Hmm... Where are the protests? Where is the wall to wall media coverage? Where are the people calling these marshals murders?

Oh that's right Jeremy is white.

Two Louisiana City Marshals Charged With Second-Degree Murder of Six-Tear-Old Jeremy Mardis

http://gawker.com/two-louisiana-city-ma ... 1741166322

The officers are 23-year-old Norris Greenhouse Jr., a reserve officer, and 32-year-old Lt. Derrick Stafford. Colonel Mike Edmonson called the body camera footage of the incident, which has not been described in detail or released, “the most disturbing thing I’ve seen, and I will leave it at that.”

Added to the list of statements walked back from the original explanation is this: Edmonson said he was aware of no warrant being served to Few by the marshals, according to a report by The Guardian. Chris Few, Mardis’s father and the driver of the car, was reportedly not being served a warrant, he was apparently not backing his car into police, and he was definitely not armed. At least 18 shots were fired into the driver side of his car.

Hi Carm,

How sad. :(

I knew nothing about this, until I saw a few mentions on twitter. People saying what you are stating, it IS a double standard with the media.

I am also seeing others say "at least his killers are locked up and not running loose like Tamir Rice's" .. that's the sentiment and concern of some.

Update on above story. All (short) videos at this link tell a story. Such a senseless tragedy.

'He didn't deserve to die like that:' 6-year-old killed in police pursuit
By Dana Ford | CNN | November 8, 2015

(CNN)The head of Louisiana's state police said "disturbing" body camera footage helped build the case against two officers in the shooting death of a 6-year-old boy.

Jeremy Mardis, a first grader, was shot to death as officers pursued his father's vehicle. The boy was buckled in the front seat.

"I've been a police officer for 35 years, but as a father -- much less as a state police -- it was a disturbing, disturbing video that I watched, and that really helped move us forward," State Police Col. Michael Edmonson told CNN on Sunday

The boy's father was also struck. He remains hospitalized in serious condition, a spokeswoman said.

Officers Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23, and Derrick Stafford, 32, have been arrested and face charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. According to Edmonson, a hearing is scheduled in their case on Monday.

"I've got to deal in facts. What's important to me is what caused those police officers to pursue," he said. "What caused them to open fire?"

"He (Jeremy) didn't deserve to die like that. We need to find out why," the colonel added.

Bail set at $1 million for Louisiana marshals charged in boy's death
By Bryn Stole/Reuters | Yahoo News | November 9, 2015, 12:30PM

MARKSVILLE, La. (Reuters) - Two Louisiana marshals charged in a shooting that left a 6-year-old boy dead and his father injured will be required to surrender their service firearms and badges if they are able to post $1 million in bail ordered by a judge on Monday.

Judge William Bennett set bail for marshals Derrick Stafford, 32, and Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23, during a closed hearing at the Avoyelles Parish Jail.

The two men were working for the Marksville City Marshal in central Louisiana when they fired 18 times at a vehicle after a chase last week, state police said. Jeremy Mardis died in the shooting and his father, Chris Few, was wounded.

The marshals are charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder. The judge ordered them to be held under home confinement should they be released from jail, according to Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Doug Anderson, who announced the bail terms after the hearing.

Jeremy Mardis' funeral is this afternoon, and his dad (still recovering) has not been told of his son's death. :(

Lawyer: Motorist had hands up as police killed his boy
By Michael Kunzelman/AP | NewsWest9.c0m | November 9, 2015

MARKSVILLE, La. (AP) - Police body camera video shows the father of a 6-year-old autistic boy had his hands up and posed no threat as police opened fire, severely wounding the motorist and killing the boy, the man's lawyer said Monday.

"This was not a threatening situation for the police," said Mark Jeansonne (ZHAN'-sawn), the attorney for Chris Few, who remained hospitalized, missing the family's funeral for 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis.

Jeansonne spoke with The Associated Press after a closed hearing for the two marshals. He said the judge ordered both held on $1 million bond. Derrick Stafford, 32, of Mansura and Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23, of Marksville each is charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

The lawyer said he still hasn't seen the video, but its contents were described to the judge during the hearing.

He also said that while Few's condition is improving, he has not yet been told that his son died at the scene.

State police declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

Thanks Rumpole for starting this thread.

Yep, IMO this is gong to be end up being a cold blooded murder. All that LE has to offer is that they are not sure why Few was pulled over. Why aren't they sure because the filth who killed Jeremy have lawyered up and the reason they gave at the scene has proven to be a lie. I wish that they were jailed without bond. Sick.

Chris Few's mom said that he was talking when she saw him in the first few hours after the shooting, Edmonson (police officer) said that Jeremy didn't suffer and that his dad was there. I wonder if Chris tried to shield Jeremy. Too many terrible scenarios are playing in my head. Chris' mom also said that Chris is not aware yet that Jeremy is dead.

For my part I am praying for a holy curse on Greenhouse and Stafford.

After reading statements by the dad's fiancee, Megan Dixon, about their argument prior to the shooting, I figured something was going on that involved her. :roll

Few's fiancee claims one of the Marksville officers went to her house, sent her messages
KATC.com | November 10, 2015, 9:39AM

The fiancée of the man shot by Marksville officers last week says one of the officers had been messaging her on Facebook and had come to her home, The Advocate reports.

Megan Dixon, Chris Few's fiancée, told The Advocate that Norris Greenhouse, Jr., one of two officers arrested in the shooting of Few and the shooting death of his 6-year-old son Jeremy Mardis, had been messaging her on Facebook.

Dixon said Greenhouse also stopped by Few and Dixon's house, prompting Few to tell Greenhouse that he would hurt him if Greenhouse ever came to their home again.

Yep, Megan said that her and Few had an argument and he was asking her to come back to his house. This is when Greenhouse and Stafford first intervened and Chris took off in his vehicle. There was a pursuit and then Chris stopped his car and got out of the car. We dot know what happened during the pursuit, it seems that there was no speeding, what happened after Chris stopped, is another thing in question. Greenhouse and Stafford apparently claimed Chris backed into a police vehicle. Others have denied that. The body cam is said to show Chris with his hand up, a third officer said that Chris was surrendering and not threatening anyone.

This has yet another version of the argument between Megan and Chris.

Mardis shooting suspect soon could be out of jail
By Melissa Gregory | TheNewsStar.com | November 11, 2015, 5:36PM

One of the two suspects in the shooting death of 6-year-old Jeremy David Mardis may bail out of jail soon, but exactly how does that process work?

Bond for Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23, was set at $1 million on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He, along with fellow Marksville city Ward 2 deputy marshal Derrick Stafford, are accused of firing as many as 18 shots at a vehicle driven by Jeremy’s father, Chris Few, on the night of Nov. 3.
[...]
Avoyelles Parish Sheriff Doug Anderson told WBRZ-TV in Baton Rouge on Tuesday that he’d be mortgaging property owned by the Greenhouse family in both Avoyelles and East Baton Rouge parishes so that Greenhouse Jr. could be released until his trial. It’s not clear which facility he would be released from whenever that bond is paid.

The earliest Greenhouse Jr. could be released would be Thursday since Wednesday — Veterans Day — was a holiday. Some businesses and most public offices are closed on that day.

Karen Kojis, who works at Guillory Bail Bonds in Alexandria, said that follows procedure since officials must make sure that bonds secured by property have clear titles.

Kojis explained how the bond process works for The Town Talk. Businesses providing bonds — or bail, the terms are interchangeable, says Kojis — are regulated by the Louisiana Department of Insurance.

Citing gag orders, public records requests in Mardis case denied
By Melissa Gregory | TheTownTalk.com | November 10, 2015

Public records requests for information in the Jeremy Mardis shooting case were denied Tuesday by an attorney for Louisiana State Police, who cited the gag orders issued Monday in the case.

The Town Talk was among 11 news organizations that requested the materials through public records requests. Faye Dysart Morrision, a Louisiana attorney for the Department of Public Safety's Office of Legal Affairs, sent an email Tuesday at 8:54 a.m., denying those requests.

The Town Talk also made a public records request to the Marksville Police Department, which also was denied because of the gag order.

Bond hearing for Norris Greenhouse Jr. has been set
KALB.com | November 23, 2015

MARKSVILLE, La. (KALB) - We were told by the Avoyelles Parish District Attorney's Office that the bond hearing for Norris Greenhouse Jr. has been set for Tuesday, November 24th.

A judge will decide at 10 a.m. whether Norris Greenhouse Jr.’s family will be allowed to post bond for their son and if a law keeping him in jail was misinterpreted.

23-year-old Greenhouse Jr., was arrested in early November, along with 32-year-old Derrick Stafford, for the murder of Jeremy Mardis and the attempted murder of Chris Few.

Both are being held on $1 million bonds, and Greenhouse Jr.'s family has put up properties to post bond for the officer. This includes his father, Norris Greenhouse Sr., an assistant district attorney.

However due a state law preventing attorneys from posting bond, Greenhouse Jr. has remained in jail.

Judge grants immediate release of 1 officer involved in Marksville shooting that left 6-year-old dead
By Kiran Chawla | KSLA.com | November 24, 2015, 1:09PM

MARKSVILLE, LA (WAFB) - A judge has allowed one of the police officers accused of killing a 6-year-old boy to post bond and be released from jail.

Judge William Bennett granted a motion hearing requesting the immediate release of Norris Greenhouse Jr., 23. Greenhouse's family was allowed to post the $1 million bond. He will be released within the next hour. The judge also amended the gag order.

The hearing was pushed to 11:30 a.m. because Greenhouse was not initially transported and present for hearing when he should have been. He did not arrive until just before 11:40 a.m.

"They have the property," the lawyer for Norris Greenhouse Jr. argued. "They simply want to bond their son out who is innocent until proven guilty."

"Is it an absurd consequence to tell a parent he can't bond his son out?" Judge William Bennett asked the attorney for the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's lawyer said the law should be taken literally as it's written. Greenhouse's lawyer said it was meant ethically, not for families.

Marksville case set to go before grand jury in one week
KLFY News | December 2, 2015

A high profile case that has drawn national attention will head before an Avoyelles Parish Grand Jury. The Louisiana Attorney General’s office will present the case of two Marksville City Marshals to an Avoyelles Parish Grand Jury on Thursday, December 10.

The Grand Jury will decide whether there is enough evidence to formally indict Norris Greenhouse Jr. and Derrick Stafford. Greenhouse Jr. and Stafford were arrested November 6 for the second degree murder of Jeremy Mardis, 6, and attempted second degree murder of Mardis’ dad, Chris Few.
[...]
Bond for both men was set at $1 million each. Greenhouse Jr.’s father, Norris Greenhouse Sr. was able to put up $1 million worth of property to secure the required bond for his son after a court hearing. Greenhouse Jr. was released on bond on November 24.

Stafford however, remains in Rapides Parish where he is being held on a $1 million bond. The motion for bond reduction Stafford’s lawyer filed Wednesday, December 2, said “Defendant lacks the financial ability to pay this bond and seeks to have the same reduced. The evidence in this matter is lacking and insufficient to support a conviction.”

A hearing was set for December 9 on the motion for bond reduction, but since the case will be taken before a Grand Jury December 10, the hearing has now been continued to December 17.

Case goes to the Grand Jury tomorrow.
I am guessing the body camera video of Sgt. Parnell will be released after the grand jury decision.

Other officers in Marksville shooting return to work, TV station reports

Two officers who were at the scene of the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy in Marksville have returned to work, according to WAFB.

The TV station reported that Sgt. Kenneth Parnell and Lt. Jason Brouillette had been "cleared of wrongdoing," attributing that statement to Police Chief Elster Smith. But Louisiana State Police Capt. Doug Cain said Wednesday that was inaccurate, and from state police's perspective any decision to "clear" those officers will be made by a grand jury. State police plan to present evidence related to the entire shooting, including the role of those two officers.

Still, Parnell and Brouillette returned to their jobs at the Marksville Police Department on Friday, according to the station. Parnell's body camera captured the shooting that killed 6-year-old Jeremy Mardis and injured his father, Chris Few.

Oh FFS!!! Blaming the victim. There is a video of Stafford's aunt speaking non-stop (without taking a breath) but I couldn't finish watching it. :(

UPDATE: Judge denies bond reduction for Marksville officer accused of murder
By KATC.com | Updated: December 17, 2015, 1:09PM CST

12:15 p.m.

Stafford's wife, Brittany Stafford, described the shooting as an "accident" and claimed authorities wouldn't have brought charges against her husband or Greenhouse if they were white.

Brittany Stafford and Derrick Stafford's aunt, Bertha Andrews, also said Few should bear some responsibility for the deadly encounter because he had been fleeing from the deputies.

11:10 a.m.

A judge in central Louisiana has refused a request to reduce the $1 million bond for a deputy city marshal charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy.

State District Judge William Bennett heard witness testimony Thursday during Derrick Stafford's bond reduction hearing.

Oh I know, Carm. :(

If you get a minute or two, listen to the first part of the video at the link (of the aunt). She's a piece of work.

I can't wait to see the video when it is released.

Trials set for deputies charged in 6-year-old's fatal shooting
CBS News/AP | January 6, 2016

MARKSVILLE, La. -- A Louisiana judge on Tuesday scheduled separate trials for two deputy city marshals charged with murder in the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy who was strapped into the front seat of his father's car.

A spokesman for the state attorney general's office said Derrick Stafford's trial is tentatively set to begin Sept. 26. Trial for the other deputy, Norris Greenhouse Jr., is scheduled to start Nov. 28.
[...]
Col. Mike Edmonson, head of the Louisiana State Police, has seen the video of the shooting. He told CBS News' David Begnaud in November how key the footage was to making the arrests.

"That video was incredible," Edmonson said. "I mean, as a father, much less head of the state police, I looked at that tape, I said this is incredibly disturbing."

Mardis had five gunshot wounds and his father had two, according to police.

A source told CBS News in November that Stafford and Greenhouse fired a total of 18 shots at both father and son.
[...]
Greenhouse, 24, of Marksville, has been freed from jail on $1 million bond. Stafford, 32, of Mansura, has remained jailed on $1 million bond since his arrest.
