Jason Van Dyke Trial: Jury sequestered, 1st day of deliberations over
By Jessica D'Onofrio, Leah Hope, Evelyn Holmes, Sarah Schulte, Liz Nagy, Cate Cauguiran | ABC7Chicago | October 4, 2018

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The jury in the Jason Van Dyke trial will be sequestered Thursday night and continue deliberating on Friday. Three alternates will also be sequestered.

Judge Gaughan said he will instruct the jury to stop deliberating for the day and sequester them for the evening. He noted the jurors have been at court since 7 a.m.

Attorneys and Van Dyke were called back into the courtroom just after 5 p.m. because the jurors had a question. Van Dyke is required to appear per his bond conditions. When he was not there immediately, the judge asked him to explain.

Van Dyke said his daughter allegedly received a threat and he had to move her. He apologized for not informing the court about the threat.

The judge said he wants independent corroboration of the threat and will revoke Van Dyke's bail if he doesn't get it. He reminded Van Dyke about his strict bail conditions.

The jury requested to see the transcript of Van Dyke's partner's testimony and two jurors requested a cigarette break. The judge then said he'd instruct them to stop deliberations for the day and sequester them overnight. While sequestered, the jury will not be allowed to see or read any media reports, and will be kept in a private location away from their homes and workplaces.

Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke was convicted of murder in the shooting death of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, marking a stunning end to a racially tinged case that roiled the city when police dashboard camera video of the shooting was released three years ago by court order.

I haven't followed this.... But I did look at original vid again.. and don't see no murder.

The Mob would have rioted if cop got off... and no doubt they will still riot even with a guilty verdict :doh

As noted, yesterday three officers were acquitted by the Judge.

Jason Van Dyke sentenced to 6 3/4 years in prison for killing of Laquan McDonald

Former Chicago police Officer Jason Van Dyke was sentenced to 6 ¾ years in prison Friday for the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Laquan McDonald, closing one of the most racially fraught and socially significant chapters in recent Chicago history.

After a daylong hearing, Judge Vincent Gaughan sentenced Van Dyke only on the second-degree murder conviction, finding that it was the more serious crime and the 16 aggravated battery convictions should "merge" into it for sentencing purposes.

That decision means Van Dyke will serve only half of the sentence -- less than 3 1/2 years in prison – if he earns credit for good behavior.

The highly anticipated sentencing came with added tension one day after Cook County Judge Domenica Stephenson acquitted three Chicago police officers of all charges alleging they conspired to shield Van Dyke from scrutiny in McDonald’s killing.

Thanks, Molly.

I had forgotten the case (from Nov 2015).
I hate to see a Cop sentenced, but I did not follow the details. Glad its not a LONG prison term as it might have been... but cop doing any jail time seems wrong.

Is that it? or do the riots kick off now??
