Yeah, Daisy..... if you are gonna stay in St Louis... you need fences to keep the cattle out... and guns with tranquilizer darts as a minimum!!

You could always provide Safari Park car parking... or take tour parties on Night Safaris?

I don't post half the police shootings I read about, but this one is sad. Officers walking down the street and ambushed. Senseless! :(

LAPD officer wounded in 'ambush' shooting in Westlake District
By Paul Pringle | Los Angeles Times | December 29, 2017, 11:40PM

A Los Angeles police officer was shot and wounded late Friday in an ambush attack in the Westlake District, authorities said. The shooting occurred about 9:50 p.m.

“She was ambushed,” said Officer Mike Lopez said. “You’re walking and all the sudden someone starts shooting at you.” The unidentified officer was hit in the thigh and was hospitalized at County-USC Medical Center.

The officer was with a partner, who was not wounded. Neither fired a weapon, Lopez said.

The LAPD tweeted, “Please keep the officer in your prayers tonight.”

One unidentified suspect was taken into custody, but police were continuing to search for others possibly involved. A gun was recovered. Several streets in the area were closed, as well as the southbound 110 Freeway, as officers conducted their search.

Deputy Killed In Douglas County Identified
By CBS Denver | December 31, 2017 at 6:34 pm

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) – The deputy shot and killed in Douglas County Sunday morning has been identified as Zackari Parrish III. He leaves behind a wife and two young daughters.

Parrish was among five deputies and two civilians who were shot at the Copper Canyon Apartments Sunday morning.

The other deputies were identified as Mike Doyle, 28, Taylor Davis, 30, and Jeff Pelle, 32. Castle Rock Police Department Officer Tom O’Donnell, 41, was also shot. They were all in stable condition Sunday afternoon, according to Sheriff Spurlock.

The two civilian victims have not been identified. They suffered non-life threatening injuries.

From an earlier article, this is what happened:

Deputies first arrived at the Copper Canyon Apartment Homes on County Line Road near University Boulevard around 1:30 a.m. after a resident complained of loud noise at a neighboring apartment home.

The second call to deputies came around 5 a.m., alerting them of a more serious “disturbance” at the apartment in question.

Law enforcement officers set up a perimeter, including a special weapons and tactical team, in case the disturbance moved away from the immediate area.

At 5:14 a.m., officers entered the apartment with the help of a male roommate, and began talking with the suspect, who had barricaded himself in a bedroom, explained Tony Spurlock, Sheriff of Douglas County.

“We respond to every call anticipating that everyone has a gun. This is Colorado,” Spurlock added. Deputies, however, may not have anticipated the violent attack that happened next.

The suspect fired more than 100 rounds, Spurlock said, killing one deputy and injuring four other law enforcement officers in an ambush style shooting.

Two apartment neighbors, also struck by the gunfire, were rushed to an area hospital and were expected to survive.

Ex-Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver guilty of murdering teenager Jordan Edwards
By Nichole Manna | FW Star-Telegram | August 28, 2018

DALLAS - A Dallas County jury has found ex-Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver guilty of murder in the death of 15-year-old Jordan Edwards, an African-American youth who was unarmed when Oliver shot him in April 2017.

The jury deliberated for about 12 hours over a period of two days before reaching its verdict. The courtroom erupted in cries and cheers from Edwards’ family afterward as they clapped and hugged each other.

[...]
The trial immediately moved into the punishment phase. The jury is listening to testimony from friends, family and teachers of Jordan before determining Oliver’s sentence.

[...]
Until Oliver’s conviction, it had been more than 40 years since an on-duty officer had been convicted of killing someone in a shooting in Texas.

Body Cam Shows Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting of Man That Charged Officers with a Knife
Jul 2, 2019
Law Enforcement Network

Quote:
ATHENS, GA - On Monday, July 1, 2019, at approximately 12:45 PM, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Athens Clarke County Police Department (ACCPD) to investigate an officer involved shooting.

Preliminary information indicates that 2 ACCPD officers responded to a scene after receiving a 911 call about a male, later identified as Aaron Hong, age 23, causing a disturbance with a butcher knife at the River Club Apartments on Macon Highway, Athens, GA. Hong was using the knife in an aggressive manner and appeared to be injured himself. When police made contact, Hong immediately confronted them and began to walk towards officers with the knife in hand. During the incident, officers provided numerous verbal commands for Hong to drop the knife. Instead, Hong charged one of the officers with the knife and the officer fired his weapon multiple times, striking Hong. Hong managed to get back up and during the confrontation attempted to grab one of the officer’s weapons. The second officer fired at Hong multiple times, striking him. Nearby medics responded and Hong died at the scene.

One officer sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene.

The two officers involved, Senior Police Officer David Harrison and Officer Charles Bidinger, were placed on administrative leave.

About this video
This video is released STRICTLY for news and documentary purposes only. It is not intended to glorify violence in any way nor do we condone it.

Just goes to show.... when bleeding heart types claim that a cop should hold off when perp has "just a knife"... or maybe just "shoot his leg".... the real world is a LOT more complicated than that. The cop in this case went "the extra mile" to avoid shooting.. and damn near paid the ultimate price. His partner was left with no choice. Note.. the first 7? shots FAILED to even stop the guy.. and he managed to grab the cop while he still had the knife and could have killed him with that. He also managed to get the cop's gun and so could well have killed both cops.. and a few other people.
Perhaps these cops are worried about repercussions for shooting someone that they put their own lives in danger.

Scott Peterson's death sentence overturned by California Supreme Court
By Cheri Mossburg and Ralph Ellis, CNN
August 24, 2020

(CNN)California's Supreme Court on Monday reversed the death sentence handed down to Scott Peterson for the 2002 deaths of his wife Laci and unborn son.
The high court found that the trial itself was fair and the murder convictions stand.
In an automatic appeal, which was first filed with the Supreme Court in 2012, the court found that potential jurors were dismissed erroneously, in part because they expressed general objections to the death penalty on a questionnaire.
"While a court may dismiss a prospective juror as unqualified to sit on a capital case if the juror's views on capital punishment would substantially impair his or her ability to follow the law, a juror may not be dismissed merely because he or she has expressed opposition to the death penalty as a general matter," the opinion states.

Nothing in the questionnaires showed that the dismissed jurors would have been unable to vote for the death penalty if the the circumstances warranted, the justices said.
"The death sentence must be reversed, and the People given another opportunity to seek that penalty before a properly selected jury if they so choose," the opinion said.
