LAS VEGAS
The man facing charges for attempting to grab a police officer's gun so he could allegedly shoot candidate Donald Trump is in the United States illegally.

He had overstayed his visa from the United Kingdom.

That information came out during his arraignment at U.S. District Court Monday afternoon.

Michael Sandford, 20, is charged with an act of violence on restricted grounds. He was arrested Saturday during Trump's campaign rally. Police said he grabbed the handle of an officer's gun in an attempt to remove it.

According to the complaint, Sandford told police, he drove from California to Las Vegas to kill Trump.

During the arraignment, it was also learned that Sandford had been living in his car and that he has Asperger syndrome, a form of autism.

Sandford has not been diagnosed with a mental illness but has tried to commit suicide in the past.

He doesn't have a criminal record.

The judge ordered him to remain in custody.

His next court date is a preliminary hearing set for July 5.

There is NOT ONE mugshot of him anywhere. :roll

Looking at latest news articles, I want "last hour" up-to-date, but they are all in a foreign language at this time.

THX for making the thread. Years of following through ... to the trial. ;)

Telegraph Reporters
7 July 2016

A British man has pleaded not guilty to attempting to grab a police officer's gun in a bid to kill Donald Trump.

Michael Sandford, 20, allegedly tried to snatch the weapon during a rally at Treasure Island casino in Las Vegas on June 18.

He is said to have told police he had travelled to the Nevada city to kill Mr Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for the US presidential election, according to court documents.

Sandford, dressed in a yellow prison uniform and wearing leg irons, appeared at a federal court in Las Vegas.

He pleaded not guilty to a charge of disrupting government business and official functions and two charges of being an illegal alien in possession of a gun.

Judge rules Trump protester who rushed stage violated bond
By DAN SEWELL
Jul. 6, 2016 4:50 PM EDT

CINCINNATI (AP) — A federal judge ruled Wednesday that a college student awaiting trial on a charge he tried to rush the stage at a Donald Trump rally violated conditions of his bond and would be placed on electronic home detention.

Judge Sharon Ovington's ruling came just hours after Wright State University student Thomas DiMassimo asked permission to go to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention.

She said he admitted violating conditions she set in March allowing him to be free under his own recognizance. It wasn't clear exactly what those conditions were. She ordered him to be turned over to U.S. marshals pending arrangements for home detention, including installation of a landline phone.

Earlier in the day, the 22-year-old DiMassimo filed a motion asking Ovington to approve his leaving the federal southern district of Ohio to go to Cleveland for the convention featuring Trump as the GOP's presumptive presidential nominee. His motion included a sworn statement that he would abide by federal and local laws while at the July 18-21 convention.

Okay, have noted the trial date.

I often wonder about the kid who threw the egg at Melania in Milwaukee. He's 16 so no name to search. Nothing in news since April. :40

Mother pleads to visit son accused of trying to assassinate Donald Trump
By The Associated Press | The Guardian | August 12, 2016

A British mother is asking a US judge to let her visit her son, who is jailed in Nevada after what authorities say was an attempt to shoot Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump at a Las Vegas campaign rally.

Attorneys representing Michael Steven Sandford, 20, said he has “serious psychological problems” and has been on suicide watch in federal custody at a facility about 50 miles west of Las Vegas.
[...]
His current attorneys, deputy federal public defenders Rene Valladares and Brenda Weksler, said in documents filed on Wednesday that Sandford is “in a very vulnerable mental state”, and that a psychiatrist in Las Vegas determined he “would greatly benefit from the ability to meet with his mother in person”.

US district judge James Mahan in Las Vegas postponed Sandford’s trial to 3 October. It had been set to begin 22 August.

Instead, the judge scheduled a 23 August hearing on Lynne Sandford’s request.

Attorney Saimo Chahal in London has said she hopes to reach a plea bargain that would send Michael Sandford back to Britain rather than stand trial in the US.

British man could get two years in jail after pleading guilty to trying to grab a police officer's gun and shoot Donald Trump

  • Michael Steven Sandford, 20, grabbed officer's gun at Trump rally in June
  • Sandford then told officers he planned to kill him and would later try again
  • Admitted being illegal alien with a firearm and disrupting public function
  • Will get up to 27 months, but could have got 20 years if convicted at trial

By James Dunn For Mailonline
Published: 07:19 +10:00, 14 September 2016 | Updated: 16:33 +10:00, 14 September 2016

The British man who grabbed a police officer's gun at a Donald Trump rally has pleaded guilty to federal charges that could see him jailed for two years in the US.

Michael Steven Sandford pleaded guilty to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting an official function, which could have carried a 20-year sentence if he was convicted at trial.

'I tried to take a gun from a policeman to shoot someone with, and I'm pleading guilty,' Sandford told the judge at the US District Court in Las Vegas.

Sandford, 20, was arrested on June 18 after grabbing for the gun in a 1.500-seat venue at Treasure Island hotel-casino, Las Vegas. He did not get the gun, and no shots were fired before he was arrested.

Sanford entered his pleas after his mother, Lynne Sandford, and a lawyer arrived from London and met with him in custody last week.

Sentencing guidelines call for 18 to 27 months in prison for the offenses, after credit for time served, accepting responsibility for the crime and avoiding trial, which had been set to start October 3. Under the plea deal, Sandford won't be able to appeal.

Briton jailed over Trump death plot
BBC

A British man has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison over his attempt to grab a gun in a bid to kill Donald Trump.

Michael Sandford, 20, pleaded guilty in September to being an illegal alien in possession of a firearm and disrupting an official function.

He was accused of grabbing a policeman's gun at a rally in Las Vegas in order to shoot at the candidate.

His mother says "he is remorseful over what he did".

Sandford, of Dorking, Surrey, had faced up to 10 years in prison over the alleged assassination plot.

The court heard that he could be eligible for release in four months' time, at which point he will be deported to the UK.

The defence team said their client is autistic and suffers seizures and obsession-compulsion anxiety.

Moment Michael Sandford tried to grab officer's gun at Donald Trump rally captured on police body camera
By Ronke Phillips | ITV News | 10 May 2017 at 5:02pm

The moment Michael Sandford emerged from the crowd at the rally and tried to grab an officer's gun has been captured on a police body camera.

Michael is seen walking up to an officer before he asks about getting an autograph from Donald Trump - who at the time was still on the campaign trail.

But when the officer leaned forward to tell Michael he would have to wait until the Presidential hopeful finished speaking, the 20-year-old from Dorking tried to grab his gun, but it got caught in the holster.

Within seconds another two policemen were on the scene and Michael Sandford was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed.
