Jodi Arias trial date put aside due to prosecutor's conflicting trial
Tue Feb 11, 2014 6:16 PM

The March trial date set for convicted killer Jodi Arias has been put aside because of a conflict prosecutor Juan Martinez has with another potential death-penalty trial.

Martinez is supposed to begin trial May 12 for Bryan Hulsey, 40, who is charged with the 2007 murder of Glendale Police officer Anthony Holly. The Hulsey trial has been repeatedly postponed.

In a hearing Tuesday at Maricopa County Superior Court, Presiding Criminal Judge Joseph Welty weighed priorities in the two cases.

I wonder where she is being housed whilst awaiting this trial. She would only be in the Arizona womens' prison on death row if, in fact, she had been given that sentence, so perhaps she's simply housed in Arizona State Prison amongst the general female populus - surely not, surely if anyone knows, she's in solitary still.

Hi Wroughead

I think it was mentioned that she was moved to "prison" as opposed to jail awaiting trial.

I think you are correct.... she will most likely be still in "solitary" But I don't know that for a fact.

I don't know where she is at now but she was at Maricopa co jail before she went "radio silent". I know that the sheriff (Joe Arapella (SP)) came under fire for allowing her so much "freedom" so perhaps they did move her.

i think that even if it was just to save face for the powers that be at Maricopa she's been moved to an ordinary jail.

Prosecutors will again try to convince a jury to sentence Jodi Arias to death in a second penalty phase that will begin in September.

During a hearing Monday, which Arias did not attend, a judge set the new trial date with jury selection to begin Sept. 8.

The 33-year-old former waitress was convicted of first-degree murder in May for the 2008 killing of her one-time boyfriend in Arizona, but jurors couldn't reach a decision on a sentence.

Under Arizona law, while her murder conviction stands, prosecutors have the option of putting on a second penalty phase with a new jury in an effort to secure a death sentence.

If the second panel fails to reach a unanimous decision, the death penalty will be removed from consideration. The judge then would sentence Arias to spend her entire life behind bars or to be eligible for release after 25 years.

I'll watch it too, of course, that is if they allow the cameras in this time.

I think we will have to rely on blogs, not my fav thing at all, it's a bugger right enough. I hope she gets found guilty, and gets the death sentence, meaning in Arizona she'll still be in prison when she's 80.

I've given a lot of thought over the months to this case. I'm not sure if she did actually plan this murder. I think she definitely planned to do all these journeys with the intention of seeing Travis Alexander again, and once at his home something happened that flipped her over the edge. Another thing I've thought about is how it would appear he used her, tried to finish with her, yet kept calling or texting her, in other words I think when he wanted sex she was his first port of call.

I don't think for a second as a future mormon wife, he ever had any serious thoughts in that direction with her, but to her maybe his actions were perceived as such.

The guy did not deserve the death he got there is absolutely no doubt about it, but I do think there would appear to have been a certain amount of provocation from him which unleashed 'the other side' of Jodi Arias. I still think she should have received the death sentence, and don't quite understand how the jury had difficulty in deciding the sentencing, and now we have to have a retrial. But, at the end of the day the decision reached by the jury has to be respected, whether we agree or disagree with it.

Interesting read on this article.

Arias judge restricts camera coverage of trial
by The Associated Press
Posted on May 27, 2014 at 12:02 PM

PHOENIX (AP) -- The judge in Jodi Arias' murder trial has issued restrictions on audio and video coverage of her upcoming second penalty phase.

In a Tuesday ruling, Judge Sherry Stephens writes that video coverage will be allowed, but the footage can't be used until after the verdict. However, Stephens also ruled that any live broadcast must have a 15-minute delay.

Arias was convicted of murder last year in the 2008 killing of her lover, but jurors couldn't reach a decision on a sentence. A second penalty phase is set for September as prosecutors again seek a death sentence.

Messages left for attorneys and the judge seeking clarification on the ruling were not immediately returned.

Media lawyers had argued for the same live TV coverage that occurred during Arias' first trial.

Hmmm.... Thought we already KNEW there would be no live broadcast?

Looks like there CAN be audio at least... delayed 15 minutes.

It does not seem clear what the ruling means as far as tweets... live blogs... even still photos.

There was CONFUSION during parts of the Pistorius trial. It is not possible to block all live reporting with the advent of phone cameras and twitter etc.

I have followed trials before with no live video.... it is still OK following tweets etc. The Pistorius trial is mostly no video or photos of the witnesses and that has been OK (ish) :)

I'm looking forward to this phase, whether it's live broadcasts or not - I prefer not to bother with tweets.
