Trump pardons former Navy sailor imprisoned for taking photos on nuclear submarine
by Steven Nelson | Mar 9, 2018, 2:34 PM

President Trump issued the second pardon of his presidency Friday to former Navy sailor Kristian Saucier.

Saucier was sentenced to a year in prison during the 2016 campaign for taking pictures inside a nuclear submarine. Trump invoked his case repeatedly on the campaign trail, saying he was “ruined” for doing “nothing” compared to Hillary Clinton. Saucier was 22 years old when he took the cellphone photos in 2009.

Trump Restores Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher to Former Rank, Pardons 2 Others
Posted by Ken Stone on November 15, 2019 in Military

Image

President Trump has restored Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher to the rank of chief petty officer after being docked a pay grade in the wake of his posing for a photo with a dead ISIS fighter, the White House said Friday.

Rep. Duncan D. Hunter hailed that move and two others — Trump granting clemency to Army officers Clint Lorance and Matt Golsteyn, both accused of war crimes.

“While today is a victory for our warfighters, I will remain committed to fixing our broken military justice system,” Hunter said in a tweet.

The White House said Trump granted full pardons to 1st Lt. Lorance and Maj. Golsteyn “and an order directing the promotion of Special Warfare Operator First Class Edward R. Gallagher to the grade of E-7, the rank he held before he was tried and found not guilty of nearly all of the charges against him.”

Hunter was cited in the White House statement as being among lawmakers seeking executive clemency for Lorance and Golsteyn along with 124,000 people who signed a petition to the White House.

Six years after being found guilty of second-degree murder, Lorance was serving a 19-year sentence at Fort Leavenworth for ordering his soldiers to open fire and kill three men in Afghanistan, Fox News noted.

“Golsteyn, a former Green Beret, who will have his murder charge dropped,” Fox News said.

After Trump intervenes, Navy launches review of SEAL's fitness to serve in elite force
Barbara Starr-Profile-Image

By Barbara Starr, CNN Pentagon Correspondent

(CNN)Navy officials are expected to notify Navy SEAL Eddie Gallagher on Wednesday that they are launching an administrative review of his fitness to continue to serve as a SEAL, days after President Donald Trump reversed Gallagher's demotion for posing for a photo with a casualty.
The review could lead to Gallagher's expulsion from the elite warfare community, according to an administration official directly familiar with the matter.
This review comes days after Trump ignored military advice on November 15 to order Gallagher's rank restored and issue full pardons to two other service members, all of whom had been involved with potential war crimes.

Before the President acted, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and other senior military leaders had warned Trump that his intervention could damage the integrity of the military judicial system, the ability of military leaders to ensure good order and discipline and the confidence of US allies and partners who host US troops.

While Gallagher reportedly has applied for retirement, the official said he has continued to violate procedures.

As recently as Monday, he was seen by other sailors entering an office space he was not permitted to enter because of protective orders against him that prohibit him from coming in to contact with Navy personnel who testified against him.
Three other SEALs who served with Gallagher are also being notified of review boards.

Looks like I missed some Trump pardons along the way....

Here are the 12 pardons or reduced sentences granted by Trump
By Brett Samuels and Brandon Conradis - 05/16/19 02:31 PM EDT

President Trump has drawn criticism for issuing a string of pardons and commutations since taking office, an executive power traditionally used near the end of a presidency.

Sholom Rubashkin
The president’s first commuted sentence was for Sholom Rubashkin, the former CEO of an Iowa kosher meat-processing plant who was serving a 27-year sentence for numerous financial crimes.

Lewis “Scooter” Libby
Libby, who was chief of staff to former Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in the probe into the disclosure of the identity of former covert CIA officer Valerie Plame, who is now running for Congress in New Mexico.
Former President George W. Bush commuted Libby’s prison sentence but never offered him a full pardon.

Jack Johnson
The posthumous pardon of heavyweight boxer Jack Johnson was one of Trump’s less-controversial decisions.

Dinesh D’Souza
Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza, who has written books targeting Clinton and former President Obama, received a pardon last summer after he pleaded guilty in 2014 to making illegal campaign contributions.

Alice Marie Johnson
Alice Marie Johnson, a 62-year-old great-grandmother, had her life sentence commuted after Kim Kardashian West raised her case with the president.
Johnson had been convicted on nonviolent drug and money laundering charges and served her sentence in an Alabama prison. Her release went viral as she thanked Trump and Kardashian West, wife of vocal Trump supporter Kanye West.

Dwight and Steven Hammond
Trump pardoned Dwight Hammond and his son Steve, two Oregon ranchers who were at the center of a standoff with the federal government over land ownership, in July 2018.

Michael Behenna
Trump this month pardoned an ex-Army first lieutenant accused of murdering Ali Mansur Mohamed, an unarmed Iraqi man, during an interrogation in 2008.

Conrad Black
Trump this month also pardoned Conrad Black, a billionaire media mogul convicted in 2007 on charges related to embezzlement and obstruction of justice. In a statement, the White House said Black was “entirely deserving” of his pardon, pointing to high-profile figures who have vouched for his character, including Henry Kissinger and Elton John.

Patrick Nolan
Trump pardoned Nolan, the former Republican leader of the California State Assembly, on the same day he pardoned Black.
While serving as a state legislator, Nolan was charged with accepting illegal campaign donations after being caught in an FBI sting operation. He pleaded guilty, resigned his seat and served 25 months in prison. The White House called Nolan’s decision to plead guilty a “difficult” one he made in order to help his family.

President Donald Trump commuted the 14-year sentence of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, springing the Chicago Democrat from prison over four years early and writing a stunning final chapter to one of the state’s most notorious corruption cases.

The controversial move comes after he granted a full pardon to former 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. Tuesday and more than a year after Trump first revealed he was considering commuting Blagojevich’s sentence.

Trump pardons former New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik
By Kevin Liptak, CNN
Updated 1912 GMT (0312 HKT) February 18, 2020

Image

(CNN) President Donald Trump has pardoned former New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik, he announced at Joint Base Andrews on Tuesday.
Kerik, who once served three years in federal prison for charges including tax fraud and lying to officials, was nominated as homeland security secretary by President George W. Bush but withdrew from consideration due to potential tax violations.
"There are no words to express my appreciation and gratitude to President Trump," Kerik tweeted in a statement.

The President said he relies heavily on the recommendations of others to inform his clemency decisions, adding that Kerik is "a man who had many recommendations from a lot of very good people."
Kerik, a former business partner of Trump ally and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, helped with the case of Navy SEAL chief Edward "Eddie" Gallagher.

DeBartolo pleaded guilty in 1998 to failing to report a felony in a bribery case, which led to former Louisiana Gov. Edwin W. Edwards getting sent to federal prison.

DeBartolo did not serve jail time, but he agreed to pay up to $1 million in fines. He also relinquished ownership of the 49ers to his sister, Denise York
