DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -About 60 cats, including several kittens, were received by Halifax Humane Society on Thursday after being taken from a Daytona Beach home.
The caretaker of the animals was working to provide a rescue program to help the cats, but she said the numbers grew too quickly.
“This was not a case of hoarding, just a Good Samaritan that got in over her head,” said HHS executive director Miguel Abi-hassan.
Halifax Humane Society, an open admission animal shelter already at capacity, said it's in desperate need of foster homes for the kittens, some of which are still bottle-feeding. The society is also looking to the community for adopters to provide happy homes for the cats.
As an added incentive to help find homes for the cats, the humane society is reducing adoption fees for all cats to $25 through Monday.
This $25 adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, a registered microchip and one month of free pet health insurance.
