1:09 p.m. ET: O'Mara asked Doddington if he had a top secret clearance with the National Security Agency, and Doddington confirmed that he does and that he advises the NSA in the area of speech recognition

What made me look at tapes was Reich's report... it appeared "absurd"... and that's exactly what it proved to be... absurd

I agree. He is doing a good job of getting his point made--which is generally emphasizing that these other experts are using the same technology or analysis programs. We can see what his argument is going to be at the end of this. I just hope the defense does a good job of emphasizing that the "methodology" is more than just the analysis program.

Poor George. He is doing his best to look like he is awake.

Knowing what the result will be I can't believe I am wasting my afternoon watching this.

The Judge won't even relax George's monitoring even though he would be sitting right in front of her face.

Next witness is to appear via skype (from Rome)

Nelson will not address say motion in limine.... said such things could be done after jury selection?

2:30 p.m. ET: Judge Nelson has called a recess until the third witness is ready.

2:27 p.m. ET: Doddington has stepped down. The third witness is supposed to testify via Skype teleconference from Rome, but it will be 15 - 20 minutes until he is available.

2:20 p.m. ET: Doddington says he cannot address any questions that refer to the forensic community or how it operates.

I think Nelson allows both Owens and Reich to testify at trial. Her opinion will contain the conclusions that voice biometrics and critical listening (or whatever they term Reich’s method) are recognized and accepted methodologies and that the issue of the credibility / appropriateness of the application of those methodologies and the manner of application to the facts of the case are matters for decision by the jury.

I think MOM should let West handle all of the voice experts. Obviously they should distill Doddington down to the bare essentials. He made one extremely powerful point: Repeatedly copying data to increase the sample size is statistically absurd because it defeats the purpose of having a larger sample size.

“Listener bias” is pretty polite. I would seriously ask Reich on the stand if he has had any evaluation for mental health issues such as schizophrenia which might cause him to hear voices that no one else can hear..

That's because he's not a professional witness. He's just an expert on voice analysis.

Very true... but them's the breaks.

A good witness needs to have both skills.... in fact good presentation can mask shonky content, and bad presentation can detract from good content.


At least State experts give POOR presentation AS WELL AS being shonky.
