Live: Royal baby watch news as Prince William and Kate Middleton set to become parents
20 Jul 2013 16:42

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting their first child in July - but when will it arrive?

After the arrival of the Mirror royal baby last week when our royal correspondent Victoria Murphy gave birth on July 13 - thought to be Kate's due date - there is another batch of royal babies.

Sort of. They're actually kittens (as you can see). The cute little feline bundles of joy are in the care of Battersea Dogs and Cats home after being abandoned in a cardboard box in a rubbish bin this week.

And when it came to thinking up seven names, the rescue centre turned to the bookies' favourites for the royal baby on July 17.

So meet Alexandra (6-4), Victoria (9-1), Charlotte (6-1), Elizabeth (10-1), Grace (25-1), James (6-1) and George (11-2).

Wonder how they'd get on with Kate's dog Lupo? It might not be the best time to introduce them given he apparently had a run-in with a gate last night.

Hopefully, Duchess Kate will never "perish in a tragic car accident, caused by the paparazzi".

Hi KJ :hug

I am more interested in the kittens..... it was the kitten pic that inspired me to start the thread... not the alleged Royal Baby.

Reaction from the Prince of Wales

A statement now from the Prince of Wales:
Both my wife and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild. It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.

Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.

The world has seen the royal baby for the first time as the future king left hospital with his ecstatic parents yesterday evening, who revealed they had not yet chosen him a name.

Prince William and Kate waved and smiled broadly to the waiting cameras as they held their prince on the steps of the private Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in London, 26 hours after he was delivered, weighing 8lbs 6oz.

Speaking for the first time since giving birth, an obviously moved Duchess of Cambridge said: 'It's been very emotional. Any parent will know what this feeling is like.'

As they left St Mary's carefully cradling their precious child, the Duke of Cambridge followed the steps his parents Charles and Diana took with him 31 years ago, when he was born there on June 21, 1982.
