On Thursday, I was driving to town when I noticed a little kitty on the roadside. Cars were going around her and she wasn't trying to get out of the road. I knew something was wrong, so I went back, pulled off into the grass and picked her up. She was panting like a dog, with slobber and blood coming from her mouth. I rushed her to my vets office. I was terrified she would die on the way.
My vet took her back straight away and I waited anxiously in the lobby. He returned some time later and said she was going to be OK! I had prayed that whole time. She had to have stitches to two areas around her mouth and chin.
I had them spay her and she is still there. I have 11 cats!! And I can't take in any more or the hubby might leave me. You would not believe how hard it is to find a home for a cat. If this had been a dog, I'd probably have multiple takers for her. She's a tiny thing, but the vet said she is probably about 7 or 8 years old.
I figured she must've had a home, but no one in the area claimed her when I went looking. No one answered my ads or FB postings. I don't know where she came from, but if someone did have her, they weren't responsible enough to have her spayed. We have spay/neuter clinics here and our humane society will pay for it if you are on a fixed income.
Then I think of all the people who drove around her, never even considering to stop and pick her up.
This is when my whole "People Suck" motto comes into play.

You did good :blow

Hubby wont notice one more with 11 already lol

OR

If he does leave... who needs a husband if you have 12 cats?

I guess she was hit glancing blow by a car? Lucky to have survived... and lucky you came along. Call her Lucky :cat

I was going to post pics of my big guy, but I am too stupid to figure out how. I have a black lab, his name is also Hiram. He was nearly dead when brought to me. He weighed 1 pound 5 ounces. He now weighs nearly 90 pounds.

The brother of a friend had a beagle mom and litter. He woke up one morning, all her pups had been kidnapped. He was mad. He put a sign in his front yard that read, "Bring my Puppies back!" He woke the next morning to 6 Hiram pups nursing at mama beagle. Hiram was the runt. He couldn't even use his back legs. I fed him puppy formula, crushed puppy chow in formula and plain yogurt. He gained strength daily. Now he is a big mamas boy! Bosses me around and allows the grandchildren to boss him around. Best dog ever!

Hi Hiram...

The thing about posting pics is.... they need to be online somewhere (eg photobucket or fb etc)

You can not upload to RT straight from your own computer

Hey Hiram :28
Enjoyed reading your story and would love to see pics! It took me a while but Rumpole has great, detail instructions in the HELP folder http://www.randomtopics.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=36.
If I can do it, YOU can :) And an account at PhotoBucket is easy to set up and use.

These are my German Shepard grand-furbabies at 8 weeks, Mitzi and Major. Can't wait to meet them in two weeks!

:28 Hi Mal!

Thank you. They have certainly changed in looks in only two weeks time.

I hope everything is going well in Florida.
Good to see you! :)

Not sure I have asked this question here before or not but I have a problem with my cat eating the dog's bed. It's a real soft fur bed. It's looks like this...

Image

My cat is eating mainly the top edge of it. I have used everything under the sun to spray it and she just keeps right on going back to eating it. We have done it all, sprayed the bed with smelly stuff, chased her and sprayed her with water. Nothing seems to work. She will even eat it when the dog is on there sleeping. I'm beginning to think she has OCD. 2 Years ago she developed Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome. That was shortly after another cat came into the house that she doesn't really like. She avoids him as much as possible.

What happened was, my son's girlfriend (at the time) had placed her cat at her Mom's house while she lived with us. We didn't want to take him in because we already had 2 cats and a dog. Needless to say, after her Mom had the cat for one week, she threw him out the door. She hates cats. We ended up taking him in till she found a new place for him. Unfortunately for the cat, when her Mom threw him outside, he got in a fight with another animal and ended up with a hematoma on the inside of his ear. When we got him, his ear was swollen and the skin was puffed up so that you could not even see inside his ear. We took him to our vet and they drained the fluid. Sadly his ear never stood up again. Well, that was 4 years ago and she is no longer even in our lives. He's really a love with people but, he and our female cat just do not get along. We have tried finding a new home for him but, no one wants an older cat. I haven't the heart to bring him to a shelter because prior to us, he went through 3 different homes plus I don't want him put to sleep.

Both he and the female basically ignore each other except, now our female cat has developed FHS and now I think OCD. At any rate, is there anything we can use to get her to stop eating the bed? I have already made a slip cover for it and that seems to work but, it's not as soft as the cover that's on it. I don't have a problem with a slip cover but my husband seems to think it's a problem and the dog would rather sleep on the soft fur. (GMAFB) LOL Any suggests are appreciated.

My next step is contacting Jackson Galaxy ( from My Cat From Hell) LOL

:28 Hi Froggie,

I've never owned cats and your entire story cracks me up, actually made me laugh out loud. Sorry. :)
I would go to a PetsSmart or Petco, find the oldest person who works there, and ask if they know. There has got to be a spray product that would help.

The top of the bed looks like soft sherpa material. I have to disagree with Mr. Froggie. I don't think your beagle gives a flip what it lays on. Put the slip cover over it and when the cat is gone (permanently) take it off -- you'll have a brand new bed.

LOL at Ginger's suggestion. :)

Furr balls.. almost certainly.. but perhaps something lodged in throat ( eg a piece of bone)... see a vet if you are worried.

I related tale of my girl Cerys who was very sick and getting worse.. fur falling out and she looked more and more awful. Lots of tests .. a specialist called in.. he even implied vet must be poisoning her with some medication.

All became clear when she eventually coughed up a LARGE wide rubber band. Had been lodged in her throat for weeks.. gradually leaking toxins which gave the appearance of poisoning. The Specialist was going to write a scientific paper on her.. but I never saw it. I had to mail him a bag of cat sick with rubber band. LOL

LOL....

glad you found out what it was...def not a bone...but she loves to eat my thread from sewing, or ribbon, but I have always seen that after she threw up...this looks like fur ball issue, maybe....will watch her and see if she continues,if so will take her to vet..she seems fine..but she grooms the kitty as well as herself....I remember I use to give my cats something for fur balls, put a lil on a spoon and they licked it off??..

I swear my animals make me crazy with worry as much as the grand-kids do...
