From today on I have 3 Sky Channels all showing live Test Cricket :)

Yesterday only NZ game had started. I was watching happily for first half hour... then Mark Richardson popped up as a commentator, so I had to MUTE!!

I had repressed all memory that Rigor Richardson existed, let alone remembered that he would be commentating... SHAME! :doh

I had also forgotten about Ross Taylor... SHAME again :roll

Day 3

NZ resume with 9 wickets down... A chance that Blundell could make a Century

A lot of Excitement... tension.. drama... WILL Tom Blundell (on debut) get his century?

Rigor Richardson just HAD to point out... THIS could be Blundell's ONLY Test innings/match.
As good as he is as a wicket-keeper-Batsman.... we already have one of those... Temporarily injured.
Wattling is due back next game... it could be a long time before Blundell is selected again.. if ever :eek

ETA
Blundell MADE HIS CENTURY!!

NZ declare
West Indies 134
New Zealand 520/9d (148.4 ov)

New Zealand lead by 386 runs with 1 wicket remaining in the 1st innings

People may have noticed my "obsession" with "over rate" in test matches. It is NOT HARD to get through 90 overs in a day (30 overs/ session)!!!
Yet many test sides piss about and fail to manage that... and not much is done about it. I have suggested that EXTRAS be added to the oppositions score.. at a rate of say 2 or 3 times the average achieved over rate for the day...(of course allowances can be made for GENUINE excuses, such as badgers invading the pitch)
... but who listens to me? Fucking nobody that's who listens to me :wall

I see a small glimmer of hope in the news.....
Quote:
West Indies will be without captain Jason Holder - suspended due to an over-rate violation

Likely Team line-ups
With Southee set to come back in, the seamer most likely to make way seems to be Matt Henry, despite Henry's second innings three-wicket haul in Wellington. As BJ Watling remains unavailable, Tom Blundell will be the home side's wicketkeeper-batsman again.

New Zealand
1 Jeet Raval, 2 Tom Latham, 3 Kane Williamson (capt), 4 Ross Taylor, 5 Henry Nicholls, 6 Mitchell Santner, 7 Colin de Grandhomme, 8 Tom Blundell (wk), 9 Tim Southee, 10 Neil Wagner, 11 Trent Boult

Brathwaite is set to lead the visitors in Holders' stead. Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph or uncapped left-arm quick Raymon Reifer may come into the side to replace him.

West Indies
1 Kraigg Brathwaite (capt) 2 Kieran Powell, 3 Shimron Hetmeyer, 4 Shai Hope, 5 Roston Chase, 6 Sunil Ambris, 7 Shane Dowrich (wk), 8 Raymon Reifer, 9 Kemar Roach, 10 Miguel Cummins, 11 Shannon Gabriel

Pitch and conditions
The match will be played on a surface comprising Patumahoe soil, which means there is likely to be pace, bounce and carry right through the Test. There is some rain forecast for Sunday and Monday, with cloudy patches expected for the remainder of the Test.

I know I am behind of Real Time.

A wicket maiden on Taylor, then two more maiden overs. :roll

Still enjoying the game though it has slowed way down.

I know Taylor is gone, that's what I said. ;)
Trying to make a point on 3 maiden overs in a row, think it just happened again.

My stream feed is about one minute behind real time (or more after several lags).

I didn't watch all day. I see at STUMPS.. only 87 overs bowled??

And... that was after a half hour "overtime" at proper end time only about 80 overs bowled????

I dont think the West Indies got the MEMO... they need to be punished again already :cool

I got a nice surprise today, after mucking with the feed (virus pop-ups) and finally resorting to watching only commentary/stats at http://www.espn.co.uk/cricket/ ...

at the Scores page, they have a button to watch on ESPN today. :)

Image

ETA:
I watched to the end yesterday. At 6:00PM, they were at 81 ovs. :roll

Thx Molly....

Time for some MATH!!

NZ innings was 102.2 overs
When I last looked WI 23.3 with 48.3 scheduled today.

If you add all that up.. at Stumps today we SHOULD have had 174. 2 overs, and there would have been 2 overs "lost" at change of innings.

Which is not too bad (2 days ideally = 180 overs)

The fact remains that WI over rate yesterday was CRIMINAL... heads should roll... just sayin :cool

Thx.

I really love the math part of Cricket when you manspain it to me. ;)

Have a question that is bugging me, I know not to ask, but will anyway.

With de Grandhomme's strike rate yesterday at almost 100%, would that slow down the game and cause WI's over rate to be lower? It's been a while since I have seen a batter with a strike rate so high so don't know if it makes a difference.

ETA:
Thanks for your answer, Rumpole. Now that I've asked and you've explained, I realize one's great SR would be equal to several batters' performance adding up to the same outcome.

de Grandhomme stats 1st innings: 58/63 balls, 5x4's, 4x6's, SR 92.06%

Yeah... you could say that retrieving the ball from boundaries (mainly 6's) takes time.. and wickets falling certainly uses some time... but not much... it's "baked in the cake"... 90 overs is not that hard.. as I have said before, First Class Cricket manage 96.

90 is defined as MINIMUM overs in a day.... they should bowl even MORE if there are no runs being scored, or wickets falling

BTW

I have had cricket on TV... but sound muted.

I often MUTE as soon as Rigor Richardson pops up as commentator... but in addition to that this commentary team includes some WOMAN!!!! Who sounds gossipy and daft (just like Rigor). I guess she is some women's cricket player?? But that is hardly a qualification because women's cricket is a joke (and a travesty) :cool
NZ commentary team is always POOR... not a patch on the Aussies who employ HEROES from the recent past.
NZ TRY.. but the guys they get were not "Stars" (mostly) and they simply lack charisma.

Smithy, and Doulie are good but the rest are less than memorable. (IHHO)

OMG, that is so funny to know it's a woman.
Listening yesterday I thought to myself ... "that poor guy's voice sounds like a girl" .. thought it may be a new announcer.
Well, the woman sounds like a guy to me!!! :lol

I don't watch the pregame or see the breaks where they talk ... that's when I get my stuff done. ;)

Well Molly... MANY NZ commentators could sound like women... to a Texas Gal :)

EG "Scotty Styris" is on at the moment.. along with Doulie and Debbie Hockley (former NZ wimin's cricket captain)

Also have Smithy, Rigor, and Ken Rutherford (he is OKish commentator was a good player)
Craig Cumming He has taken over "The Dilmah Tea Party".... and he is hopeless compared to Doulie who used to do it

We also have Laura McGoldrick (wife of Martin Guptill) often doing crowd interviews comments etc. SHE is OK in that role

ETA
The "Guest" Commentator from West Indies is Ian Bishop... he seems OK as a commentator, (ass the guest commentators usually do) but I cant remember much about him when he was playing.

I just noticed it's a different woman announcer today. This one is girlie-sounding.

Craig Cumming was on the field during the rain delay/Tea Break. They didn't have a tea party show so he gave the Dilmah Tea gift bag to two guys who fly the drone that get the great overhead shots.

Yeah?

Then the "Girl" you heard yesterday must have been Scott Styris :)
