23 killed when car hits party-goers in Mozambique

Mozambican media say 23 people were killed when a vehicle veered into a crowd attending a party in the capital of the southern African nation.

Radio Mocambique says the vehicle was traveling at high speed when it hit the crowd early Sunday in Maputo. The radio station describes it as an accident.

A senior police official Paulo Langa says the driver of the vehicle ignored a police order to stop just before hitting the party-goers beside a pedestrian bridge on a main road.

Radio Mocambique quotes Langa as saying the driver died.

An investigation is underway.

Dutch police have shot a man who was shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ as he tried to attack them with an axe.

The 26-year-old man was heard screaming the Arabic for 'God is greatest' while waving the weapon and fatally wounded a police dog.

According to Netherlands news site NU, police entered his apartment and were attacked this afternoon.

During the fighting, officers reportedly tried unsuccessfully to taser the man, who stabbed a police dog.

The man has been taken to hospital in critical condition but NOS reports he is now stable.

Man accused in San Francisco terror plot sentenced to 15 years

SAN FRANCISCO -- A man who told undercover agents that he wanted to carry out a Christmas Day bombing and shooting attack at a popular San Francisco tourist attraction has been handed a 15-year sentence after pleading guilty in a federal case.

Everitt Aaron Jameson pleaded guilty in June to attempting to aid a terrorist organization under a plea deal with federal prosecutors.

Prosecutors say Jameson, a former tow-truck driver from Modesto, California, told the undercover federal agents that he planned to use pipe bombs to channel victims into part of Pier 39 so he could shoot them.

A knife attack which saw two rail passengers and a policeman stabbed by a man shouting 'Allahu Akbar' is being treated as terrorism, Manchester police have said.

Anti-terror officers raided the 25-year-old suspect's home in the Cheetham Hill area of the city today as they confirmed two of the victims will be in hospital 'for some time'.

Neighbours of the property raided say they believe it is home to a Somali couple and four of their five children, who all moved to the UK from the Netherlands around 12 years ago.

Footage of the aftermath of the 'frenzied' attack at Manchester's Victoria Station last night shows a man being pinned down by five police officers, with blood stains on the pavement.

The station where the attack unfolded is next to Manchester Arena, where suicide bomber Salman Abedi killed 22 people on May 22. The area was reopened after a cordon was lifted this morning.

An all female ISIS cell were jailed on Monday for up to 30 years for a failed plot to carry out a car bomb massacre outside Notre Dame Cathedral three years ago.

The five, aged between 22 and 42, were arrested after a car packed with gas cylinders was found parked near the bustling esplanade in front of the cathedral in the heart of the capital on November 4, 2016.

The two main defendants, Ines Madani and Ornella Gilligmann, had doused the car with diesel in the middle of the night and tried but failed to set it alight with a cigarette. They were sentenced to 30 years and 25 years in prison respectively.

The women are believed to have been acting on the orders of Rachid Kassim, a French Islamic State propagandist, also suspected of ordering the grisly murder of a French police couple at their home in June 2016.

The Islamic State group leader who reportedly had a $25 million bounty on his head is believed to have been killed in Syria.

A "high value ISIS target" -- believed to be Islamic State mastermind Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi -- was killed by U.S.-led forces in Idlib, a well-placed military source told Fox News on Saturday night.

A senior Trump administration official later confirmed the source's account.

But at 9:23 p.m. Saturday, President Trump posted a Twitter message hinting at "very big" news.

All four hostages of the man who stormed a Texas synagogue and was believed to be armed with backpacks of explosives have been released after the suspect was shot dead, authorities said.

The terrorist held the hostages, including Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker, trapped inside the Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, for about 11 hours before the hostages were reported free and safe.

Reporters in the area said they heard a loud bang, followed by gunshots, before police stormed the temple and freed the hostages. One of the hostages had been released earlier in the night.
