Perjury - Subornation TIMELINE 1/24/2012 - Bob Bashara reports his wife missing. 1/25/2012 - Jane Bashara was found dead in the back seat of her Mercedes SUV in an alley in Detroit, Michigan. The cause of death was strangulation. Police believe she was murdered at her home in the garage then moved to the alley. 1/31/2012 - Joe Gentz, a mentally impaired handyman, confessed to the killing. It appears police did not take him seriously and no arrest was made. 2/2/2012 - Articles begin to be posted stating Bob Bashara was leading a "double life". "..a double life centering on the underground world of sadomasochism and sexual deviancy with women other than his wife." It was also reported that he maintained a "sex dungeon" in the basement of the Hard Luck Lounge, located in a building owned by Bob Bashara. Reports also began circulating that he had a relationship with a Rachel Rene Gillett. 3/2012 - Gillett's home is raided. Officials left her home carrying seven cardboard boxes and an evidence bag. Police say she is not a person of interest. Bashara's attorney releases a statement saying they had an "open marriage" 3/3/2012 - Joe Gentz is arrested for the murder of Jane Bashara. He reached a deal and plead guilty to 2nd degree murder on December 21, 2012. He admitted that Bob Bashara had paid him $2,000 and an old Cadillac to murder his wife. He was sentenced to 17-28 years. Gentz has an IQ of 67. 3/9/2012 - Newspapers report that the clothing worn by Jane Bashara at the time of her death was missing or had been destroyed. It was reported that the clothes, which were supposed to have been shipped to the Michigan State Police crime laboratory, had been picked up from the Wayne County medical examiner by a funeral home. The funeral director said that he did not recall what had happened to the clothing, but that "it is customary procedure to dispose of clothing not requested by police, especially if it was blood-stained or dirty." Bob Bashara's lawyer, David Griem, told reporters that the loss of forensic evidence from the clothing was "devastating news" to the family and "a significant roadblock in the search for truth and justice for Jane Bashara. 6/25/2012 - Bob Bashara is arrested for solicitation of murder but not for the murder of his wife. Bashara tried to have Gentz killed. 10/11/2012 - Bashara plead guilty to Solicitation of Murder. Some believe that Bashara plead guilty to take the heat off of him for his wife's murder. He wants people to believe that he was so angry that Gentz had murdered his wife that he wanted him dead. In reality, with Gentz dead, the case against Bashara for killing Jane would be weaker....or at least that could have been his thoughts. 12/10/2012 - Bob Bashara is sentenced to 6 1/2 - 20 years for the solicitation. 4/16/2013 - Police announce they have charged Bob Bashara with first-degree premeditated murder in the death of Jane Bashara. 9/9/ - 9/13/2013 - A 5-day preliminary hearing is held to determine if Bashara will stand trial for his wife's murder. The judge heard from thirty witnesses including two of his mistresses, Janet Leehmann and Rachel Gillett. Both mistresses say they met Bashara on a bondage dating website. Both women knew about each other. Gillett testified that she was planning on buying a house with Bashara and asking Leehmann to move in with them. Judge Kenneth King ruled that Bashara will be bound over for trial. 9/20/2013 - Bashara is officially arraigned on murder charges in front of judge Vonda Evans. A trial date is set for March 3, 2014. 2/18/2014 - Judge Evans appoints new attorneys for Bashara. After reading a lengthy letter from Bashara, Evans said the public defender's office did not have the resources to adequately defend Bashara. She appointed David Cripps, Gabi Silver and another attorney to be named at a later date. Cripps is the attorney that Bashara wanted but couldn't afford. Now the tax payers will pay for him and the others. It is determined that the trial will not happen on March 3rd. 3/11/2014 - Judge Evans said in February that attorneys David Cripps and Gabi Silver would be appointed - but that is not what happened on this day in court. Judge Evans appointed David Cripps and Lillian Diallo instead. That led to a thirty minute conference in the judge's chambers, then Judge Evans announced she was not going to enter an order appointing Cripps, leaving Bashara's legal team in limbo. October 6 trial date was set. 4/15/2014 - Michael McCarthy will now represent Bob Bashara, along with attorney Lillian Diallo. |

Judge in Bob Bashara case wants to explore 'resolution' to case 2:44 PM, September 8, 2014 By Elisha Anderson, Detroit Free Press Staff Writer The judge presiding over Bob Bashara’s trial told him — and the attorneys in the case — to return to her courtroom later this month “to see whether or not there may be a potential resolution.” Wayne County Circuit Judge Vonda Evans instructed Bashara, a Grosse Pointe businessman charged in his wife’s murder, to look at the evidence in the case like he would be consulting a friend instead of himself. “What would you tell your best friend about everything that’s presented?” she asked. “And then what would you tell your best friend to do?” It’s unclear what possible resolution she was referring to and the word “plea deal” was never used. She did say there’s a lot at stake for the 57-year-old defendant, his children and the community. “There is a chance that there may be a potential resolution,” Evans said. “I want to explore that.” She did not elaborate, but set a hearing for Sept. 24. “We have not offered a plea in the Bashara case at this time,” Maria Miller, a spokesperson for the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, told the Free Press in an e-mail after the hearing. No plea deal: Bob Bashara murder case headed for trial Elisha Anderson, Detroit Free Press 11:43 a.m. EDT September 24, 2014 The judge presiding over the murder trial told Bashara to return to court today "to see whether or not there may be a potential resolution." Bob Bashara was back in court today and it was made clear there's been no plea offer in the case. He will go to trial on Oct. 6. Earlier this month, Wayne County Circuit Judge Vonda Evans told him to return today "to see whether or not there may be a potential resolution." "It's my understanding that's not possible," Evans said today. Assistant Wayne County Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey said no plea offer has been made in the case.
