Update on story above.
The woman killed at the same time as the officer was Holt's estranged ex-wife who was two months pregnant.
Holt was found hours later at 10:30AM on a bridge in NOLA threatening to jump.
After seven hours of negotiations with police, Holt shot himself once in the stomach after almost surrendering.
He was transported to a hospital where he later died.

Oh Lord. If this isn't the most backwoods, goonish, low-class family, IDK what is. The teen girl is the father's stepdaughter. He has two younger sons; all three in foster care. When the girl testifies, she will have a "comfort dog" with her on the stand; it's been with her since she was rescued. Her mother left her with the family. I am not watching the trial, it will be a freak show, but want to know the verdict. Jury was selected today.

Father and son accused of rape want 'only law book that matters' at trial: The Bible
By Kristine Guerra, WaPo | The Kansas City Star | January 23, 2017

Image

A father and son accused of raping a teenage girl over a three-year period and keeping her shackled in a basement have made it clear that they don't have faith in the law or in the people who practice it.

When they face an Ohio jury as they defend themselves against criminal charges that carry long prison sentences, they will rely on one book: The Bible.

Timothy Ciboro and his son, Esten Ciboro, both of Toledo, are each charged with multiple counts of rape. The trial is scheduled to start this week, months after the girl, who is Timothy Ciboro's stepdaughter, managed to unshackle herself and escape while her alleged abusers were gone, authorities said.

$500K bond for man accused in death of Cleveland officer David Fahey
By WKYC.com | January 26, 2017

Image

CLEVELAND -- The man accused of killing Cleveland officer David Fahey in a hit-and-run accident made his first court appearance Thursday morning.

At the brief hearing, bond was set at $500,000 for 44-year-old Israel Alvarez who is being held on charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and felony hit-skip.

Alvarez covered his face for most of the court proceeding in which it was revealed he has five children that he supports -- including a 10-day-old baby. The other children are ages 3, 16, 18 and 22.

It was also discussed that he has been working for five years doing construction with the local 310 labor union before previous non-related offenses were listed.

The accusations are connected to early Tuesday morning when officer Fahey was struck by a Toyota Camry while assisting at the scene of a crash on I-90 West near Warren Road.

Alvarez was arrested hours later in Lorain.

Services for officer Fahey will be held Friday and Saturday. He was 39 years old.

Five Illegal Aliens Arrested After Shooting Woman 13 Times, Say Police
By Bob Price, John Binder | Breitbart Texas | January 25, 2017

Police in George, Washington State, have arrested five illegal aliens wanted in connection with the murder of a woman allegedly shot 13 times.
[...]
Witnesses told police Sundberg was arguing with Rodriguez on the evening of December 21. The report does not disclose what the argument was about. Shortly after the argument, Sundberg was kidnapped and taken to the location where her body was eventually discovered.
[...]
The five arrested were seen leaving the RV park where the argument took place. Sundberg’s hands were allegedly being held behind her back by Varona, FiberOne reported.

The suspects and the material witnesses drove her to a rest area alongside a highway, according to the police report. Varona was seen kicking the back of one of her legs, forcing her to the ground. Rodriguez then allegedly shot her at least 13 times in the head.

After shooting the woman, Mendez Villenueva reportedly wrote a note in Spanish on a piece of carboard and placed it on her back. He secured the message in place by stabbing it into her back with a knife, the report obtained by FiberOne revealed.

The group then fled the scene, traveling to a convenience store where they purchased some beer.

Scott Van Lanken had served the citizens of La Crosse, Wisconsin as a police officer from 1978-1987. In 1988 he left law enforcement and became a Pastor and served in Ohio, Arizona and Colorado over a 26-year period. His bride of 35 years, Shellie, said Scott had taken a break from pastoring to earn money for her and their twin adult daughters, one of whom is disabled.

Man accused of killing Colorado transit officer reportedly self-described 'radical Muslim'
By FOX News | February 2, 2017

Undated photo of Cummings
(Denver Police Department)

Investigators in Colorado said Wednesday the murder of a transit officer was a targeted attack.

Sources told Fox 31 Denver that Joshua Cummings, who is accused of killing Scott Van Lanken in front of two women, describes himself as a “radical Muslim.” Law enforcement sources also told the station that police found jihadist materials inside a backpack at the time of his arrest.

The 37-year-old Cummings was arrested Tuesday night after the shooting near Union Station. Security camera footage helped track down the man.

Van Lanken, of Loveland, was armed and wearing a dark blue uniform similar to those worn by police at the time of his death. In case he was targeted because he was believed to be a police officer, police Chief Robert White said officers have been warned to remain vigilant.

According to police, Von Lanken was trying to help two women who were afraid they had missed the last light rail train when one of them said she saw a man with a swollen face and "weird looking eyes" walk up to the officer and say something to the effect of "Do what you are told" before she heard a gunshot. He ran away but police found Cummings hiding on the patio of a nearby loft apartment building with a 9mm handgun.

Cummings, who has ties to a variety of cities in Texas, most recently Austin, was charged with a misdemeanor over five years ago out of state, police Commander Barb Archer said. It's not clear if he has a lawyer yet.

This guy is SO lucky. Police don't need bullet proof vests or bodycams, they all need a K-9 partner.

Grand Prairie TX - THIS is why stupid people get shot!
Car chase ends in driveway, man gets out in shooting stance, pretending to have gun & keeps yelling "I'm gonna shoot you."

K-9 "Jurek" is released to take down the damn fool.
He had a pocket knife and a flashlight. Video = 1min

Thanks, WKC. This is only about 15 miles from me. The video made me smile.
1. There's no news about a cop shooting.
2. That dog is awesome to watch. :)

Police say newly freed gang member killed California officer
By Robert Jablon, AP | FOX19.com | Tuesday, February 21st 2017, 2:43 am CST

Image

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Whittier police thought they were helping a driver after a car crash.

Then, they say, he pulled a gun.

Officers Keith Lane Boyer and Patrick Hazell didn't know that the motorist allegedly had killed his cousin hours earlier in neighboring East Los Angeles and stolen his car.

"They walked up on the vehicle believing the motorist was in need of medical help and then they ended up in a gunfight for their lives," Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said.

Monday morning's shootout killed Boyer. It left Hazell and the suspected gunman hospitalized and the Los Angeles suburb in shock.

Boyer was "the best of the best," Police Chief Jeff Piper said at an afternoon news conference. He wept as he described his friend of more than 25 years.

"All of us have been grieving," the chief said. "And I didn't think I had any tears left."

The officers answered the report of a car accident at about 8:30 a.m. and a driver pointed them to the vehicle which had rear-ended his car, police said.

That driver had gotten out and asked those he had hit to help push his stolen car from the intersection, investigators said.

The officers approached the motorist, a 26-year-old gang member with a history of serious offenses who had been granted early release from jail about a week ago, county sheriff's Lt. John Corina said.

"When they get him out of the car, they go to pat him down for weapons, they can see he's got tattoos all over his face and all over his neck," Corina said.

The man then pulled a semi-automatic handgun from his waistband and opened fire at the officers, who were wearing bulletproof vests and shot back, Corina said.

Boyer was pronounced dead at a hospital. Hazell and the alleged gunman, whose name wasn't immediately released, were hospitalized in stable condition and were expected to live, authorities said.

Corina didn't immediately know why the gang member had been jailed or why he had been released early.

But Piper and McDonnell criticized laws designed to reduce the state's overcrowded prison population by moving some inmates to county jails and effectively reducing some sentences or providing early release.

"This is a senseless tragedy that did not need to happen," Piper said.

Gov. Jerry Brown issued a statement of condolence. Capitol flags were ordered to be flown at half-staff in Boyer's honor.

Boyer joined the force as a dispatcher and jailer in 1989 and became a full-time officer in 1990. Boyer recently talked to the chief about retiring in a year or two.

Yadira Arroyo, a 44-year-old mother of five children, is the eighth EMT to die in the line of duty - and the third woman to
die, according to the Fire Department of New York. Jose Gonzalez has been arrested in her death.

Harrowing footage has captured the sickening moment a FDNY medic and mother-of-five was run over and killed by a man who stole her ambulance, leaving her distraught partner trying to attack the carjacker.

The chaotic scene unfolded in a matter of minutes on Thursday evening in the Bronx after the two medics were flagged down by members of the public and told a man was riding on the back of their rig.

I didn't think of that, Carm, but you are so right. The lawyers would be standing in line for that one.

Yeah, this is a case I am going to follow. His first response to reporters questions was that he "didn't do anything wrong." He's only 24 y/o and has had 30 prior arrests. :TF

BAYTOWN, Texas – The search continues for the killer of a 30-year veteran of law enforcement who was shot in Baytown early Monday.

Harris County Pct. 3 Assistant Chief Deputy Constable Clinton Greenwood was airlifted to the hospital but did not survive, Lt. Steve Dorris with Baytown PD confirmed at a morning press conference.

Lt. Dorris said at about 7 a.m. officers received a call for assistance at the county courthouse on W. Baker Road near Garth Road.

Officers arrived to find the deputy shot at least once. They came to his aid, and he was transported by ambulance to Life Flight waiting nearby. He was then taken to the Texas Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

Lt. Dorris said Baytown PD is working the investigation, but so far there are not enough details to discuss a possible suspect, suspect vehicle or motive for the shooting.

“It’s very early on in the investigation,” said Lt. Dorris. “What I can tell you is we have the full force of the Baytown Police Department working on the case along with members from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department, the Texas Rangers, the Pct. 3 Constable’s Department and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force.”

Schools close amid Wisconsin manhunt for gun theft suspect
By Associated Press | April 7, 2017, Noon ET

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Officials have closed several schools in southern Wisconsin as police search for a man suspected of stealing numerous guns and threatening to use them against public officials or a school.

Rock County Sheriff Robert Spoden said Friday that the suspect, 32-year-old Joseph Jakubowski, also sent an anti-government manifesto to the White House.

Police allege Jakubowski stole a large quantity of handguns and rifles from a gun shop Tuesday in Janesville, about 70 miles southwest of Milwaukee. Investigators found a burned vehicle registered to him nearby.

Public schools in Janesville and Milton canceled classes Friday as officers combed the area. The University of Wisconsin-Rock County and Blackhawk Technical College were also closed.

Authorities allege Jakubowski had threatened to steal weapons and use them against public officials or at an unspecified school.

Doctor Convicted of Murdering Wife Found Dead at Utah Prison
by Rachael Trost | NBC News | April 10, 2017

A once-prominent Utah doctor serving a life sentence for the 2007 murder of his wife was found dead Sunday at a Utah State Prison.

Martin MacNeill, 60, was found unresponsive by correctional officers in the facility's outdoor yard, according to a press release from the Department of Corrections. Correctional officers performed CPR while waiting for emergency crews to respond. Emergency responders were unable to revive him, and MacNeill was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for the prison said in a statement that MacNeill's death is being investigated, but there were "no obvious signs of foul play."

Attorney Randy Spencer, who represented MacNeill at his 2014 trial, told NBC affiliate KSL that during a visit last week, MacNeill seemed in good spirits. But he told the station his client had attempted to take his own life on at least one other occasion.

"I feared that this day would come," Spencer told the station. "It hasn't been officially released, but I suspect that that is what has happened."
