For those of us Nort' of Da' Border it is becoming movie time for those summer nights. I just moved and tire on setting up the DJ stand with the stretchy screen etc. I was wondering what other's did to simplify set up and takedown. I just bought an Elite outdoor screen with grommets. I will attach a few grommet pins (from sailing) to the wall, I fortunately have an available Yamaha soundbar with a mount that I will attach below it and use a Da-lite projector table for the projector and Blueray player. I am considering weather proof outdoor speakers instead, probably the Bogen/NEAR system that the Chicago MTA just bought (have a connection for a good price).

Anyone else interested in the outdoor movie topic? If not, backyard BBQ?

Hi Lovemygirl... nice to see you back.

Glad you got some time off for good behaviour :)

Keep your nose clean and the rest of your sentence will seem to fly by. :lol

Thanks for contributing to "Hobbies" It seems a hard thing to get people fired up about. When I think about it I am online so much.. I don't do much else as a hobby. I used to.

Backyard movies are "alien" to me... not a NZ thing as far as I have heard.

We do have people NUTS on BBQ. (but not me)

It is pretty standard way of catering for friends and family gatherings. But I have never got too involved. Throw on a pile of sausages for economical bulk feeding... steaks if its more of a select group.

Back yard movies are simple if you have a yard of sorts. Movie projector, screen and speakers. Maybe backyard entertainment including fire pits, BBQ, cooking and even movies. I was just wondering if people wanted to share their tips, thoughts or just how they entertain themselves, guests and kids in the back yard during the warmer months.

NZ is certainly a land of "back yards"

Everybody aspires to a bungalow type house on a quarter acre section... that is changing slowly with some apartment blocks being built in Auckland. More people living in "Flats" or "town houses"... several units to one property.
But the urban spread is notorious. I believe Auckland is one of worlds largest cities (by area) but has tiny population (1.5 million) because everybody wants a house on a quarter acre. People do do BBQ and kids game in the backyard etc. Maybe some do the movie thing? but not that I experienced... it's more likely to be DVD and large screen TV.. or just plain loud music.

Oh, and I bought an HD projector for less than $1K, HD20 Optoma, weighs less than 5 pounds, maybe two. I prefer others but it was the first to hit sub $1K. For outdoor movies, sports etc, you don't need HD at all. I plan on watching the Hawks win the Stanley Cup with it too.

Looks great :)

Of course the problem I would have is.... I am a bit of a recluse.....party days are over I avoid family gatherings.

I'd be out there in the back yard by myself.... perhaps with the cats.. but my 3 don't seem to pay much attention to TV.
