Fox News Pundit Charles Krauthammer Dead At 68
The conservative Washington Post columnist and Fox News pundit had cancer.
By Lydia O’Connor, 06/21/2018 06:10 pm ET

Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist Charles Krauthammer has died, The Washington Post confirmed Thursday. He was 68.

The announcement came nearly two weeks after the columnist and Fox News personality revealed in a Washington Post column that he only had weeks left to live. For most of the last year, he wrote, he’d been recovering from surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his abdomen. Though the procedure was initially thought to be successful, the cancer returned and began spreading rapidly.

“This is the final verdict,” he wrote. “My fight is over.”

I was impressed with Krauthhammers intellect... his wit.. his sense of humor. Like many I was unaware of his physical handicap initially, but when I found out it made his performance even more impressive, if anything. And having learned that he was almost totally paralyzed, I was further impressed with the fact that he strived to do so much himself, rather than rely on assistants. He even drove himself from place to place. :)

Having said all that... I think he "lost the plot" somewhat when it came to TRUMP... which put me off him a bit from the time of the Primary campaigns and run for President. Still..... even though I disagree with him on Trump I still found his opinions on most things to be well argued.

Sad to see him go :(

Donald Trump is to honor actor Jon Voight with a prestigious medal, after the Oscar-winner hailed him as 'the greatest president of this century'.

Voight, 80, is one of a group of artists and philanthropists being honored by the president for their contributions to the arts or the humanities.

He will receive the National Medal of Arts, and be one of the first recipients of prestigious national medals since Trump took office.

Voight is one of Trump´s few vocal Hollywood backers, and in August hailed him as 'the greatest president of this century.'

The actor - who is Angelina Jolie's father - posted a clip online of himself speaking to a camera phone, tearing into the 'radical left' and their 'hate...like a venom'.

The president responded to the video, tweeting: 'Thank you Jon, working hard!'

Voight doubled down in September, calling the impeachment effort against President Trump a 'a war against truths and the highest noble man who has defended our country'.

Clive James death: Acclaimed author, TV host and poet dies aged 80

The writer and broadcaster was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010

Roisin O'Connor

Poet, critic and broadcaster Clive James has died aged 80, his agent has announced.

The Australian writer, who had lived and worked in the UK since 1961, died at his home in Cambridge on Sunday 24 November. A private funeral attended by family and close friends took place in the chapel at Pembroke College in Cambridge today (27 November).

Paul Darrow obituary
(1941-2019)
Actor who brought an air of simmering danger to the role of Avon in the TV series Blake’s 7

Image

The actor Paul Darrow, who has died aged 78, will be best remembered as the sardonic antihero Kerr Avon in all four series of Blake’s 7 (1978-81), the BBC TV science fiction show, created by Terry Nation, about rebellious outlaws fighting a cruel Federation.

When Gareth Thomas, playing Roj Blake, left after two years, Avon became the main character. He was a terse, cold pragmatist with a fine line in purred cynicism, and beneath his steely eyes and inscrutable visage Darrow imbued the character with a quick, calculating intelligence and simmering danger. He considered Avon to be a cross between Steve McQueen and Elvis Presley, with a touch of Richard Nixon thrown in. It was a captivating performance, never dull, and Darrow’s smouldering good looks and gift for icy put-downs made Avon hugely popular with viewers and a bona fide science fiction icon.

He died on the morning of 3 June 2019 at the age of 78. The 2019 remake of MediEvil, which featured Darrow as the voice of the main antagonist Zarok, was dedicated to his memory.

Terry Jones: Monty Python stars pay tribute to comedy great

Image
Jones (left) with fellow Monty Python stars Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam
and Michael Palin

Monty Python stars have led the tributes to their co-star Terry Jones, who has died at the age of 77.

The Welsh actor and writer played a variety of characters in the iconic comedy group's Flying Circus TV series, and directed several of their films.

He died on Tuesday, four years after contracting a rare form of dementia known as FTD.

David Walliams and Simon Pegg were among other comedians who remembered him.

Fellow Python star Sir Michael Palin described Jones as "one of the funniest writer-performers of his generation".

In a tweet, John Cleese said he was "a man of so many talents and such endless enthusiasm".

Eric Idle, another member of the highly influential comedy troupe, recalled the "many laughs [and] moments of total hilarity" they shared.

"It's too sad if you knew him, but if you didn't you will always smile at the many wonderfully funny moments he gave us," he went on.

Terry Gilliam, with whom Jones directed the group's film The Holy Grail in 1975, described his fellow Python as a "brilliant, constantly questioning, iconoclastic, righteously argumentative and angry but outrageously funny and generous and kind human being".

"One could never hope for a better friend," he said.

British great Stirling Moss dies at 90 after long illness

Image

Stirling Moss, the British racing driver who ranked as an all-time Formula One great despite never winning the world championship, has died at the age of 90 after a long illness.

"He died as he lived, looking wonderful," his wife Susie told the Daily Mail newspaper.

"He simply tired in the end and he just closed his beautiful eyes and that was that."

A team mate at Mercedes to Argentine five-times world champion Juan Manuel Fangio, the Briton survived one of the deadliest eras of motorsport with 16 grand prix wins in the 1950s and early 1960s.

Four times a championship runner-up, and also third overall on three occasions, no other driver has won as many races without taking the title.
