Man found with Rosie O'Donnell's missing daughter arrested

CNN | August 23, 2015, 2:08PM ET
By Ray Sanchez, David Shortell and Emanuella Grinberg

A man who was with Rosie O'Donnell's missing daughter Chelsea this week has been arrested on charges of distribution of obscenity to a minor and endangering the welfare of a child, authorities said.

Steven Sheerer, 25, a resident of Barnegat, New Jersey, was picked up Friday after investigators examined the 17-year-old girl's cell phone, according to statement from Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph Coronato.

On the phone, police found evidence of "inappropriate communications over the last several weeks between Sheerer and the minor," the statement said.

[...]
Sheerer is being held in the Ocean County Jail, with bail set at $40,000, the statement said. A judge ordered that he have no contact with the girl or her family. It's unclear whether he has an attorney.

Each third-degree count against Sheerer carries a possible penalty of five years in prison.

Good to know Trayvon's friend Kit Darrant will be doing some hard time.

Miami teen sentenced to 28 years after killing mom, partying for week while body in house

MIAMI – A Miami teen who pleaded guilty to killing his mother and throwing a party while her body was still inside the home will spend 28 years in prison.

The Miami Herald reports Kit Darrant pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the 2012 slaying of Renette Emile, 35.

Prosecutors say the then 16-year-old student got into an argument with his mother, strangled her and stabbed her more than 100 times with a butcher knife. Police say Darrant covered her body up with sheets and sprinkled laundry detergent over it to cover the smell as he skipped school and partied.

Louisiana State Trooper Steven Vincent, who was shot in the line-of-duty Sunday afternoon, has died, Col. Mike Edmonson said Monday morning.

Vincent was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. Monday morning, said Sgt. James Anderson, Troop D spokesman.

Vincent, 43, is survived by his wife and 9-year-old son. A member of a military and law enforcement family. One brother, Keith Vincent, is the Chief of Police in Iowa and another brother, Terrell Vincent, is a fellow state trooper.

An avid runner, Vincent ran a race on Saturday night, Edmonson said.

Vincent, a 13-year-veteran of the state police force, was airlifted to Lake Charles Memorial Hospital, where a 10:30 a.m. news conference will be held.

Vincent was shot in the head with a sawed-off shotgun by Kevin Daigle, state police said. Vincent was responding to a report of an erratic driver near the intersection of La. 14 and Fruge Road.

Hi Londo!

WOW, I've been looking to see when he will be eligible for parole. What a plea deal. I think he should be in for LIFE! Found where his defense attorney said "This deal is equally beneficial to both sides. It allows this young man to repay his debt to society yet still have a second chance at life."

SMH!

UPDATE: 2 killed, 2 injured following shooting and stabbing in Sunset

KLFY Newsroom | August 26, 2015, 7:52PM

UPDATE: Acadian Ambulance reports that two people were killed and two others were wounded in a shooting and stabbing incident in Sunset, LA.

Two of the victims are sisters of Grand Coteau Mayor Shaterral Johnson. One of the sisters is dead and the other is wounded.

A man reportedly stabbed them inside a home on Anna Street in Sunset, LA.

Mayor Johnson tells KLFY her sister 41-year-old Shameka Johnson was killed in the attack.

He also allegedly shot a responding police officer and fled the scene.

That’s when St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz says the suspect has barricaded himself inside the store.

The suspect was taken into police custody around 6:25 p.m. The Sheriff says there were no additional injuries during the standoff.

Law enforcement officers used tear gas on multiple occasions to draw the suspect out. Guidroz says the Sunset Police officer who was shot is still alive, to the best of his knowledge.

Oakland Police Officer Fatally Shoots Man Who Allegedly Attacked Her With Metal Chain
August 27, 2015 4:27 PM

OAKLAND (CBS SF) — Oakland Police Chief Sean Whent said a female officer fatally shot an assault suspect Thursday morning because the man immediately struck her multiple times with a metal chain when she tried to talk to him.

Whent said the officer, who is an 18-year veteran of the force, went to a residential complex at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Van Buren Avenue at about 8:30 a.m. to follow-up with the victim of an assault at the complex that was reported at about 6:45 a.m.

The victim told several officers who responded to the scene at about 7 a.m. that the suspect had been trespassing in the complex’s garage. When she asked him to leave he assaulted her, according to Whent.

The responding officers, who were working the overnight shift, took some initial information from the victim but couldn’t find the suspect and then left the area, he said.

The female officer, who was beginning her day shift, did a follow-up interview with the victim. As she got into her patrol car to drive away the suspect, who she recognized from the victim’s description, walked in front of her car in the 200 block of MacArthur Boulevard, Whent said.

The officer got out of her car but “was immediately attacked by the suspect with a metal chain that he was swinging at her” and hitting her with, he said.

The suspect continued to advance at the officer so the officer fired multiple shots from her service weapon, striking the suspect, who was pronounced dead at the scene, Whent said.

The officer is being treated for head trauma at a local hospital, where she is in stable condition, according to Whent.

The suspect is an adult male in his 20s but Whent said police, who aren’t yet releasing his name, don’t have much information on him at this point. He said police don’t believe the man lived at the residential complex.

Asked by a reporter if the officer faced a life-or-death situation, Whent said, “It looked very dangerous” but a final determination on whether the officer was justified in fatally shooting the suspect won’t be made until a thorough investigation is completed.

Asked how dangerous the chain was, Whent said, “A metal chain swung at an individual is a weapon.”

Whent said the officer was wearing a body camera during the incident and he has viewed the footage, which he said supports his assertion that the suspect attacked the officer immediately after she approached him.

“There was no verbal exchange,” the chief said.

I've been looking for a recent article.

The Coalition to Defend Affirmative Action By Any Means Necessary has said it will protest the fatal shooting at a rally at 5 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Van Buren and Euclid avenues, near the scene of the shooting.

Very little on news updates or Twitter. One person (on Twitter) who was at the rally says "a neighbor said the homeless man is an immigrant from west Africa." :40 One vine shows about a dozen people at the rally. None of the 23 streamers I have listed in CA are streaming tonight.

Updated: 9:06 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 | Posted: 8:13 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2015

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News is at the scene in DeKalb County where a DeKalb County police officer has been shot.

The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. in the 1500 block of Boulderwoods Drive off Bouldercrest Road.

We do not know the extent of the officer’s injuries but DeKalb County officials said the officer was in surgery following the shooting.

Investigators confirmed to Channel 2 Action News the incident started as robbery investigation.

Neighbor Bob Gilman has lived next door to the home where the shooting happened since 1971. He says the neighborhood has seen a lot of crime.

“This is a rough area. We have a lot of crime … robberies, burglaries, shootings,” Gilman said.

DeKalb officer, homeowner shot when police respond to wrong home

WSBTV.com | Updated: August 31, 2015, 10:39PM

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Officials with the DeKalb County Police Department say they responded to the wrong home when a police officer was shot in the leg.

DeKalb County Director of Public Safety Cedric Alexander told Channel 2 Action News police officers were called to the 1500 block of Boulderwoods Drive off Bouldercrest Road for a report of a suspicious person in the neighborhood.

Alexander said the caller did not give a numerical address, only a description of a home where the suspicious person was seen.

Alexander said the officers found a home they thought fit the description and went to a backyard.

That’s when police said the shooting took place. Alexander said they are still trying to determine the events that led to the shooting, but he confirmed the officer and homeowner were both shot in the leg. A dog was killed in the process.

“A lot is yet to be determined here as to what and when shots were fired, how the officer received injuries, how the homeowner received injuries,” Alexander said. “But we did respond to the wrong residence tonight.”

Alexander said the officer was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where they have undergone surgery and are in critical condition.

The homeowner that was shot is expected to be OK.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out the homeowner,” Alexander said. “And our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer who suffered a severe, critical injury here tonight and lost a lot of blood. We just hope both of them recover well.”

Neighbor Bob Gilman has lived next door to the home where the shooting happened since 1971. He says the neighborhood has seen a lot of crime.

“This is a rough area. We have a lot of crime … robberies, burglaries, shootings,” Gilman said.

Alexander said because of the nature of the investigation, they have handed it over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

There were a total of three officers that responded to the incident. All of them will be placed on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation.

Off-duty Abilene officer found dead; Texas Rangers, FBI investigate

WFAA.com
5:27PM CDT, September 1, 2015

CLYDE, Texas – An off-duty Abilene police officer has been found killed, and the Texas Rangers and FBI have been called in to investigate, police said Tuesday.

The case is being investigated as a homicide.

According to a news release from the police department in Clyde, Texas, located about 15 miles from Abilene, at about 7 p.m. Monday, Clyde police officers responded to "an unattended death" at a home on Yucca Dr. involving the off-duty Abilene officer, Don Allen. He was the only person in the residence when he was found dead by family members, police said.

Clyde police contacted the Texas Rangers to investigate "due to the circumstances surrounding the death," police said. Abilene police are also aiding in the investigation.

"His family is heartbroken, as is our police family," said an Abilene police spokesman. "He has earned lifelong friends."

Allen's body was taken to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office in Fort Worth for autopsy.

Authorities said in a news conference Tuesday afternoon it does not appear Allen was targeted because he was a police officer, and there is no threat to the City of Clyde.

I grew up with a police scanner in our kitchen, on during the day. Listening was a must when our daughter was in high school, running all over town at night, like they do. I still listen, so I find this recording (re the above story) fascinating. :)

SCANNER AUDIO: Millis Police respond to report of cruiser shot at, on fire
This scanner recording captures the time between 2:17 p.m. and 3:07 p.m. on Sept. 2 when Millis Police responded to a report that one of their police vehicles had been shot at and caught on fire.
