Eagle Baby Attack: Montreal Toddler Almost Snatched By Golden Eagle (VIDEO)

The Huffington Post Canada | Posted: 12/19/2012 12:30 am EST | Updated: 12/19/2012 12:30 am EST

http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/12/19 ... de=1899877

Eagles are majestic animals but would they ever go after a baby? One Montreal child got a real close call when a bird thought to be a golden eagle swooped down and almost carried the baby away.

A video posted to YouTube on December 18 showed the bird of prey swooping down and almost getting the child. The person shooting the footage can be heard swearing and running towards the child and guardian moments after the attack.

In slow motion it was revealed the eagle was able to lift the child off the ground several feet before dropping it and flying away.

Golden eagles can grow to a metre in length and have a wingspan of more than two metres. It usually feeds on small mammals such as rabbits or smaller birds. There have been reported cases of golden eagles killing or attacking the young of larger animals such as deer or mountain goats.

I worry about the hawks around here and my little dogs and seeing the eagle video brings the worry right back to the top.

The kitty mischief video is cute. A friend of mine has a cat that does not allow anything on her table. Cat knocks everything off. Doesn't do it any place else.

I live on the edge of rural land and we do see Harrier hawks circling farm land behind my house. Cats seem to be OK I guess the hawks prey on rabbits, rats and mice... as the cats themselves do.

That kid-snatching eagle video? Fake!

http://cosmiclog.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/12/19/16021454-that-kid-snatching-eagle-video-fake?lite=

Glad this is fake! There are sometimes hawks circling above when I'm walking my dog and it makes me very nervous for my little dog!

Filva and Vitamin are here to melt your hearts - and get you to visit Scotland.

One Shetland pony. That's Cute. Two Shetland ponies. Cuter still. Two Shetland ponies ... wearing woolly jumpers. That's the kind of cute that can break the internet.

Yes, Visit Scotland knows exactly to how to make the world say "awwww".

Fivla and Vitamin are the tourism body's official ambassadors for its Year of Natural Scotland campaign and will undoubtedly result in a huge influx of visitors.

And it's a good bet most will be heading for Thordale Shetland Stud Centre, where the two pony pin-ups are looked after.

The pair, who are wearing snug, custom-made "onesies" knitted from local Shetland wool in the pics, were chosen to show Scotland's softer, cuddlier side.

A spokeswoman from Visit Scotland: "With Shetland wool and knitwear being so in demand, it seemed like a fun way to celebrate Shetland's natural landscapes, products and heritage."

How adorable! I've never seen a pony in a sweater. I guess they got jealous of dog's wardrobes. :84

Holidaying cat nicks new wardrobe

CAT BURGLAR: 'Whitey', holidaying in Clyde from Invercargill,
has been helping himself to clothes from people's houses.

A woman from the Central Otago town of Clyde, concerned someone was breaking into her house and stealing clothes, has found the culprit: An old, deaf, white cat from Invercargill.

Sergeant Derek Ealson, of Alexandra, said the woman contacted police saying she would wake to find her folded washing piles disturbed and clothing missing.

However, a few days after reporting the matter to police she spotted a white cat stealing clothing items.

She went door-knocking in the neighbourhood and after some "great detective work" found the cat's home.

The cat's owners said they had noticed extra items around the house but were unsure what to do about it.

Mr Ealson said it was believed the pair were on holiday in the central Otago town from Southland and the cat had "gone a bit wild" after being brought along too.

"It's just a very odd cat," he said.

Another witness saw the cat climbing through a fence with a shoe in its mouth.

"Some people might be wondering where their tennis shoe went. Anyone who notices they are missing anything can contact Alexandra police."

The cat was not Southland's first feline kleptomaniac with Gus, a cat from Rosedale in Invercargill, making headlines in 2011 after stealing more than 60 shoes.

Gus, who was two-years-old at the time of offending, started innocently bringing home bark chips, leaves and newspapers, but shortly graduated to clothing, including some "interesting" items of underwear.

Zorro - no cat cage can hold him
BLAIR ENSOR
Last updated 05:00 14/03/2013

It was an escape that would have made his namesake proud.

Guards watched the plane on the tarmac at Christchurch International Airport while quarantine staff and their dogs searched everywhere for Zorro, but he had vanished without a trace.

The elusive domestic cat and his owner were due to arrive in New Zealand on March 3, but by the time the Singapore Airlines flight landed on the tarmac, Zorro was on the other side of the world exploring.

Airline spokesman Murray Wild confirmed to The Press yesterday it was investigating an incident where a cat travelling from Brunei to Christchurch went missing while in transit at Singapore Changi Airport on March 2.

The airline did not know how the cat managed to escape from its cage, slip past security staff and stroll out of the airport, he said.

However, Zorro was later found in Singapore's Changi Village, flown to New Zealand and reunited with his owner - understood to be a man who was teaching in Brunei.

"Talk about nine lives, I think it might have used up 20 of them," Wild said.

He declined to comment further while the incident was investigated.

A Ministry for Primary Industries spokesman said Zorro's empty cage was found in the hold of a plane at Christchurch International Airport by staff unloading luggage.

"We noticed the cat had escaped and checked out that it hadn't actually entered the country."

Quarantine inspectors hunted for Zorro inside the plane while other staff stood and guarded the exits to make sure he did not make a dash for it.

The search was eventually abandoned without causing delays to any flights, the spokesman said.

"My understanding is that it [cats escaping from their cages] is very rare - I haven't heard of any other incidents."

Zorro arrived back in New Zealand on March 10, was "doing really well" and would spend 10 days in quarantine, the spokesman said.

What a clever kitty. He probably figured out how to use his paws to open the lock. Probably heard how nice it was for cats in Singapore.

The ultimate Easter bunny: Heavyweight Ralph weighs 3st 8lbs (that's heavier than an average three-year-old child)

He eats a diet of cabbage, broccoli, corn on the cob, sweetcorn, half a cucumber, a carrot, half a bag of watercress, two sweet apples, two slices of brown bread and Weetabix with cream crackers EVERY single day.

A rabbit named Ralph has reclaimed his crown as the world's fattest Easter bunny after munching his way to almost FOUR stone in weight.

Hungry Ralph, aged four, held the title in 2010 before being overtaken by fellow Continental Giant Darius, who ballooned to three-and-a-half stone.

Owner Pauline Grant says Ralph, who is over three-foot long and weighs more than an average three-year-old child, now tips the scales at 3-st 8lbs.

Wow. I've never seen a rabbit that big. Reminds me of the Giant Mutant Monster movies I used to watch as a kid.

10 top reasons why it's good to be a dog!

1. If it itches, you can reach it. And no matter where it
itches, no one will be offended if you scratch it in public.

2. No one notices if you have hair growing in weird places
as you get older.

3. Personal hygiene is a blast: No one expects you to take a
bath every day, and you don't even have to comb your own
hair.

4. Having a wet nose is considered a sign of good health.

5. No one thinks less of you for passing gas. Some people
might actually think you're cute.

6. Who needs a big home entertainment system? A bone or an
old shoe can entertain you for hours.

7. You can spend hours just smelling stuff.

8. No one ever expects you to pay for lunch or dinner. You
never have to worry about table manners, and if you gain
weight, it's someone else's fault.

9. It doesn't take much to make you happy. You're always
excited to see the same old people. All they have to do is
leave the room for five minutes and come back.

10. Every garbage can looks like a cold buffet to you.

Seventy five to 100 horses were killed today on a horse farm in OK tornado. A vet is running around on a golf cart to euthanize any extremely injured horses. They had a race track there and an arena. Must raise and train some race and show horses. This is breaking my heart.

RIP :rose
