Cops shoot and kill alleged gunman who murdered rookie Kentucky state trooper
Published September 14, 2015 FoxNews.com

A man suspected of killing a Kentucky trooper was shot and killed by state police early Monday morning, police confirmed to FoxNews.com.

Authorities said 25-year-old Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks, of Missouri, was located in a remote rural area near I-24 around 7 a.m., following an all-night manhunt. Johnson-Shanks was armed with a handgun and did not comply with several commands to drop his weapon, according to Sgt. Mike Webb.

"That gave the trooper closest to him no choice but to fire his agency-issued weapon, striking him multiple times," Webb said.

Johnson-Shanks was arrested while police waited for EMS at the scene and he died from his injuries at a local hospital at 8:23 a.m. Webb said he wasn't aware of any statements Johnson-Shanks may have made prior to being shot.

A statement released early Monday said that Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder, 31, was pronounced dead at a Princeton, Ky., hospital after being shot multiple times late Sunday night. Ponder had been a state trooper since January of this year.

Here’s the basic storyline:
[Kentucky State Trooper] Joseph Cameron Ponder, who was 31 and had been on the force less than a year, was conducting a traffic stop Sunday night around 10:20 p.m. on Interstate 24 when the driver fled, Kentucky State Police said in a news release.

A chase ensued with the suspect stopping abruptly, causing the trooper’s vehicle to “make contact” with the rear of the suspect’s vehicle, the news release said.

The driver then fired several shots into Ponder’s police cruiser, hitting him several times. Ponder was taken to a hospital, where he died shortly before midnight, the release said.

The suspect, 25-year-old Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks of Missouri, ran away and was found hours later in a rural, wooded area, said Trooper Jay Thomas, a state police spokesman. Johnson-Shanks refused to drop his weapon and was shot by officers, and he later died at a hospital, Thomas said.

Here’s where things get really interesting. Joseph Thomas Johnson-Shanks is the same guy who posted on FaceBook as “Jay MileHigh (JayCardinal)”

The same guy, he was deeply involved in the Michael Brown shooting and subsequent protests, riots, looting, arson, etc. and even attended the funeral and graveside services for Michael Brown.

Joseph Johnson Shanks and “Jay MileHigh” are the same person

I just finished watching the live broadcast of the Kentucky State Police on kfvs12.com. The spokesperson stated that Trooper Ponder was intending on putting up the suspect, the suspect’s niece, another young lady and the two children in the vehicle into a hotel room. The suspect having a suspended drivers license and the other adults did not have a license. Then for some unknown reason the suspect turned and shot Officer Ponder while both were in their respective vehicles.

Trooper Ponder was a decorated Navy. Specialist swimmer. Was not Navy Seal but worked with them extensively. He several “multiple” tours of duty prior to finishing police academy in Jan. 2015. He was not married and had no children.

Spokesperson expressed sympathy for both the victim and suspects family as this is a tragedy on all sides.
