against this option, albeit by only four votes last time.

3. ELIMINATING A BACKSTOP: This, in theory would mean re-writing the Withdrawal Agreement, something the EU repeatedly dismissed. A variant would be to promote "alternative arrangements" i.e., technology to monitor the flow of good that could replace the backstop. The EU have previously agreed to examine this, although implementation could take years.

4. CANADA-STYLE DEAL: A popular idea with hardcore Brexiteers, this would focus on the future trade deal with the EU rather than the Withdrawal Agreement. In theory, the UK would accept no continuing regulatory alignment with the EU, although is unclear how far the EU is willing to negotiate this. However, this would not solve the impasse regarding the Northern Irish border, nor has there been signs of many Labour are willing to support this.

5. NORWAY-PLUS DEAL: This soft-Brexit alternative would keep the UK in the single market by remaining in the European Economic Area (EEA) and European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Unlike EFTA, the deal would also keep the UK in the customs union (hence the plus). The deal has been promoted by a group of Tory backbenchers, Labour leader Corbyn has also shown some interest and some believe it would be the most popular option given a free vote. The Sun reported last night that over 100 are ready to back this deal after PM May's deal is killed off.

6. LABOUR DEAL: This would mean the UK remains in a customs union with the EU and remain close to the single market. European Council President Tusk has previously deemed this as “promising”, although the plan was rejected by parliament. The Labour deal is unlikely to attract support of the Conservatives.

7. SECOND REFERENDUM: A replay of the 2016 referendum would be a separate option although nobody in parliament is seriously calling for that. However, a referendum could be attached to one of the options above. When a second referendum was put on PM May’s deal before the HoC this month, only 85 MPs voted for it after labour ordered its MPs to abstain.

There is a BREXIT RALLY in London on Friday

Organized by UKIP and others... Tommy Robinson involved.

These protests are all well and good... but IGNORED by the powers that be. Look at the outcry over Tommy Robinson's abuse by The State... yet they continue to attack/try him.

I DO NOT want to see violence/riots... but it is time for more action than just a March/Protest.

My suggestion is to "Boycott the EU"

I KNOW Brexit is NOT about reducing trade with EU... but in this instance to send them a message, financial pain is a weapon. People should reduce purchases of EU country products and services.. and stop visiting those Countries. I realize that it wont be all transactions... but it could be a significant reduction?

List of EU Countries
Austria
Bulgaria
Croatia
Cyprus
Czechia
Denmark
Estonia
Finland
France
Germany
Greece
Hungary
Ireland
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Luxembourg
Malta
Netherlands
Poland
Portugal
Romania
Slovakia
Slovenia
Spain
Sweden

I now hear rumblings about accepting Theresa May's deal.... :doh
(Jacob Rees-Mogg said to be betraying his previous absolute condemnation of May's deal)

At this stage I think that will be a disaster.

People at least KNOW that "crashing out" of EU will mean new rules... new paperwork etc... but what happens with the new deal? Nothing? There will be confusion about what, if anything, has changed.

In effect there will be all the confusion of a Brexit.. even extra confusion.. for which "brexit" will be blamed even though the "deal" changes nothing (short term) :roll

AND... the fact remains that smart people say this "deal" is not only WORSE than being in the EU..Trapped and no representation or say in what EU does. It is also binding in international law and can not be changed. It is NOT seen as brexit at all.
