DOVER — A trial for Seth Mazzaglia — who is charged with murder for the Oct. 9, 2012 death of University of New Hampshire sophomore Elizabeth "Lizzi" Marriott — resumed Tuesday morning with testimony from six witnesses.
Dover police officer Scott Petrin took the witness stand and testified that he found Marriott's car in a UNH parking lot, while she was reported missing. The officer said there was a power cord and an owner's manual for a GPS unit, but no GPS unit in Marriott's car. He said he also saw a circular-shaped area of "residue" on her car's windshield, which likely indicated a suction cup for a GPS unit had been adhered there.
Petrin said he also found a power cord for an iPhone, but no matching phone in the car.
Mazzaglia's girlfriend and codefendant, Kathryn "Kat" McDonough, previously testified that after Mazzaglia strangled, then raped Marriott, the two of them disposed of Marriott's personal items, including her phone and automotive GPS, before dumping Marriott's body off a cliff on Peirce Island in Portsmouth.
Petrin also testified that he dusted parts of Marriott's car, including door handles, for fingerprints. Under questioning from Assistant Attorney General Geoffrey Ward, Petrin said he determined the interior driver's side door handle of Marriott's car had been "wiped."
Also testifying Tuesday was Brian Barbato, who said he was a neighbor of Mazzaglia's at the Sawyer Mills Apartments in Dover. He said he met Mazzaglia and McDonough several times in passing and came to the conclusion that Mazzaglia was "very much in control" and the "dominant" of the two.
