Caylee Anthony: Why she won't be forgotten
By Hal Boedeker, Staff writer
9:39 a.m. EST, August 9, 2012

Today would have been Caylee Anthony's 7th birthday.

People often talk about what her story represents, because in death, she became a symbol.

She was just 2 years old, a child who wasn't reported missing for 31 days and whose body wasn't found for six months.

Her mother's attorney later said Caylee was a drowning victim. But no drowning victim should be discarded.

I hear from many readers who want justice for Caylee. As long as she's not forgotten, that will be a form of justice.

The adults around the child repeatedly failed her, but they later collected large sums of money off her memory. Her mother got $200,000 from ABC News. Her grandparents received $600,000 from the "Dr. Phil" show.

As long as people are outraged about those facts, Caylee won't be forgotten.

I doubt that we'll ever know for sure what really happened to Caylee. The story kept changing from those closest to her.

Oh, well, what happened to her should never happen to another child. For that reason, she won't be forgotten.
