Do the various color combos have any significance? IG the five pointed star remains the same as old flag ...same grouping, red w white trim. Royal vs navy blue? Since I only get one vote |

The stars in both NZ and Australian flag represent "The Southern Cross" constellation (navigation reference in Southern Hemisphere) Australian flag includes seven-pointed star symbolizing the Federation of Australia (States) Colors I guess hark back to the Union Jack.. flag of our Colonial Founders |

I read about this red peak flag design, but don't quite understand why it's in the news. |

Hi Mal Rumpole, I read about this from a link in my start page (Excite dot com) under international news. It was in the NZ Herald. This article makes more sense: Red Peak: New Zealanders rally behind 'fifth' flag design BBC | September 7, 2015 Nearly 30,000 people have signed a petition demanding the New Zealand government allow a fifth entry in the contest for a new national flag. Red Peak, designed by Wellington resident Aaron Dustin, was on the long list but did not make the final four. The finalists were revealed to widespread disdain last week, with many saying said they were too boring, too corporate or unrepresentative. But PM John Key has already said no to adding Red Peak into the contest. Mr Dustin has made the case that his flag design is simple and meaningful. THX Dakota.... I see it all now... "Mr Dustin" is what we in the Antipodes call a "WANKER" A friggin poser... spare me the fucking allusions to Maori creation myths Quote: Mr Dustin has made the case that his flag design is simple and meaningful. He says on his blog it uses the shape of traditional weaving patterns, and "suggests a landscape of alpine ranges, red earth, and black sky", while referencing the Maori creation myth of Ranginui and Papatuanuku, also known as Rangi and Papa. Good ole John Key Quote: But PM John Key has already said no to adding Red Peak into the contest. John Key is not only PM.. but he is my local area MP.. I didn't vote for him to put up with CRAP from wankers... Gnomesayin? PS Anybody called "Aaron" is doomed to grow up to be a wanker. His parents must have been wankers too to have named him Aaron |

I don't know about all that. I'll take your word for it, Rumpy. I do like the simplicity and colors (red, white and blue!) of it though. It fit's in with flags designed 1 hundred years ago, IMO. |

Crafty Cow!! In that case.... The extra vote that I did as "Gregs Mom" to replace lost Dakota vote, I will now move from choice #4 to choice #2 (At least I have figured out HOW I could have corrected Mal's original vote) |

Flag referendum: Red Peak design to be added as fifth option - John Key 2:12 PM Wednesday Sep 23, 2015 The Red Peak flag will be added as a fifth option in the flag referendum, Prime Minister John Key has confirmed. The Government has agreed to pick-up legislation that was put forward by the Green Party this afternoon, which means the Red Peak design will join the four flag alternatives already selected. "The whole way through I have said my preference is to stick with the process that the officials gave us - accept the four [designs already selected. "I said I was prepared to go outside of that but I just didn't want people playing games. The Greens have been very, very straight - they have said, here is a straight bill. "In the end, I'm not wanting to be the one that stands in the way of people having some choice." ...more at link http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/artic ... d=11517757 |
