The name George - chosen for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's baby son - is synonymous with British kings.

It has come to represent the continuity of the monarchy and remained the bookmakers' favourite in the name-guessing stakes from the moment Kate's pregnancy was announced.

Six King Georges have worn the crown throughout history since the German-born George I, the first Hanoverian king of Great Britain, acceded to the throne in 1714.

The couple are understood to have had a few ideas for names in mind but it took a few days for them to finally confirm which one was right for their son.

It was William and Kate's decision what to call their firstborn and all three names picked were chosen because they liked them.

The Queen saw her great-grandson for the first time this morning when she visited the Duke and Duchess at their home at Kensington Palace and would have been told by the couple of their choice.

I am disappointed. I was hoping the baby would be named James connecting with the Stuart line of Diane. Gotta admit though that calling him "George" is a kick in the a^^ for the Traybots.

I agree, Maltese Mama. There's nothing like a new baby. Nothing in the world. :64

A Prince About Nothing: Royal Couple Smuggles Seinfeld References Into the Royal Heir's Name

First of all, via Twitchy and Brit Hume, the UK Sun goes bananas over the royal birth, while the tabloid Private Eye is less overwhelmed.

Via @andylevy, but corrected by me because I'm awesome, the young prince's name seems to be a tribute to the character George Costanza on Seinfeld.

The kid's name is -- and everything I'm about to say is true -- "George Alexander Louis."

Okay, so. George, from George Costanza. Alexander, from Jason Alexander, the man who plays him.

And Louis? Well, George Costanza's middle name is actually Louis. And that's not even just some weird behind-the-scenes factoid you get from a series bible or something; that was mentioned on the show multiple times.

What does this mean?

It means he'll be the best king ever.

I don't remember ever hearing George's middle name.

How fun though. Wonder if the Royals will celebrate Festivus and perform feats of strength? :Gslap

Royal Family Releases New Photos of Prince George, Princess Charlotte

ABC News | GOOD MORNING AMERICA
By CAROLYN DURAND | June 6, 2015

The little prince who could one day be king is taking on a bigger role right now, learning to be a big brother, and judging from a new photo released today, Prince George clearly likes it.

In the photo, he lovingly holds his 1 month old baby sister Princess Charlotte in his arms and kissing her at the couple's Norfolk country home, Anmer Hall.

Princess Charlotte off for her first day at nursery school
By AP | Stuff.co.nz | January 9, 2018

Kensington Palace has released images of Princess Charlotte as she begins her first day at nursery school.

The 2-year-old is shown on the steps of the palace in one photo and standing holding onto a rail in another. The images were taken by her mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, before Charlotte went to the nearby Willcocks Nursery School in London.

Charlotte will be a full-time pupil at the school. It charges just over NZ$5670 for those who attend mornings Monday to Friday.
