I hate to admit it, mbtb, but I kind of feel the same way. MJ, imo, pretty much did it to himself.

I'm not suggesting the doc shouldn't have been charged or anything that extreme, of course. The doc shouldn't have gone along with what MJ wanted. Period. But I believe MJ would have found some other narcotic even if every U.S. doc had said no.

There are countries that allow the sale of all sorts of things, tested/safe or not; no FDA approval required. There are also black markets, illegal drug dealing, etc. And MJ certainly had the money to buy whatever he wanted. So, imo, he would have bought it another way, if no doc would get it for him.

AEG not liable in Michael Jackson's death, jury finds

Los Angeles (CNN) -- A Los Angeles jury decided Wednesday that AEG Live hired Dr. Conrad Murray, but also concluded that the concert promoter was not liable for Michael Jackson's drug overdose death.
The jury decided that Murray was competent, so even though AEG Live hired him, it was not liable for Jackson's death and didn't owe the Jackson family millions of dollars in compensation.

Singer Susan Boyle reveals she has Asperger's syndrome: paper

(Reuters) - Scottish singer Susan Boyle says she has a form of autism known as Asperger's syndrome, a diagnosis she says came as a relief after years of believing she had brain damage.

Boyle, 52, told the Observer newspaper in an interview published Saturday she had sought help from a Scottish specialist a year ago believing her childhood diagnosis of brain damage was incorrect.

‘Duck Dynasty’ will return–with Robertson
12/27/13 05:45 PM—Updated 12/27/13 06:26 PM
By msnbc staff

Duck Dynasty’ patriarch Phil Robertson will be back on the reality show. A&E lifted his suspension–he’d been placed on “indefinite” hiatus after making comments about race and homosexuality to GQ magazine. The show will resume filming in the spring. Robertson didn’t miss any filming.

The Captain and Tennille are getting a divorce

Image

It looks like love won't keep them together after all.

The Captain and Tennille, the Grammy Award-winning husband-and-wife pop duo best known for the 1975 hit "Love Will Keep Us Together," are divorcing after nearly 39 years of marriage, an Arizona court clerk confirmed Wednesday.

Daryl Dragon, 71, and Cathryn Antoinette "Toni" Tennille, 73, filed the papers in Prescott, Ariz., on Jan. 16, the court clerk said.

Unfortunate....I read that he has something similar to Parkinson's disease, and is no longer able to accompany her on keyboard. Hopefully, that isn't the reason she filed - he claims to have no idea as to the reason,
Mike

Sounds like a possibility....

Divorcing when in one's seventies seems a bit strange really. After 40 years..... I would like to think that if one's partner was suffering a debilitating disease you would be keen to ensure they were at least comfortable and well looked after. Perhaps placed in some facility rather than try and cope personally at home... a place where the person would get better care, but remain comitted to at least "seeing them through" the decline.
Maybe (just speculation) financial situation is a factor.... but I imagine that could be sorted out with contracts and lawyers without necessarily "getting a divorce"?
Always sad to see "good love go bad" :(

Watch Justin Bieber in court: Shamed star appears before Miami judge as his bail is set at $2,500
Jan 23, 2014 19:00

Image

A police spokesperson confirmed Bieber was taken to Miami-Dade jail, where he was fingerprinted and had his mugshot taken.

The singer told cops he had taken anti-depressants, drank a beer and was smoking marijuana all day.

Bieber was incoherent, had his hands in his pockets, was driving without a valid license and resisted arrest without violence, Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinez told the Miami Herald.

The 19-year-old's entourage had reportedly used their cars to block traffic on Pine Tree Drive at 26th Street, a residential area, at 4:30am to create a drag strip for the young singer.

R 'n' B singer Khalil Sharief, the driver of a red Ferrari involved in the race, was also arrested and his bail was set at $1,000.

Sad to hear :(

I do remember him and his songs, several made popular by other performers.
Beyond that, I can't say I knew too much about him.
(He wrote some nice songs... shame about his politics...)

"Guantanamera" (Spanish: "from Guantánamo [feminine]", thus "woman from Guantánamo") is perhaps the best known Cuban song and that country's most noted patriotic song. In 1966, a version by American vocal group The Sandpipers, based on an arrangement by Pete Seeger, became an international hit.

Philip Seymour Hoffman, Actor of Depth, Dies at 46
By BRUCE WEBERFEB. 2, 2014

Image

Philip Seymour Hoffman, perhaps the most ambitious and widely admired American actor of his generation, who gave three-dimensional nuance to a wide range of sidekicks, villains and leading men on screen and embraced some of the theater’s most burdensome roles on Broadway, died on Sunday at an apartment in Greenwich Village he was renting as an office. He was 46.

The death, from an apparent drug overdose, was confirmed by the police. Mr. Hoffman was found in the apartment by a friend who had become concerned after being unable to reach him. Investigators found a syringe in his arm and, nearby, an envelope containing what appeared to be heroin.
