Bob Hoskins best known to me for his role in BBC TV series "Pennies from Heaven"

I was and am a huge fan. That was a unique piece of Drama and Music. A quantum leap in TV Drama I think, something that used the medium in a unique way

Pennies From Heaven is a 1978 BBC musical drama serial written by Dennis Potter.

It was my first experience of Dennis Potter's writing.... he went on to write other great TV Drama before his death (for example "The Singing Detective")

It also awakened my love of music from the 1930's etc.

There was a US film version starring starring Steve Martin, but it was not as good (did not have the impact on me) as the original TV series.

Oh how sad. I really enjoyed his films. I recently saw him in the excellent 2010 film "Made in Dagenham".
