Woman still believes daughter's death wasn't suicide

Investigators say 2009 shooting death was suicide; mother cites inconsistencies

Published On: Apr 15 2013 03:21:30 PM EDT

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Angel King says her daughter's smile said it all about what kind of person she was. But it's just a memory. And the St. Johns County mother is seeking justice.

"She was a very kind-hearted person; very spiritual, very loving," King said.

Natasha Boykin was found dead -- shot in the chest -- in 2009 in her boyfriend's Jacksonville Beach home. Investigators say the 24-year-old committed suicide. But Boykin's family has never believed that. Now they're calling for police to reopen the case.

"The Medical Examiner's report right here doesn't support the crime scene photographs right here," King said. "The crime scene photographs indicate there was definitely a struggle, there was a fight."

Over the years, Boykin's mother has hired multiple experts to look over the case. Their reports cite inconsistencies, things like unexplained bruises and cuts on her body, apparent gunshot residue on her boyfriend, money missing from her wallet, and evidence her body had been moved.

One private investigator, R.L. Barnes, concluded, "It is my strong and qualified opinion that there are too many unanswered questions to have ruled this death a suicide."

Police have never called Boykin's boyfriend a suspect, but they do say he's the one who found her body and he's the one who owned the gun used in the shooting.

Still, all along they've said Boykin's death was a suicide.

Angela Corey's office demands $180,000 for a Public Records Request!
Wednesday, July 2, 2014

Natasha Boykin's mother, Angel King, has been trying to find justice for her daughter for the past five years. The office of Angela Corey, along with the usual suspects, aka, her staff, have stonewalled Angel since the night a relative of Angela Corey's hauled Natasha's body away in a tree and shrubbery service truck.

Finally, after five years of begging for them, Angela Corey's office emailed Angel to let her know the public records she had been requesting were now available...she's welcome to pick them up anytime, as long as she brings her checkbook and issues a check for $180,000.

You read that right, and it has been confirmed by Derek Kinner, a freelance writer for Folio Weekly. See much more of his story: http://folioweekly.com/BRING-YOUR-CHECKBOOK,10176

NEW: PI David Hodges Report on Natasha Boykin Case
Thursday, July 3, 2014

David Hodges is a private investigator for the mother of Natasha Boykin. Recently he gave an interview to The Daily Caller's, Chuck Ross. Below are excerpts from his article:

  • David Hodges, King’s lead private investigator, has compiled a list of 65 pieces of evidence which he says shows that Boykin did not shoot herself in the chest, and was instead shot by her boyfriend, who placed the 911 phone call reporting her death.

  • Gun powder residue was found on Boykin’s boyfriend’s arms while stippling was seen on his forehead in a police photograph. Boykin herself had no stippling or residue on her hands or arms, according to evidence compiled by King and her investigative team.

  • Boykin’s gunshot wound was not at point-blank range, as would be expected in a suicide. And there was evidence that her body had been moved after her death and that her clothes, including her underwear and her bra, had been manipulated.

  • Both King and Hodges told TheDC that Angela Corey said in a private conversation that if King took Boykin’s boyfriend to court for a civil wrongful death suit, he would be found guilty.

The seasoned investigator said he has been met with skepticism by some who think he is making his claims because he is getting paid.

Not true, he says. He is working for King pro bono.
