A convicted thief out on parole has been charged with murder in the killing of a missing Arkansas realtor, whose body was discovered in a shallow grave at a concrete company early Tuesday.

Investigators found the body of Beverly Carter, 49, Tuesday, at Argos Concrete Company in a rural area about 25 miles northeast of Little Rock.

Hours later, Arron Lewis, 33, was charged with capital murder, kidnapping and multiple counts of gun possession.

Carter's body was found more than 20 miles away from Scott, where she had an appointment to show a house Thursday but hadn't been seen since.

During a press conference held late Tuesday afternoon, Capt Simon Haynes, the lead investigator working the case, revealed that Lewis was Beverly Carter's mystery prospective home buyer.

When asked about a possible motive, Haynes described the 49-year-old real estate agent as a 'target of opportunity' for Lewis.

According to the document listing the charges against Lewis and Lowery, the two are accused of kidnapping Carter “for ransom or reward… with the purpose of terrorizing her or another person.” The documents state that “in the course of and in the furtherance of the felony, or in immediate flight therefrom, [the suspects] or an accomplice caused the death of Beverly Carter.”

Suspected killer Arron Lewis could face death penalty
Posted: Oct 01, 2014 1:09 PM Updated: Oct 09, 2014 10:50 AM
By Alexis Rogers, Reporter

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) -
Arron Lewis had his arraignment hearing Tuesday morning after twelve hours of questioning.

Lewis pleaded not guilty to all of his charges, regardless of an outburst that he had before the hearing, telling his his lawyer, “I want to plead guilty and get it over with as quick as I can.”

Lewis admitted to the authorities that he kidnapped Carter after he was read his Miranda rights. While being taken back to his cell after the arraignment, Lewis said, "I'm just sorry it all happened."

John Johnson, Chief Deputy at Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney's office, said it is still early to talk about the death penalty. "The ranks of punishment for capital murder is life in prison without parole and possibly the death penalty," Johnson said.

Pulaski County Prosecutor Larry Jegley said it could take up to two years or more before the Beverly Carter case is settled. The death penalty is on the table. According to Jegley no one has been executed in Arkansas since 2005.

Arron Michael Lewis has been in trouble with the law since he was a teen. His parents are Margie Prince (has fb under this name) Father is Preston Ivan Lewis.

Margie Prince is very wrapped up in her religion, as you see by looking at her fb

Father goes by Ivan. He is a teacher and currently in admin position in Forrest City School District, Forrest City AR. Ivan is married to 4th wife Tracy Coburn Lewis 2009 (these are their fb names Ivan Lewis and Tracy Coburn Lewis). Tracy also is a teacher. Ivan is into genealogy and has 2 family trees. One he has Margie and son Arron listed, then after he married last wife Tracy, he REVISED it, taking Margie and Arron completely and adding Tracy out. Oh lol he WAS going to run for Gov of Arkansas but dropped out as a Libertarian.
Children of Clint & Nell Lewis 4) Preston Ivan Lewis
http://www.ivanlewis.com/genealogy/lewis.html

Both of Arron parents are strange JMHO.

Tracy Coburn Lewis also has a record :

Theft by receiving is most of what AL past is. AL is very good at writing Legal motions. He was arrested with his 1st wife in Springdale AR and that is what he was on parole for when he was as suspect and eventually arrested for Kidnapping and Capital Murder. He is currently incarcerated at ADOC Tucker Max, but only there because of Parole Violation. Otherwise he would be in the County Jail as his wife Crystal Hope Lowery is.

Arron has videos on Youtube showing how to steal!!!!

This one shows all of a lot of his videos he goes by Steveoh29 playing on the name from guy on the Jackass show that AL resembles

This video is one he made in Nov 2013 after he was released in Aug 2013 on parole

This his last video uploaded. The person doing the video is Crystal

AL had a FB and it was taken down, but reopened.. although you cant see the past comments. Some people got screen grabs of some things.
Just an fyi here is AL fb
https://www.facebook.com/arron.lewis.16?fref=ts
He was on various dating sites, OK Cupid, POF Plenty of Fish - which he even made posts to on Saturday Sept 27th. Also there is a sex site called Book of Sex that he was on. But the biggie on that one is Crystal is who opened the account, Jan 2014. There are abt 20 pictures, a sleuther friend joined and screen captured them. Disgusting!!!!

Crystal Hope Lowery goes by cajunfirecracker73 but on the Book of Sex dating site she is just Cajunfirecracker. Both AL and CL had Instagram pages. Altho they are both taken down there are some stuff still out there.

Here is one that was screen grabbed. AL was conversing with someone. CL logged on lol CATFIGHT :)

Chrystal Hope Lowery- Maiden name Manley.
1) Tarver, has daughter Courtney Tarver.

2) Toney Kyle Lowery, married in Texas, divorced in 2002 Pulaski County AR and have 2 children. Son Aaron Lowery and daughter Hannah Lowery. Kyle Lowery is a recruiter in the Army, stationed in Kansas. His current wife is Christy Lowery. Kyle tried multiple times getting custody but didn't prevail. By his statements in court affidavit filed after the disappearance and eventual murder of Beverly Carter, Kyle filed paperwork for emergency change of custody.

All of that can be found at this link of their court docket
https://caseinfo.aoc.arkansas.gov/cconn ... &end_date=

3) Bobby Don Jackson Jr (goes by Don Jackson) here is his fb https://www.facebook.com/don.jackson.37853734?fref=ts
* Don Jackson has a felony record for drugs. He was subpoena during one of the custody fights between Crystal and Kyle in 2009. Per CL self proclaimed "close friend" and a former "Verified Insider" at Websleuths, although CL and Don Jackson divorced, CL is still close to his family..... This is very interesting to me and relevant because, many of the FB friends of Don Jackson and his daughter Logan Jackson are friend and have mutual friends with people that AL would later be friends with.

4) Arron Michael Lewis. they filed for marriage lic March but did marry until April 20, 2014
How CL and AL met, that is a toss up. CL "friend" says they met on an online dating site. And met shortly before they got their marriage lic in March 2014. CL ex-husband Kyle (goes by TKL123 at WebSleuth) says he first met AL Dec 2013 and that AL and CL were a couple.

On Oct 17th CL filed divorce Pro Se against Arron Michael Lewis.

** more on my thoughts on that in few..

Arron Lewis and Crystal Lowery lived at 165 Randall, Jacksonville AR. That address has Jacksonville mailing address but it in an are called Gravel Ridge which has been annexed into Sherwood Ar. (hope I got that correct. Its confusing but I believe this is correct) ** interesting side note the home that they rented, is owned by a former coworker at Crye Leike and fb friend of Beverly Carter. Jean Cook
Crystal's daughter Hannah lived with them. Crystal son Aaron Lowery going by ex-husband Kyle affidavit in the custody docket) the son has lived with the Dad since 2005, Kyle said that he and Crystal had an agreement that son could go live with him as long as he continued paying the full child support).

The daughter Hannah was in middle school and was also involved in cheer at a gym called "Cheer Time Revolution All-Star Cheerleading Gym" https://www.facebook.com/pages/Cheer-Time-Revolution-All-Star-Cheerleading-Gym/154538971919

** this is the same Cheer Time Revolution gym that had a reality show Cheer Perfection http://www.yidio.com/show/cheer-perfection

**also possible IMPORTANT SIDE NOTE... Beverly Carter granddaughter Bailey Carter also attended this cheer gym. Conflicting info from members at WS as to whether they attended at the same time ...

Crystal Lowery had started attending a Nursing program in August, going by her fb, and friends. Attending UALR in Little Rock AR off of University AVE.

Arron had worked a couple of weeks at Argo Concrete company and was fired there are many locations that this company owns and operates out of. *unsure if it was the same location that Beverly Carter body was eventually found in a shallow grave on back of property or not. *the location was within a few miles from the home of Arron and Crystal on Randall Drive...

830/900 am neighbor GC sees AL he has hair

330pm neighbor GC sees AL washing car, has scratches, no hair

430 CL supposedly in clinicals

530pm BC called Carl Carter Sr last contact. >during this call CC stated wife told him she was going to show house at 14202 Old River Dr.. *report says to unknown person, but the unknown would be to CC.. BC knew a name which later revealed to be fake

7/740 JANE CARFAGNO, CO-WORKER OF MURDERED REALTOR, BEVERLY CARTER: Well, I was showing -- excuse me, that was all kind of hard to hear. I was showing Beverly`s listing and it was in a remote area about 20 minutes out of the city, and I accidentally got locked out, and so since it was so remote, I was a little scared and people I was showing the house to had already gone. And so I called her and she didn`t answer and so I called her right back thinking that she might answer, knowing if I called back twice I really need her. So she texted me back and said, with a client, call you back in a bit. And so I texted her back and I said -- I don`t know exactly the words I used but I told her where I was, I was at her listing on Haynie Road, and that I was locked out and was there any chance she was in the area. And she texted back and said, in Lonoke. And then I texted her back and said, by chance there a key and she said no, sorry.

**thru sleuthing I accidently came upon the address of this ^^ home

900> per VI #1 at WS CL tpld her that AL home

1030/11 CL arrives home allegedly from Nursing clinical's AL playing video games online **side note, CL daughter Hannah is spending the night (Thur Sept 25th with friends, CL "friend" at WS said that CL didn't leave Hannah at home when she was at Clinicals, so Hannah was not home.

1043pm call rec'd at Dispatch *from the orig missing person report

1047pm call dispatched

1059pm Deputy Purifoy arrives
Deputy Purifoy conducted search of residence without locating Mrs. Carter or any evidence of a crime.

Friday evening
conflicting whether CL went to school on Friday or not. She allegedly had carpool that morning and went and picked up Hannah and another child and took to school.

TP incident later Friday night (group of girls, friends of CL daughter Hannah, came by and toilet papered the home. Per a member on WS, knows first hand allegedly, there were 2 groups and it was all in fun) AL goes nuts, police are called. CL supposedly goes to ex bf to get away from AL... allegedly per CL friend, CL was trying to get AL to move out... Daughter again is with friends

9/27 Saturday
AL makes a post on POF dating site

9/28 Sunday

7am survillence of AL by PCSO

955 per accident report, officer dispatched to accident, AL transported to Baptist Health Little Rock

1130am AL walks out of Baptist Health

437pm time stamp on KIDNAPPING WARRANT FOR AARON M LEWIS Per CL friend at WS, AL calls CL telling her he had wreck and she goes to Hosp Again according to CL Friend at WS -LEO are talking to CL unsure if CL goes to PD from Hosp again according to Friend, CL gave her smart phone to LEO as well as password.

1048PM comment posted on Forbidden Hillcrest fb that CL had called family member from unknown phone number, stated when asked CL stated her phone had been stolen *not sure how to post screen shots.

** CL supposedly gave her smart phone vol to LEO. She had a flip phone at home and had it activated. According to CL exhusb posting on Websleuth and his sister, Hannah heard on the news on Sunday as everyone else did that Arron Lewis was suspect in disappearance of Beverly Carter. The bloody picture was shown, it was taken by LEO at the accident scene. Later public found out that LEO had had him under surveillance since early that morning. And were following him (unknown from where) when he going a high speed wrecked. Hannah by accounts was unable to reach her mother Crystal. Crystal oldest daughter Courtney called Kyle (her former stepdad but they are still close) in Kansas and told him. Hannah either called Courtney or her dad cant remb that part.

Allegedly, CL and her Ex spoke later that evening/night and decided that it would be best for Hannah to go stay with her daddy in Kansas for a week or so (shows this in the affidavit in custody case) It was a big news story and Hannah friend and people she knew were posting and texting and blowing up her phone, Instagram and FB. Between CL and her ex Kyle they decided that Kyle current wife and CL would meet at the usual switch off of kids place half way on Monday. Allegedly per Kyle in posting at WS, a detective as a courtesy called him and said that they were going to arrest CL that day and he needed to make arrangements for their daughter. Exwife called Det back and told him that she and CL were suppose to meet but wouldn't be able to get there faster as was coming from Kansas. So Kyle sister or sister inlaw came from Dallas and got the daughter at the County jail.

9/29 MONDAY

9:43 LEO arrive to Apartment complex where AL was sighted

10:00 AL in custody

10:00 CL is at ATM with daughter, getting $ allegedly for the trip to take daughter to meet Hannah step mom. LEO arrive at ATM taken into PCSO with detectives. CL is questioned for 8 hours ** conflicting, docket page says she was arrested on Oct 9th for Theft By Receiving misdemeanor chg, but Exhusb Kyle says she was arrested on 9/30 Monday. < he states in his affidavit where he filed for emerg change of custody it was because LEO found Beverly Carter cell phone in their home (AL and CL home)
https://caseinfo.aoc.arkansas.gov/cconn ... &end_date=

Unknown time: Per AL suit he filed in a civil case against Pul County Sheriff Office, he was told that his wife was also at the Jail being questioned and if he cooperated he could speak with her ( LEO doing their job lol)

9/10pm CL contacted family member to let know left PCSO

Per article
Pulaski County investigators said they began interrogating Lewis between 11 a.m. and noon Monday and resumed their questioning about 11 p.m. Between 11 p.m. and midnight, Lewis was charged with kidnapping and was booked into the Pulaski County jail.
Between midnight and 1 a.m. Tuesday, Carter’s body was discovered in a shallow grave behind the Argos concrete plant at 12117 Arkansas 5 in Cabot.
Investigators continued working at the scene until about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Haynes said.
"Evidence is something you can’t go back and get," Haynes said. "Moving slowly is the fastest way to a good prosecution. It can be time-consuming."
Investigators went to the home of the Carter family members about 3 a.m. and notified them of Beverly Carter’s death.
Investigators resumed interviewing Lewis about 6 a.m. During the walk from the investigations division to a vehicle that was to take him back to jail, reporters peppered Lewis with questions.
When asked, "Why Beverly?" Lewis said, "Because she was a woman that worked alone — a rich broker."
Charges against Lewis were amended to include capital murder.

** I believe this article is in error that BC phone was found, it states her car and phone were found. I BELIEVE it should be her purse that was found. But we dont really know anything about her phone except from what Kyle and CL friend who posted at WebSleuth say.... Also it says AL had a gun on him. I think that Nash person from FH said he had a boxcutter. If he had a gun on him when arrested, jmho the date would not have been Sept 28th. just my opinion/observarion

Over his client's objections, Arron Michael Lewis' lawyer announced his intentions Wednesday to explore an insanity defense to capital murder and kidnapping charges in the death of a real estate agent who disappeared after going out to show a home.

That process began immediately with a court order Wednesday for Lewis to undergo a psychological examination by doctors at the State Hospital.

The announcement by defense attorney Jim Hensley of Conway came Wednesday as the 33-year-old Jacksonville man and his estranged wife made their first Pulaski County Circuit Court appearance to answer charges that they kidnapped and killed Beverly Lownes Carter in September.

Carter, 50, of Scott, the mother of three, was reported missing Sept. 25 by her husband, who found her car and cellphone at the home she had planned to show. Her disappearance captured the attention of the state and the nation. It took five days for sheriff's deputies to determine that she had been killed, to track down a suspect in her case and then to find her body, which was bound in duct tape.

Volunteers joined law enforcement officers in the search for Carter. On Sept. 28, deputies announced that they were looking for Lewis as a "person of interest" in her disappearance. Deputies released a photo of Lewis bleeding from his nose, mouth and forehead from injuries that they said he got in a late-morning car crash on Jacksonville Cato Road in Sherwood that occurred while he was under police surveillance.

In revealing their interest in Lewis, deputies said he had left the Little Rock hospital where he had been taken after the crash without being treated for his injuries and that they had obtained an arrest warrant charging him with kidnapping. When police found Lewis the next day -- four days after Carter vanished -- at an apartment complex on Green Mountain Drive in Little Rock, he was carrying a gun and had been driving a dump truck that had been reported stolen from his employer.

Investigators added the capital murder charge after an interrogation spanning 12 hours. Carter's body, bound with duct tape, was found Sept. 30 in a makeshift grave behind Lewis' employer, Argos Southern Star Concrete on Arkansas 5 in Cabot.

Announcing the discovery of Carter's body, deputies said that Lewis had contacted Carter the day she was last seen alive by her family, posing as a potential client and arranging a meeting at the Old River Drive home in Scott where her car and phone were found.

Information from Carter's phone drew Lewis to the attention of investigators, officials said, but no more information was released by authorities. Prosecutors subsequently got a court order to keep the evidence that led to the couple's arrests secret, saying they feared pretrial publicity would taint the jury pool.

In an interview from prison, Lewis told a reporter for Little Rock TV station KARK-TV, Channel 4 that he did not kill Carter and that she had willingly gone along with him the night she was reported missing.

Lewis told the KARK reporter that "anything that did occur" that night was an accident and that the case against him isn't as "clean-cut" as authorities have made it out to be, but he would not answer all of the questions put to him.

The court documents formally charging Lewis with capital murder and kidnapping that were filed last week say Lewis "confessed" to kidnapping the woman but wouldn't say where she was. The papers also indicate officials believe Carter could have been killed the same night she vanished.

Lewis' wife, 41-year-old Crystal Hope Lowery, who has denied knowing anything about what happened to Carter, was not immediately named as a suspect in the woman's slaying. Lowery had been arrested on a misdemeanor charge -- theft by receiving, sometimes referred to as possession of stolen property -- on Sept. 29.

Authorities would not reveal any details of what Lowery had been accused of possessing.

In late October, she was arrested and charged with capital murder and kidnapping. She's been jailed without bail ever since.

Also that month, the father of Lowery's children suggested in custody filings that Lowery had been caught with the dead woman's cellphone.

On Wednesday, Circuit Judge Herb Wright denied a request by Lowery's attorneys to impose a protective order that would increase secrecy on the case to prevent information getting out ahead of trial.

The judge said he was confident both sides could keep the information that they wanted kept from the public without him getting involved.

"I've dealt with this in other cases and it's my experience a protective order is not necessary. If you don't want it [information] out there, don't put it out there," Wright said.

Mental evaluation ordered

With Lewis' sanity called into question by his lawyer -- done in lieu of the traditional innocent plea made at first court appearance -- his trial cannot be scheduled and the proceedings against him cannot move forward until the judge makes a determination at a hearing that Lewis is competent to stand trial.

"Whether your client wants it or not, it's up to you," the judge told Lewis' attorney when the lawyer said his client does not want to submit to an examination.

Lewis will be tested to see whether he is competent to assist his lawyer and whether he was suffering from mental illness or from brain damage when Carter was killed in September.

The process of scheduling and undergoing such an evaluation, which requires doctors to interview the defendant and possibly his friends, relatives and even prison guards who monitor him, plus review his criminal and medical files, typically takes four to six months but could be longer.

Mental evaluations are a common procedure in murder cases, with most defendants cleared to stand trial. A finding of mental illness or brain damage does not automatically preclude a defendant from standing trial.

But determining whether the defendant is competent can take even longer if his lawyer decides to dispute a State Hospital finding that the defendant is fit for trial.

The judge set a Feb. 26 hearing for a report on the progress of the process.

Lewis has an 11-year-old criminal record with arrests in six states, including Arkansas, and convictions for robbery, transporting stolen vehicles and theft. But there's no indication he's ever been found to be mentally ill in any of those cases. He has been ordered to undergo counseling for drug abuse and mental health before, court records show. The psychological counseling was a requirement of his 2007 conviction for a federal probation violation.

Lewis' court appearance Wednesday lasted about three minutes. The 5-foot, 11-inch 156-pound brown-hair, brown-eyed defendant was kept in a holding cell outside the courtroom until the judge signaled bailiffs to escort him in. Dressed in a blue uniform with his hands and feet shackled, he was escorted by a three-deputy guard, two of whom held his arms throughout the entire proceeding. He was taken away immediately afterward, with the hearing lasting slightly longer than usual because he wanted the judge to order that letters he had written to his wife be received by her.

The judge said he had no authority to get involved and suggested Lewis take up his grievance with prison authorities. Lewis then complained that it was Pulaski County jail officials who were withholding his letters from Lowery, but the judge said there was nothing he could do.

Lewis has been in prison since his parole was revoked four days after his arrest in the murder case. He had been sentenced to prison in 2011 after pleading guilty to theft charges in Washington and Benton counties.

Lowery's attorneys on Wednesday did not address the question about her husband's letters. Lowery filed for divorce from Lewis in October, about two weeks before she was arrested in the murder case.

In her divorce petition, which she filed without the assistance of a lawyer, Lowery said the couple had split up in August -- about a month before Carter's death -- after about five months of marriage, and that she did not know he had seven felony convictions. She cited "general indignities" as grounds. The couple have no children.

Lewis has not responded to the petition, and it's not clear whether he knows about it. He is Lowery's third husband and has also been married at least once, possibly twice, court records show.

Separate trials

Most significantly for Lowery in her five-minute court appearance was that chief deputy prosecutor John Johnson told the judge he has agreed to try her separately from her husband.

Her lawyers did not ask the judge to set a trial date but instead had him schedule her next appearance to coincide with Lewis' February date. They said they wanted to see what happens with Lewis' mental evaluation before scheduling trial.

Neither side would discuss trial strategy, but the Arkansas Rules of Criminal Procedure allow multiple defendants who share charges to be tried individually if one has confessed or implicated the other pretrial or if their defenses are antagonistic or mutually exclusive. Arkansas Supreme Court precedent also allows for separate proceedings when the evidence against one defendant is stronger than the evidence against another.

The rules also allow for separate trials for defendants whose constitutional right to speedy trial could be jeopardized by the time it takes to try all of them together or if pretrial publicity could taint the proceedings against one of them.

Lowery is being represented by attorneys Brett Qualls and Lott Rolfe IV who specialize in murder cases for the public defender's office. They took over her case from attorney Rick Holiman who had represented her when all she was charged with was a misdemeanor theft by receiving charge that is connected to the murder case.

In her application for a public defender that was submitted Wednesday, Lowery reported she has not worked since May 31, but did not say where she had been employed before nor how much she earned. Court records list her occupation as student.

The mother of two -- a 17-year-old son who lives with his father in Kansas and a 13-year-old daughter who had lived with her -- did say she had an $11,000 401(k) and had received child support but did not own any property or cars. She reported owing $24,000 in school loans.

Her children's father, Lowery's second husband, has since gained full custody of their daughter, at least temporarily, after Lowery tested positive for PCP at an October court hearing despite testifying she does not use illegal drugs. The custody judge also wrote in his order turning the girl over to her father that he was dubious about her assertion that she did not know about Lewis' criminal history.

Lowery's ex-husband also reported that his daughter had told him Lewis was a heavy user of methamphetamine, court filings show.

You are doing GREAT Mimi

Riumpole's tips:
1. You dont need [url] code when you paste a url.
If you simply pastse url it works.. and shows as shortened version

2. In most cases a separate line for a url looks better.. link not lost amongst text

Another article I got a lot of info from: I have this one copied

2 very different paths

One a good Realtor; other a ‘good parolee’
NIKKI WENTLING, CATHY FRYE AND RYAN MCGEENEY
ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE

Arron Lewis spent much of the past 10 years in prison. The rest of the time he was under the watch of federal probation or state parole officers in five states. He also married, divorced, married again and continued to have run-ins with the law over mostly nonviolent crimes.

During the same decade, Beverly Carter became a multimillion-dollar producer in real estate, lost her 19-year-old son in a car crash and, after a period of intense mourning, started to enjoy life again with her husband, their remaining two sons and four grandchildren.

In 2003, at age 22, Lewis received his first known robbery conviction in Louisiana and spent the rest of that year ditching his parole officer and adding to his criminal rap sheet.

That same year, Carter suffered a devastating loss — the death of her middle son, Christopher.

By 2014, Lewis had been paroled after serving 18 months of a six-year sentence for theft, and Carter was eagerly awaiting a fifth grandchild.

Lewis was being a "good parolee" this time around, said Dina Tyler, deputy director for the Department of Community Correction. He married 41-year-old Crystal Hope Lowery in April, and the two moved into a Jacksonville home.

In a Facebook post in late 2013, he admitted to his criminal past and announced that his path was changing:

"I have a wonderful woman who loves me and i love her, i have a house (paid for), my jeep and motorcycle (paid for), i’m on parole and do what i’m suppose to, i don’t do drugs and i’m happy so before you judge me for who i was, look at who i am."

Lewis, who described himself as a "daredevil" on an online dating site, posted a YouTube video of himself performing a motorcycle stunt on Arkansas 167 South on April 2. Lowery was with him, filming from a car that was keeping pace with his motorcycle.

As for Carter, she and her husband, Carl, lived contentedly in Scott, a rural community about 12 miles east of downtown Little Rock. After years of barely getting by, the couple was finally comfortable financially. They bought a boat to take out on the lake that abuts their property. They found a golf cart for their grandchildren to putter around in. There were trips to the beach and Disney World.

Then, Carter’s and Lewis’ lives intersected.

HINTS OF VIOLENCE

On Tuesday, Lewis, 33, was charged in the kidnapping and slaying of 50-year-old Carter after Pulaski County sheriff’s deputies found her body in a shallow grave.

Authorities have not said anything about motive in Carter’s death or why she may have been singled out.

Though most of the previous charges against Lewis were not especially violent and involved thefts, court records point to instances of volatility between Lewis and those around him. His attempts to re-enter society have been stymied by his conflicts with police, corrections officers, treatment facility staff members, employers and family members, court records show.

Arguments with staff members and a tendency to quit or get fired from jobs led to his removal from two rehabilitation centers — the City of Faith halfway house in Monroe, La., in 2007 and the Kansas City Community Center in Missouri in 2008.

Later in 2008, he was removed from Arkansas and his father’s supervision in Brinkley because of arguments between him and his father and stepmother.

In the stack of Lewis’ sixstate criminal court records, a few more severe crimes stand out. In 2003, Lewis was arrested in Kansas City, Mo., after stealing a 1997 Chrysler Sebring and driving it across state lines.

According to a Western District of Missouri court record, authorities found a sketch of an explosive device, handcuffs, a police badge and a demand note in Lewis’ possession. At the time of the arrest, Lewis’ roommate had already reported to police that Lewis had an explosive device.

Later, Lewis told officers that he was designing the device to use in a bank robbery.

In 2007, he rammed a patrol car several times during a high-speed pursuit in Louisiana. The pursuit started when a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop because Lewis had failed to dim his bright lights.

Pieces of Lewis’ past can be stitched together from information in his court records, including how many states he’s lived in — at least four, if counting rehabilitation centers as residences — and his knowledge of the penal system, which was extensive enough to hand-write a legal complaint from his Benton County jail cell against eight deputies and jail staff members in 2011. That lawsuit was dismissed after the parties reached a settlement to award Lewis $59,000.

Records — and social media — also provide a glimpse into Lewis’ relationships.

In 2006, some family members asked the court for Lewis to be released from a halfway house in Monroe, La., and placed on work release. His relatives lived in Louisiana, they told the judge, and they could help him get a job and a home and "assume a suitable role within normal societal expectations," the motion reads.

It concluded: "Petitioner prays that Your Honor may know Petitioner has renounced all ties with criminal conduct … Transfer to Louisiana greatly increases Petitioner’s chance to succeed."

According to a record of divorce, Lewis’ first wife was Jessica Baker. They married on March 10, 2011, in Washington County and lived together for six months. At the time, Lewis’ address was listed in Springdale at 6233 Clay Ave., a three-bedroom, two-bath home built in 2007.

The couple separated and divorced in September 2011. They had one son.

As of Friday morning, none of Lewis’ family had visited him since his arrest and booking Tuesday into the Pulaski County jail.

"He hasn’t filled out anything for anyone to visit him," Chief Deputy Michael Lowery said.

FICTITIOUS CLIENT

After a dozen or so years in the real estate business, Beverly Carter was friendly but cautious.

Like other real estate agents, she maintained a book of appointments, listing names and phone numbers. She always let someone know the address of any home she planned to show alone. She remained aware of her surroundings, noting questionable-looking people in the area.

Authorities located Carter’s appointment book. But family members say the name and number of the potential buyer she was meeting Sept. 25 were fictitious.

Carter likely felt comfortable that evening, given that she was meeting a client in her own small, close-knit community.

Investigators have not disclosed at what point things went wrong that evening. Carter’s purse and appointment book were found in her vehicle, which was parked at the first house she intended to show that night.

Leaving behind her purse was normal for Carter, former clients say. She always invited other women with her to do the same so that they could tour homes unencumbered.

At 50, Carter’s life was easier financially.

For the first half of her 35-year marriage to Carl, the couple often struggled to make ends meet. They moved often, wherever Carl found construction work. Carter stayed home with her three boys — Carl Jr., Christopher and Chad — until the youngest started school. Then she found work as a receptionist.

In the early 2000s, Carter decided to try real estate. She was an immediate success at it. Clients loved her charm and Southern twang. She was professional yet friendly. And she had a knack for matching people with houses.

Colleagues liked her, too. While she was competitive, she wasn’t mean or sneaky. Friends at the North Little Rock Crye-Leike office where she worked said her wide smile and infectious laugh made her "the light of the office."

When Christopher died in 2003, he left behind a baby daughter named Bailey.

Carter remained close with the girl’s mother. When Bailey’s grades dropped last year, the Carters took her to live with them, seeking to improve her education by enrolling her in a new school district.

By the beginning of 2014, the three Carters were happily ensconced in their rural home in Scott. Sons Carl Jr. and Chad lived less than 30 minutes away.

After years of worrying about money, Carter appreciated being able to buy the kinds of clothes she liked best. If it glittered, Carter wore it, her daughter-in-law Kim said. When Bailey started entering pageants, Carter indulged the 11-year-old in day-long shopping trips. For a mother of three sons, having a girl around the house was a novelty to enjoy.

PAROLE REVOKED

The appointment for Sept. 25 to show the house from which Carter disappeared was made a "couple of days" beforehand, according to Brenda Rhoads, who worked alongside Carter at Crye-Leike.

About 5:30 p.m. on the day of the showing, Carter left her home to meet the potential client, ostensibly to view a number of homes for sale in Scott and Lonoke, according to Pulaski County sheriff’s office Capt. Simon Haynes of the criminal investigation division.

About 7 p.m., fellow Crye-Leike agent Jane Carfagno Hall, accidentally locked herself out of her car and a house she was showing at another location.

Hall called Carter’s phone, hoping Carter would know where an extra key to the house might be hidden, but the phone went unanswered.

Between 7 p.m. and 7:40 p.m., Hall exchanged several text messages with someone she believed was Carter.

About 9 p.m., Carl Carter Sr., after several attempts to reach his wife by phone, drove to 14202 Old River Drive in Scott, the location of her first scheduled showing. Her Cadillac SUV was there with her purse locked inside. The house was empty.

Carter reported his wife missing, and at 10:40 p.m., Pulaski County deputies were dispatched to the area, Haynes said. Deputies conducted a search of the area for about an hour.

On the morning of Sept. 26, as authorities and volunteers continued the search, the sheriff’s criminal investigation unit started a full investigation.

"At that point, we had determined that this was more than someone just walking away," Haynes said.

Working through clues that Friday and Saturday, investigators determined that Lewis was a "likely candidate" in Carter’s abduction, Haynes said.

Investigators began conducting surveillance on Lewis about 7 a.m. Sept. 28, he said.

As searchers continued looking for Carter that Sunday, Lewis crashed his car about 10 a.m. near 8727 Jacksonville-Cato Road in Sherwood. Deputies said he lost control of the vehicle and it struck a concrete barrier.

Deputies arrived quickly and photographed Lewis’ bloody face, documenting his injuries.

Lewis asked to be taken to Baptist Health Medical Center by ambulance. Deputies followed and remained close by, but because no warrant had been issued for Lewis’ arrest, deputies didn’t attempt to detain him.

While hospital staff members were preparing a CT scan to check Lewis for possible brain injury, he eluded surveillance and disappeared from the hospital. Deputies realized about 11:30 a.m. that he was gone, Haynes said.

Between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. that day, a Pulaski County judge issued a probable-cause warrant for Lewis’ arrest.

At 9:43 a.m. Monday, observers spotted Lewis near Green Mountain Drive and Rainwood Road in west Little Rock, and called 911, saying a man resembling Lewis was acting "nervous" at a bus stop.

When witnesses approached Lewis, he fled on foot, running into the manager’s office at the Pleasant Pointe Apartments at 1602 Green Mountain Drive, according to reports. Little Rock police officers apprehended Lewis shortly thereafter and transported him to the Pulaski County sheriff’s office.

Near the scene of Lewis’ arrest, crime-scene investigators located a dump truck that belonged to Argos Southern Star Concrete, a concrete manufacturer and distributor for which Lewis had worked as a driver in July and August. Little Rock police impounded the vehicle.

On Friday, the state Parole Board revoked Lewis’ parole, which he had been granted in 2013 after serving a year and a half of a six-year sentence for theft.

He was later transferred from the Pulaski County jail and placed in the custody of the Arkansas Department of Correction. He is being held at the Ouachita River Correctional Unit in Malvern, a state prison spokesman said Saturday.

Press conference given on the afternoon that Beverly Carter body was found early that morning. I have watched this video about 30 times and got a lot of info ;) Personally I don't think it was random in the sense that no one knew ea other. Also, if you listen close they have no more suspects at this time... Listen close, what Sheriff Doc Holiday says about when they knew she was no longer alive... they have tons of info they aren't releasing...
