GROUP STAGE POINTS

UPDATED - 1/7/2019
Image

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Cricket_World_Cup

Note...
With final games ahead in the Group stage, NZ are NOT certain of a place in the final 4.

NZ play England in their last game, 3 July 2019.
A CRITICAL GAME FOR THE ENTIRE TOURNAMENT!

Key games...
2 July 2019 Bangladesh v India
3 July 2019 England v New Zealand
5 July 2019 Bangladesh v Pakistan
6 July 2019 India v Sri Lanka

If NZ win they end with 13 points and a top 4 place. (England with 10 points may be ELIMINATED, if Pakistan or Bangladesh have 11 points))

If NZ lose, then England end with 12 points, and a place, while NZ end with 11 points, but so too may Pakistan, Bangladesh have 11 points, and places will be determined by NRR (net run rate).
(I am assuming India will by then have a win against Bangladesh or Sri lanka (probably both) and so have 13 or 15 points and Australia will have 14 or 16 points)

So either NZ or England (or both) COULD be eliminated in favor of Bangladesh and Pakistan....

(Of course any abandoned game or draw takes the MATH to a more complicated level) :doh

Funny old game... cricket!

I have not been staying up to watch games... but seen a bit of it.

NZ seem to be up to their old tricks... snatching defeat from the jaws of victory!! :doh
TAYLOR.. being congratulated on "personal milestones" while doing it so SLOW that he he is NOT an asset to the team :roll

Australia, on the other hand look good... deserve top place (along with India)

UPDATE - 3/7/2019

India Beat Bangladesh as expected, and join Australia as "qualified", leaving three contenders still vying for the other 2 places :)
Both Qualified, but top place India or Australia deepens on mast games.

NZ are living up to their reputation of being "Chokers" at WC Cricket

Hopeless bunch... faced with a target around 300, requiring batsmen SR around 100%.... they FAILED!!

The NZ team RR was 4.13 (all out in 45 overs)...(England was 6.1 over 50 overs)... and that crap scoring rate COULD see NZ eliminated if Pakistan win their game and match NZ's 11 points... it will come down to best NRR

-------------------------
Despite the Mathematical CHANCE of Pakistan qualifying at the expense of NZ...

It seems VERY unlikely.. :roll

EVEN IF Pakistan beat Bangladesh to match NZ on 11 points.....
Quote:
The Men in Green will have to either make 400 runs and dismiss Bangladesh for 84 runs or make 350 runs and dismiss the tigers for 38 runs to go ahead of New Zealand in the net run rate and qualify for the semi-finals.

If Bangladesh bats first, Pakistan stands no chance of qualifying for the semi-final.

2019 Cricket World Cup knockout stage

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2019_Cric ... kout_stage

Quote:
The knockout stage will see two semi-finals, with the winners of each progressing to the final at Lord's. The first semi-final will be held at Old Trafford in Manchester and the second semi-final will be held at Edgbaston in Birmingham just as they did back in 1999, with all of the knockout games having a reserve day. Australia became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals, after beating England at Lord's.

Image

I do NOT see any mention of a "play off game" for 3rd and 4th place.

1st Semi-final, ICC Cricket World Cup at Manchester, Jul 9 2019
New Zealand V India

https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/803 ... d-cup-2019

New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat

RAIN DELAY!! NZ 211/5 * (46.1/50 ov)

There is a "Reserve Day" for Semifinal games....

Image

LRPL Taylor (not out) 67/85. SR 78.82
I see TAYLOR is still in, batting about a THIRD of the balls available to the entire team... he has a SR of 78.82 :roll
That sort of batting rate would see a team score 236 runs in 50 overs. A LOSING SCORE in a typical modern game.

------------------------
PLAY IS SUSPENDED! There we go, it's all over for tonight, but very much not all over for this crucial semi-final. New Zealand will resume where this innings left off, on 211 for 5 with 23 balls of their innings still to come. It's advantage India... but who knows what might yet pan out. Play will resume at 10.30am

Reserve Day
Weather did not look much better as the day dawned... but looks ok(ish) now and play will RESUME on time at 10:30 AM
RESUME - New Zealand 211/5 * (46.1/50 ov)
Taylor Run out.. what a surprise :roll
74 runs off 90 balls.(SR 82.22) is in effect = 16 balls (almost 3 overs) with no score (dots)

Innings break
New Zealand 239/8 (50 ov) RR 4.78 (Hopeless)

Target for India 240
Required RR 4.8

India lost 3 quick wickets for just 3 runs! :doh
So the two current batsmen going VERY slow. Karthik has faced 18 balls and yet to get off the mark.

New Zealand won by 18 runs :eek

TIE
We will have a Super Over to decide the winner of the 2019 World Cup final.

Super over
  • Weather permitting, the Super Over will commence 10 minutes after the main match. Each team bats one over under the same restrictions as for the final over in a pool match.
  • The team batting second in the main match will bat first in the Super Over.
  • Each side has three nominated batsmen, meaning that the loss of two wickets ends the Super Over.
  • In the event of the scores being level in the Super Over, the first satisfied of the following criteria will determine the winner:
  • If the regular match utilised the Duckworth–Lewis method, criterion 4 immediately applies.
  • The team with the most number of boundaries combined from the main match and the Super Over is the winner.
  • The team with the most number of boundaries from the main match (that is, not including the Super Over) is the winner.
  • A count-back from the final ball of the Super Over shall be conducted. The team with the higher scoring delivery is the winner. Runs scored from illegal deliveries count towards the total for the following legal delivery.

ENG: 15/0 NZ Target is 16

NZ needed 2 off last ball (Guptil facing)... they got 1 and Guptil run out attempting the second.

So scores TIED again at end of Super Over (15 all)
England win because they hit more boundaries in the match.

ENGLAND WIN THE 2019 CRICKET WORLD CUP
