From LA Times...

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-veg ... story.html

Quote:
Charles "Sid" Heal, a retired Los Angeles County sheriff's commander and tactical expert, said the new timeline “changes the whole perspective of the shooting."

Heal said that if police had known immediately that a guard had been shot, they would have rushed the room while the gunman was still firing. He said it seemed to signal a breakdown in communication.

“It doesn't say much for hotel security,” Heal said.

After Campos was shot, a maintenance worker appeared on the 32nd floor and “Campos prevented him from receiving any injuries,” Lombardo said.

The LV local LE are beginning to look like idiots!!! (and/or liars)
It is quite ridiculous that info GIVEN OUT OFFICIALLY in press conferences is constantly be revised.
NOT in superficial ways... for instance the number of guns present... revised gradually up from 10. :doh

I am tempted to say that some senior agency (like FBI) need to take over the investigation.. sort through the crap and mis-statements by local LE.. and clarify the details. But.... I DO NOT trust the FBI either since Comey failed to see Clinton crimes etc. The FBI may already be part of the problem.

Based on the conflicting descriptions .. and ever-changing evidence... these dopes would be lucky to get a conviction if Stephen Paddock had survived to stand trial! :doh

I was about to post that same article. Just read it.

This is what jumped out at me.
    Quote:
In a news conference Wednesday, Lombardo said it was his “assumption” that Paddock stopped his shooting spree because the gunman, using his spy cameras, “observed the security guard, and he was in fear that he was about to be breached, so he was doing everything possible to figure out how to escape at that point.”
What a bunch of BS. They had "times" of everything happening THAT night.

This entire investigation (whoever is conducting it) is too weird.

It's difficult to believe anyone.

Sundance at CTH has a good article following the presser today....

Holy Cow – The Official Mandalay Bay Massacre Narrative Just Completely Changed – Latest Presser Video…

Well, well, well… the entire previous weeks claims about the timeline and structure of Stephen Paddock and how he carried out the Mandalay Bay Massacre just changed a full 180 degrees today when Sheriff Joseph Lombardo dropped a statement that Paddock did not begin shooting until his advanced preparation was interrupted by Mandalay Bay security officer Jesus “Jose'” Campos.

According to the latest stunning revelation by Sheriff Lombardo, security guard Campos was responding to a door alarm notification, presumably from a fire exit door being opened by suspect Paddock on the 32nd floor. Upon reaching the floor, Campos noticed the hotel room suite door was ajar, and heard the sound of drilling (he didn’t knock).

Paddock was drilling a hole in a door (“adjacent room”) when Campos walked in at 9:59pm. That’s when Paddock opened fire on Campos wounding him in the leg. Immediately thereafter is when Stephen Paddock broke out the windows and opened fire on the crowd below.

This latest revelation is explosive because it shows Paddock was interrupted in the act of preparing for the attack, and not during the commission of the attack itself.

This explains a great deal about the event and why so many advanced preparations appeared not to have been utilized. Unused ammunition, body armor, weapons etc.

This latest crucial bit of information is also explosive in that it may indicate there were other participants that might have been present, later, if the attack plan had proceeded without being interrupted by the security guard (the need for 23 firearms etc.).

Within these latest developments it is entirely possible that Paddock would have had a great deal more effectiveness in the overall attack if he had finished the preparation prior to carrying out the shooting.

The hurried need to carry out some level of the attack despite the interruption might also explain why Paddock just smashed out the windows to begin firing etc. He may indeed have had a much more substantive plan, but was forced to drop that approach by the unexpected interruption prior to the shooting.

This new information essentially changes everything. It is also most likely the reason why the LVMPD have stated they will not hold another presser until Friday.

The official story is getting sketchier by the day:

I am FED UP with all the "self congratulation" and praise and rationalizing how GREAT all the responding agencies and investigators are.

CLEARLY THEY ARE NOT THAT GREAT.

This analysis of what happened, and certainly the relaying of it, is CRAP!!!

They took 4 days to come out with a timeline.. which was just plain WRONG. And in many other details they have repeatedly put out false information and had to correct it.. sometimes over and over.

Besides all that it is a TOTAL WASTE OF TIME... to take time in a press release, or a TV interview to stress how fabulous everybody was.. and how they are working hard etc.

IF they really were doing a "fabulous job"... then it would NOT be necessary to keep telling us that??

At this stage nobody can trust anything they say.

They are doing a CRAP job publicly.. and if they are just as hopeless as they do the actual evidence gathering and analysis then they need a kick up the ass... and somebody competent needs to get a grip on this investigation.

Something that has bothered me from the start...

THE HAMMER!

My understanding is that windows in tall buildings use VERY THICK GLASS... "unbreakable".

Paddock is alleged to have broken two windows (quickly) with a little toy "sledge hammer".... really?

I recall Breaking the glass out of some old french doors.. ex industrial doors with wooden frame and some sort of "heavy duty" glass about twice as thick as regular glass (maybe hardened glass who knows?) I used a hammer very similar to one seen in Mandalay Bay photos.. and I had the doors flat on the floor, and was able to hit down with considerable force. THEY DID NOT BREAK EASILY!!!... It took all the force I could muster and many blows.

IF a person had not rehearsed that simple task.. how did he know that he could easily do that???

Ahead of this case I would have guessed that it would require a LOT of very heavy blows.. and even then I would not have been surprised to find the window would simply not break? I'd also be concerned, standing so close with little short hammer, that I might fall out the window (or been sucked out as pressure equalized)

Las Vegas shooter believed to have used hotel's freight elevator before attack
CBS/AP October 10, 2017, 3:02 PM
Last Updated Oct 10, 2017 4:55 PM EDT

Law enforcement sources told CBS News that Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock is believed to have used the freight elevator at the Mandalay Bay hotel casino in the days leading up to last week's deadly attack.

It wasn't clear what Paddock used the freight elevator for or how often he used it.

CBS News senior investigative producer Pat Milton reports authorities were continuing to comb through Paddock's electronic devices — including a laptop and cellphone — at the FBI crime lab in Quantico, Virginia. So far, none of the devices point to a motive for the shooting rampage.

Las Vegas shooter fired 'incendiary' rounds at fuel tank
By Kyung Lah and Scott Glover, CNN
Updated 2237 GMT (0637 HKT) October 10, 2017

(CNN) Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock fired special "incendiary" bullets at a 43,000-barrel fuel tank in what investigators believe was an attempt to cause an explosion, two law enforcement sources told CNN.
Those types of rounds, meant to ignite what they hit, were found inside Paddock's room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and near the fuel tank a short distance away on the grounds of McCarran International Airport, the sources said.

Authorities have previously disclosed that Paddock fired at the tank and struck it with two rifle rounds, when he opened fire on the crowd below from his 32nd floor hotel room on October 1. They had not disclosed that he used incendiary rounds to fire at the tank, which contains jet fuel.
The sources, briefed on the investigation but not authorized to speak publicly, said the incendiary rounds were recovered in an area near the tank.
It is unclear if the rounds that struck the tank were also of the incendiary variety. Chris Jones, an airport spokesman, said he was unaware of any rounds being recovered other than those that struck the tank.

There are a few new details in this article outlining an interview Tuesday with Sheriff Lombardo by "The Vegas Review Journal"

https://www.reviewjournal.com/local/the ... stigation/

  • Bellman helped with bags
On at least two occasions, a bellman helped Paddock bring bags up to his 32nd-floor suite.

  • Lombardo also said he was not aware of any video footage that may have shown Paddock driving into the desert near Mesquite to practice shooting his rifles, contrary to reports.

  • Doctors have begun Paddock’s autopsy, and as of Tuesday, an examination of his brain revealed no abnormalities, the sheriff said. He did not have any information about Paddock’s toxicology results.

  • Jesus Campos. The guard, who was not armed, was on the floor responding to a door left ajar when he heard the sound of drilling coming from Paddock’s room.
The guard was shot in the thigh, and though Paddock fired more than 200 rounds down the hall and into nearby rooms, no one else in the hotel was injured.

  • Lombardo added that both Danley and the shooter’s brother, Eric Paddock, have not been cleared of wrongdoing by investigators.

  • He expects to release more information Friday.

I was thinking. The small details that are contradictory and add up don't bother me as much as the big picture. This seems to be a Keystone Cop kind of investigation in a city that supposedly was ready for an ISIS attack. I'd like to see their standards of protocol.

In addition to what you have pointed out, Rumpole, the dried blood in the photo of Paddock lying on the floor is odd. With the new timeline, they found him one hour after his last shots. I'd like to know when the photo was taken.

Thanks for the new info. :)

TRYING to piece together the evidence I have been told about, and has stood the test of time (a day) .. which is reminiscent of herding kittens....

Campos was sent to investigate an OPEN (fire exit) door.
My guess is it was opened by Paddock as he worked on it to stop it opening. Paddock had returned to his room(s) by the time Campos arrived and Campos now found the door would not open.... and so alerted that fact and Schuck was dispatched. He found the door would not open also.
Here it gets hazy :roll
I assume Campos "heard drilling" (before Schuck arrived) and actually entered Paddock's suit... but by which door? There is a separate door from side bedroom to the hall. How did Campos get back out into the hall and avoid more than a single bullet in his thigh?
I am guessing that Campos staggered out of the side bedroom door.. seen by Schuck.. and took cover in some other door-alcove back down towards the elevators.... warning Schuck as he did that.
Then the hail of "200+ bullets" was fired by Paddock through the main entrance door.

As far as the question “Why did he stop” goes….

A 64 year old (unfit) bloke was likely WORN OUT after 10 minutes of lumping weapons around and firing 1000’s rounds. Lifting mutiple weapons as they (likely) jammed etc. Not to mention all the preparation activity just prior to the shooting outburst.

I noticed a post at CTH that made me realize I had not fully comprehended what was actually shown in the photo of the doors to Paddocks room. I didn't realize that it showed one door intact and the other lying on it's side just inside the room. And... the post I saw pointed out the the intact door does not have any bullet holes. That indicates to me that the RH door was open when Paddock fired "200+" bullets down the hall. Some through open doorway and some though the LH door itself.

Don’t know if this has been mentioned upthread but look at the photo of the suite’s double entry doors with the crime scene tape. The door on the left is lying on its side behind the door on the right, which is still on its hinges and intact. If the shooter sprayed over 200 bullets through the “door” at the security guard, how come none of those bullets seems to have pierced the door on the right?

And the food cart outside the RH door was still standing.

To be honest, I don't understand WHAT happened outside the door/in the hallway - the security guard, the maintenance man, other guests on the floor OR what happened inside his room - the drilling in the wall, breaking out floor-to-ceiling glass windows with a hammer, and especially the 200 rounds he shot BEFORE the sniper shots took place.

I don't remember which news conference it was, but when I read someone? said Paddock shot at the fuel tanks "as a distraction" I stopped paying attention to most of what is being released. I've tried to find legitimate videos explaining a few FACTS but haven't found any, and get distracted by what is out there.

NOTHING makes sense to me ... yet. :roll

The actual event etc all makes sense to me , Molly :cool

I just need to see a MOTIVE.

As things stand... with no motive.. or even mental issue.... the world has changed. ALL LE "psychological profilers" should be fired.

ALL the measures to stop terrorism should be abandoned.

The ONLY "conspiracy theory" aspect I will entertain is that Cops/FBI do have some idea of motive... and they are intentionally keeping schtum!! (for "political" reasons).

I know it does to you :roll

Just an example of how my comprehension skills are shot. Hope it becomes clear to me at some point.

In the meantime, I'll keep trying. ;)

Mee too. I believe the Cops/FBI know A LOT of pertinent information they aren't revealing, in addition to the motive. I'm sure those impacted by the event, especially the victims' families and the injured, would like some truthful answers.

Official says Vegas hotel didn’t immediately report gunfire
By Michael Balsamo | AP | October 12, 2017

Mandalay Bay hotel officials didn’t notify police about a shooting in a hallway inside the high-rise until after Stephen Paddock opened fire on the crowd at a country music festival outside, a federal official told The Associated Press on Thursday.

The disclosure means there may have been a delay of some six minutes in summoning police to the scene of what became the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

The official was briefed by law enforcement but wasn’t authorized to discuss the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.
