Four Broward County Sheriff's deputies failed to enter Florida high school during shooting: Report
by Diana Stancy Correll | Feb 23, 2018, 5:22 PM

A total of four Broward County Sheriff’s deputies failed to enter Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., during last week's mass shooting, according to a new report.

On Friday, it was reported that Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy Scot Peterson, who served as the armed school resource officer, did not enter the school as the shooting occurred.

But Peterson wasn’t the only one — three other Broward County Sheriff’s deputies also remained outside the school with their pistols drawn as they took cover behind their vehicles, CNN reports.

Additionally, the Coral Springs police officers who arrived at the school later were frustrated and surprised that the sheriff’s deputies did not accompany them as they entered the school, sources told CNN.

It’s uncertain if the shooter was present in the building once the Coral Springs police reached the school.

MUCH debate about what to do to now to "curb gun violence"

Proposals for a NEW solution all miss the point.....

There was already GOOD (old) measures in place... but they were IGNORED

There are already LAWS/ background checks/ that SHOULD have seen Nikolas Cruz arrested/ blocked from owning a gun. The general public "did their bit" by recognizing and REPORTING a likely nut-job/ Mass shooter.

You don't need a NEW solution when you have not even utilized the old one :roll

If there are lessons to be learned from the Cruz shooting, and new measures to be put in place.... they are...

FIRE incompetent/ Cowardly/ liberal people from law enforcement (local and FBI)... follow the existing rules/ common sense in regards denying purchase of a gun AND in reacting to aberrant acting-out behavior

There you go, Rumpole, making perfect sense again. ;)

Why can't the POTUS and his people figure THIS out? Really.

They are going to spend all this time and money for naught. :doh

I haven't heard any news today, but wondering WHY the armed Broward Co. deputies stood outside and never went into the school halls? I'll check and see if you have postings.

:)

Good video. Not a big fan of Ben Shapiro but this video gave facts (I didn't know about) and his opinions. I like that.

I disagree with a few things Ben said... I am behind Dana Loesch 100% on what she said at CPAC about the media loving mass shootings. There is no doubt that CNN loves all tragedies, world-wide. RATINGS. I just hope Dana Loesch stays strong and doesn't back down on her beliefs.

I can not find this video on YT. Saw it on another ad-filled site and finally found it at NBC.

THIS took place the morning of the actual mass shooting. :eek

What happened in the 82 minutes between Nikolas Cruz's arrival and arrest during Florida shooting
By Kevin Sullivan, Samantha Schmidt, David A. Fahrenthold, WaPo | Chicago Tribune | February 15, 2018

[...]
In the classroom where Mackenzie Hill had been hiding, police broke through the door. As the officers were guiding students out, they noticed something odd: One of the students had put on a bulletproof vest.

The student said he'd been given the vest by his father, a police officer.

Even in the safest city in Florida, he'd brought it to school with him, just in case.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Florida school shooting suspect Nikolas Cruz was formally charged Wednesday with 17 counts of first-degree murder, which could mean a death sentence if he is convicted.

The indictment returned by a grand jury in Fort Lauderdale also charges the 19-year-old with 17 counts of attempted murder.

Cruz’s public defender has said he will plead guilty if prosecutors take the death penalty off the table, which would mean a life prison sentence. The Broward County state attorney has not announced a decision on the death penalty.

The State Attorney's Office announced yesterday that it would seek the death penalty. The POS couldn't even raise his head to say "not guilty" (he entered what is called a "stands mute" plea) so the Judge entered "not guilty" on his behalf. This should have taken all but 5 minutes. :roll

Parkland gunman's brother arrested for trespassing at Stoneman Douglas
Zachary Cruz went on campus to 'reflect on the school shooting,' deputies say
By Tim Swift | Local 10 News ABC | Updated: 8:46 PM, March 19, 2018

PARKLAND, Fla. - The brother of Parkland gunman Nikolas Cruz was arrested Monday after he went onto the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the Broward County Sheriff's Office said.

Zachary Cruz, 18, faces a charge of trespassing. Authorities had previously told Zachary Cruz to avoid the campus.

According to the arrest report, Zachary Cruz told deputies that he went to the campus to “reflect on the school shooting and soak it in.” Deputies said security cameras showed him riding his skateboard onto the school grounds, bypassing the campus' locked doors and gates around 4:30 p.m.

She Gave Nikolas Cruz an Ultimatum: The Gun Goes, or You Do. He Chose the Gun.
By ANEMONA HARTOCOLLIS and PATRICIA MAZZEIMARCH 20, 2018

Image

Five minutes before her close friend Lynda Cruz died last November, Rocxanne Deschamps stood by her hospital bed and promised to take care of Ms. Cruz’s two boys, who were also there to say their goodbyes. Then she moved the brothers into the mobile home park where she was living in South Florida.

One of them, Nikolas Cruz, would be out of the home in less than a month. Ms. Deschamps said on Tuesday that she had called 911 on him three times — once after finding a receipt for a gun and bullets in Mr. Cruz’s room, again after finding an empty gun box, and the third time after he punched holes in the wall and got into a fight with her son.

Finally, she gave Mr. Cruz an ultimatum: lose the guns, or leave the home. He chose the latter.

NEW: 2 students arrested for weapons, 1 made threats at Stoneman Douglas
By Hannah Winston | Palm Beach Post | March 20, 2018

PARKLAND -- One student is undergoing a mental evaluation after making threats on social media and two other students were arrested for bringing weapons to Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Tuesday, more than a month after 17 students and staff members were fatally shot by former student Nikolas Cruz.

On Monday, a unidentified 10th-grade student at the high school in Parkland was removed from class after investigators learned he had posted a photo of himself with a gun on the social-media app Snapchat, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.

The photo circulated around the school and said, “catch me out here (expletive).” The teen told investigators it was a BB gun in the photos.

The student will have a mental health evaluation before his is arrested on charges of disrupting a school function, the sheriff’s office said.

Additionally, the sheriff’s office said the student also goes by the gamer name tag “NickCruz” on Fortnite, a popular video game.

[...] At 9:30 a.m., 18-year-old Jordan Salter pulled out a 2-inch knife from her bra during a fight in the cafeteria with a boy. The fight started after the boy asked Salter’s friend if she performed a certain sexual act. The friend poured iced coffee on the boy and then Jordan poured cereal on him. Jordan told the boy to leave, but he got in her face, according to the sheriff’s office.

[...] At 2:30 p.m., a 16-year-old 10th grader was removed from class after another student said he had showed off the knife on a bus on Monday. Deputies found a 9-inch knife in the teen’s backpack Tuesday, according to the arrest report. The Palm Beach Post is not releasing his name because he is a juvenile, and it was unclear Tuesday if he is being charged as an adult.

Zachary Cruz, 18

Zachary Cruz, the younger brother of school shooter Nikolas Cruz, was arrested and booked into the Palm Beach County jail at 6:41 p.m. Tuesday.

According to a warrant that was placed Tuesday for Zachary Cruz’s arrest, he is accused of violating the terms of his probation.

Zachary Cruz, 18, was placed on six months of probation and a host of restrictions for trespassing at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. He was also ordered to stay at least a mile away from the Parkland high school he once attended and any schools unless he was enrolled.
