Post subject: | DC Navy Yard Shooter September 2013 |
Early on, The Other McCain posted: #NavyYardShooting Patience, Please: Don’t Let Media Reports Confuse You As we've learned, that was good advice. Since then, he put up a long post with multiple updates and photos: RStacyMcCain wrote: UPDATED: New Information Emerges on Navy Yard Shooting Suspect Aaron Alexis About eight hours have passed since shooting began at the Washington Navy Yard, and information is still sketchy. Early reports that as many as three shooters were involved appear not to be true. Investigators are still seeking a possible second suspect, but it now appears highly likely that today’s carnage — which killed at least 12 victims and may have wounded about a dozen others — was committed by one man, Aaron Alexis, 34, of Fort Worth, Texas. He was shot and killed, and was identified by his fingerprints, the New York Times reports. Read more at The Other McCain. Multiple updates cover most of the front page. |

Quote: "Harris, a rookie police officer and military veteran, was fired May 31. His attorney Eric Latinsky said Thursday that Brown's death was an accident that happened during a fast-moving situation. He said he hopes that's the conclusion reached by prosecutors." "Community leaders called for an investigation into the death of Brown, a popular Spring Hill barber who had been arrested numerous times in the past two decades." “Leaders in the community are asking people to be patient through the process and at that point, based on the information, we'll have to formulate a game plan,” Johnson said." Another follow up to this story. To the rescue...Ben Crump "Marlon Brown killed: Dash-cam video shows fatal police crash" http://touch.orlandosentinel.com/#secti ... -77457775/ Quote: Marlon Brown's former wife, Krystal Brown, and high-profile attorney Benjamin Crump also called for an independent investigation of the fatal crash. The move comes a week after a grand jury decided not to indict former rookie Officer James Harris in the death of Marlon Brown, 38, who a medical examiner said died when he slipped while running from police May 8 and was pinned under the car. I don't hear Crump saying... If Mr. Brown had stayed in his car, this wouldn't happened. |

Hiya, flgirl543! Thanks! Nice to cyber-see you! Oh geez, not Crump again... or still... but no doubt he won't be saying Brown should have stayed in the car. |

If members are interested, we can have a separate thread to discuss the original case and the re-trial. Please comment here for now. Thanks! |

We can hope... She certainly deserves to be at least thrown out of office; likely also deserves to be disbarred; and wouldn't surprise me if she deserved to be jailed. But will any of the above happen? I didn't follow the MA case, but my impression is that the woman went out to her garage and got a gun, rather than leaving through the garage, and fired a shot in the direction of her ex and their children. If that's what happened, I don't see it as SYG. If members take an interest, we'll start a separate thread and try to figure out what really happened. I don't like to see the judicial system manipulated to charge someone (GZ) or to re-try someone (MA) because a mob says so. So that's a mark against MA to start with, imo. |

Post subject: | Jury Finds AEG Not Responsible For Michael Jackson's Death |
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-504083_162- ... ath-trial/ CBS) LOS ANGELES - Jurors found concert promotor AEG was not negligent in hiring Dr. Conrad Murray, the doctor who administered an overdose of anesthesia to singer Michael Jackson. The unanimous verdict, which is a defeat for Michael Jackson's family, brings the case to a close after five months of testimony, three days of closing arguments, and several days of deliberations. Jackson's mother Katherine and his three children were suing AEG Live, a company responsible for promoting and producing Jackson's comeback concerts in 2009, arguing that the company failed to investigate Dr. Murray, the doctor who treated the pop star, because it was concerned about its own fortunes. It was argued throughout the trial that AEG Live was responsible for Jackson's overdose death in 2009. |

http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/03/showbiz/m ... l-verdict/ "Conrad Murray speaks out on 'justice' in Michael Jackson death trial verdict" From the article: Jury foreman Gregg Barden suggested jurors were boxed in by the wording of the second question on their verdict form: "Was Dr. Conrad Murray unfit or incompetent to perform the work for which he was hired?" Jurors interpreted "the work" to be as a "general practitioner" who was expected to treat Jackson and his children for routine illnesses -- not to infuse him with profopol to put him to sleep every night, Barden said. "Conrad Murray had a license, he graduated from an accredited college and we felt he was competent to do the job of being a general practitioner," Barden said. "Now, that doesn't mean that we felt he was ethical, and maybe had the word ethical been in the question, it could have been a different outcome. But because it was for the job he was hired to do, that was what we had to focus on." |

"Officer Disciplined for Inappropriate Comment to Marlon Brown's Daughter" "According to the report, Jones admitted he said, "with that attitude she's going to end up like Mr. Brown," referring to Brown's 13-year-old daughter Armani Brown. Jones encountered the teen when he stopped a group of teenagers from allegedly throwing rocks at a closed business in late May. According to Jones, he didn't mean to imply that Armani Brown would end up dead like her father, but that she would end up in trouble with the law." http://www.clickorlando.com/news/office ... index.html |

The Jennifer Alonso/Derek Medina case. Medina is claiming to be an abused husband and that he killed his wife in self-defense. On October 13th, he was denied bail in the 2nd Degree Murder charge he is facing. Link to Bail Denial Quote: ...The Miami-Dade state attorney’s office last week also released an autopsy report that suggested Alfonso may have been on her knees trying to shield her face as he repeatedly shot her at point-blank range. “The victim appeared to be in a cowering position,” Miami-Dade Detective Jonathan Grossman testified Tuesday. The detective, the lead investigator on the case, was the chief witness in Tuesday’s hearing... This photo is extremely graphic and not for the faint of heart. Spoiler: He is a "big" man, killing that young woman. I am incensed. Edited to add another link to autopsy results. Link to Miami Herald Autopsy Results |

Utah doctor Martin MacNeill found guilty of wife's murder By Lateef Mungin, CNN November 9, 2013 -- Updated 1224 GMT (2024 HKT) (CNN) -- Utah doctor Martin MacNeill was found guilty of his wife's murder in a verdict read early Saturday morning. MacNeill showed no emotion as he learned his fate, but a yell came from the section where his relatives sat. He will be sentenced later on the charges of first-degree murder and obstruction of justice. MacNeill had said his wife's death was an accident. In the end, jurors believed prosecutors' allegations that MacNeill drugged and then drowned his wife, Michele MacNeill, in the bathtub of their home on April 11, 2007, to be with his mistress. ...more at link http://edition.cnn.com/2013/11/09/justi ... l-verdict/ |

http://abcnews.go.com/US/nurse-suspecte ... d=19852141 This is a story from San Antonio. Genene Jones Quote: A nurse convicted in 1984 of killing an infant and suspected of murdering dozens more will be released from prison without completing her 99 year sentence because of an expired Texas law that grants a "mandatory release" to inmates with good behavior. On May 14, 1984 Genene Anne Jones, now 63, was sentenced for the murder of 15-month-old Chelsea McClellan in 1982 in a small-town pediatric clinic where Jones was a nurse... Prosecutors here are scrambling to link her to another one of her murders in order to keep her where she belongs. The parents of one of the other babies came forward and offered to disinter their baby girl in an effort to find results of the succinylcholine she used on Chelsea and others. UTMB failed to mention the morbidity rates when she went job hunting up in Kerrville. She is estimated to have killed some 46 babies. This is the book written about her. |

Mangum found guilty in boyfriend's stabbing death Posted: 12:46 p.m. Friday Updated: 5:48 p.m. Friday Durham, N.C. — Most widely known as the woman who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape, Crystal Mangum will now be known as a convicted killer. A seven-man, five-woman jury found Mangum, 34, guilty of second-degree murder in the April 3, 2011, stabbing of her boyfriend, 46-year-old Reginald Daye. He died 10 days later of complications at Duke University Hospital. Mangum claimed the stabbing was a case of self-defense, saying Daye was beating her in a jealous rage when she grabbed a knife and "poked him in the side." Jurors deliberated for about six hours over two days before reaching their verdict. Superior Court Judge Paul Ridgeway then sentenced her to 170 to 216 months in prison. ....more at link http://www.wral.com/mangum-found-guilty ... /13143246/ |
