Another bungling 'expert', is this going to be another trial like OP's I wonder. Not much fun when we can't follow it live though, because I find that when you can watch, it's like being in the courtroom, which means you get a better overall impression of the trial as it proceeds.

Shrien Dewani could be cleared of the honeymoon murder of his new bride and be on his way back to Britain within days, according to one of South Africa's top legal experts.

The state's case against the wealthy businessman is 'riddled with inconsistencies' and could collapse before Dewani, 34, even has to face tough questions in the witness box.

Leading defence attorney William Booth said the two 'star' state witnesses against the accused had been particularly 'poor' and his legal team had a 'more than reasonable' chance of having all charges against him dropped.

Shrien Dewani was framed by a taxi driver in a botched kidnap attempt that led to the murder of his new wife in South Africa, a court has heard.

Testimony from convict Bernard Mitchell, who claims he spoke to driver Zola Tongo in prison, was read by Mr Dewani's defence in court.

Tongo is serving an 18-year jail term for his part in British businessman Mr Dewani's wife Anni's murder.

Mr Dewani denies arranging for his wife to be killed in Cape Town, in 2010.

In court, defence lawyer Francois van Zyl gave Mitchell's account of his conversation with Tongo, referring to the plot to get Mr Dewani to pay a ransom for Mrs Dewani's return.

The judge presiding over the Shrien Dewani case has lambasted the prosecution for "scurrying around for witnesses" so late in the trial.

Judge Jeanette Traverso expressed frustration with prosecutor Adrian Mopp today after he asked for proceedings to be cut short so he could call a new police witness on Friday.

"It's unfortunate that on the 20th day, the state is still scurrying around for witnesses," said Judge Traverso. "I must just express my great displeasure at the way in which the matter is being dealt with. This case has cost the state a lot of money and a lot of publicity. When is it going to end?"

Mopp assured her that this was the last piece needed in the investigation and revealed that the witness would be a police expert on primer residue who would testify on what happens when a shot is fired.

It seems that there's more 'scurrying around' here in Capetown than there was not so long ago in J'berg, same old, same old.

On the news here videos (shown in court) were broadcast of the 'happy honeymoon couple' sitting together, kissing and holding each other, followed by some reading of text messages saying that he should have been honest with her before the wedding, and she may not have gone ahead - or words to that effect, sounding as if she had no idea about his other life up to and just after the wedding, if the words were recorded correctly. I'm not sure where this info came from as I missed that part of the coverage, but it was certainly along those lines.

The alleged plot to murder newlywed Anni Dewani has been dissected and probed over the last four weeks in the trial of Shrien Dewani.

The British businessman has come face to face in court with two men convicted of murdering Anni in Cape Town on 13 November 2010.

They both testified that Shrien was the one who came up with the plan and offered them money to kill his bride – although he strenuously denies their claims.

The couple were being driven through Gugulethu, a township near Cape Town, in a taxi when two men hijacked the vehicle. Shrien was released unharmed, but Anni's body was found the next day on the back seat of the abandoned car. She had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to her neck.

Shrien Dewani trial: Judge to consider if case should be dismissed

A court in South Africa will consider whether a murder trial against a British man should be thrown out.

Swedish national Anni, 28, died in Cape Town, South Africa in 2010 after an apparent carjacking that went wrong.

Her husband, businessman Shrien Dewani faces life if found guilty if arranging to have his wife Anni murdered while they were in honeymoon in 2010.

If the judge disagrees with the application, the trial will continue and Mr Dewani may take the stand.

Shrien Dewani's defence team will apply to have the case dismissed on the grounds the prosecution has failed to present any real evidence against him.

Western Cape High Court judge Jeanette Traverso will hear the arguments for dismissal although her decision is not expected until later in the week.

The brother of murdered bride Anni Dewani has begged the judge in the trial of her husband, Shrien Dewani, to allow the British businessman’s court case to continue so the world “can hear the full story”.

In an emotional appeal for justice, Anish Hindocha on Wednesday urged South African trial judge Jeanette Traverso not to discharge the murder case early for lack of evidence.

Any failure to allow the case to continue, Hindocha said, would result in “Anni’s death remain[ing] on the conscience of South Africa forever”.

Having finished presenting its case two weeks ago, the prosecution has been widely criticised as being so poor that Traverso is legally obliged to discharge.

But on Wednesday morning, Anni’s younger brother asked the judge to force Shrien Dewani to explain his actions. “Please allow us the opportunity to demand justice for our sister”, he said.

“Please allow us the full story. We don’t want to return to Sweden or the UK and feel as if we did not get a proper and fair trial in South Africa.
