Tributes begin to pour in for the actress, singer and dancer who passed away surrounded by her family at her California home

Many people are focusing their praise on Temple's career as a US ambassador to Ghana and Czechoslovakia.

ITV News' Alastair Stewart has tweeted drawing comparisons with a certain other well-known child star.

"In mourning Shirley Temple, the Disney child-star,remember,too,the unlikely diplomat: Ghana, UN & Czechoslovakia. Hope, yet, for Mylie Cyrus?"

I can't say I was a "fan" of Shirley... but I was a FAN of the golden era of Hollywood generally... Shirley Temple included :(

RIP Shirley. She brought a lot of fun to movie goers during a bad time.

When I was a kid (eons ago) I wanted curls like hers. My poor mom tried but you can't do the impossible. In my next life I will have a beautiful head of hair. Haha

I loved when Shirley and Bojangles danced up the stairs.

And now I'm seeing articles that have put emphasis on the racism in the burlesk kiddie movies she made.

My mom loved Shirley Temple. I saw a lot of her movies when I was growing up. The dance with Bojangles was my favorite.
