I didn't hear of that "Cottenwood" case.
Was she raped? If not, why then?
I never quite "got it" why the killers kill the female, and many times just slightly injure the male, who WOULD surely BE the biggest threat to them?

The "Cottonwood case" was new to me too, Joni. It was the "Dateline" report of the case that was news, rather than the case itself.
If you read the info quoted.. it was the old... "husband murdered wife" thing. He was having an affair and so I guess wanted the wife out of the way. No mention of rape anywhere I have seen.

I just wondered if it was an "outsider"; a random rape/murder. No rape, no outsider, just another WANT IT ALL husband.

Speaking of rapes ... I remember through my life, a rape was just that - a horrible rape!
But when THEY realized their victims started identifying them, they started MURDERING their "victim/witnesses"!
Now, looks like 1000% - rape/murder. If you live long enough, you see many patterns!

Worst Police Sketch Ever? Texas Armed Robbery Suspect's Cartoonish Likeness Just Stinks

This as about as bad as police sketches get.

Two women in Texas were robbed at knifepoint in broad daylight Thursday by what appears to be a peripheral character from the Charlie Brown universe, or possibly Beast Jesus.

The Lamar County Sheriff’s Department released a statement along with the drawing, reminding the public that "the sketch is not a true depiction of the suspect, only a likeness." Wow, good thing they cleared that up.

Authorities hunt for woman after bags of body parts found in St. Clair Township

ST. CLAIR TOWNSHIP — Police are looking for a woman in connection with the grisly discovery Thursday afternoon of multiple bags containing human body parts scattered along snowy roads in St. Clair Township.

St. Clair County Sheriff Timothy Donnellon said police are searching for a middle-aged white woman driving a late 90s gray or tan sport utility vehicle, similar in appearance to a GMC Jimmy or Chevy Blazer.

St. Clair County Sheriff Detective Stacy Tunich said several bags containing human body parts were discovered on Allington Road between Fred Moore Highway and Trumble Road. A bag also was found on Fred Moore Highway, Tunich said.

Donnellon said the sheriff department had received a tip a middle-aged woman was tossing garbage in the area.

He said some of the body parts were in bags and some were not. He did not disclose the number of bags.

Technicians from the Michigan State Police Crime Lab were at the scene Thursday night.

Donnellon said the investigation is very preliminary, but is being handled as a homicide.

NEW YORK (AP) — Amid unusually tight security, Osama bin Laden's son-in-law goes to trial Monday on charges he conspired to kill Americans in his role as al-Qaida's mouthpiece after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Spectators at the trial of Sulaiman Abu Ghaith — the highest-ranking al-Qaida figure to face trial on U.S. soil since the attacks — will pass through a metal detector before entering a Manhattan courtroom where prosecutors will try to prove to an anonymous jury that the one-time terror network spokesman tried to rally others to kill Americans.

Prosecutors say they plan to show jurors during their opening statement a picture of Abu Ghaith seated with bin Laden and other al-Qaida leaders on the day after Sept. 11, 2001, as they make statements about the attacks. They say Abu Ghaith described the circumstances of the filming in his post-arrest statement.

Also during the trial, prosecutors will show jurors post-Sept. 11 videos in which the charismatic bearded man promises more attacks on the United States as devastating as those that demolished the World Trade Center.

Perry Cardwell took his daughter to the new federal courthouse Monday morning to watch his mother testify in a decade-old robbery in a racketeering trial for an alleged Tongan Crip Gang member.

"It was a normal court case," daughter Sara Jacobson said Monday. "You don’t expect anything to happen."

But Cardwell’s mother never had the chance to take the witness stand. At about 9:25 a.m., the defendant charged a witness, who was reportedly testifying about life in the Tongan Crip Gang (TCG), and was shot several times by a U.S. marshal.

The defendant, identified as 25-year-old Siale Angilau, died at a hospital hours later.

Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, boxer wrongly convicted of murder, dies

(CNN) -- Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the middleweight boxing contender who spent 19 years in prison after being wrongly convicted of a triple murder, has died in Toronto, according to Win Wahrer, the director of client services for the Association in Defence of the Wrongly Convicted.

Carter, 76, died of complications from prostate cancer, Wahrer said.

"I always remember spending hours and hours with Rubin talking about the wrongful convictions," she told CNN. "He was a great mentor and teacher. I felt very fortunate to have those times with him. ... He lived a very full life."

Carter spent 19 years in prison for a triple killing in New Jersey before a federal judge ruled in 1985 that he and John Artis, who was with Carter on the night of the shootings, did not receive fair trials and released them.
