"Search for Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 set to go under water"
But not too far apparently.

Don't know why they are looking under the water though. They should be looking up North.

MH370 search: Object found on Australian coast wasn't from missing plane
By David Molko, Ed Payne and Mariano Castillo, CNN
April 24, 2014 --

Augusta, Australia (CNN) -- A metal object that washed ashore on Australia's coast wasn't from Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, officials said.

Detailed pictures of the object were enough to convince investigators that it wasn't a lead in the search for the missing plane, the Australian agency leading the search for the aircraft said on Thursday.

Officials had previously called the piece of metal, which appeared to have rivets on one side, an "object of interest" in the search.

Police picked it up near Augusta, Australia, roughly 1,000 miles away from the suspected crash site, after many futile days of searching for the missing plane.

Authorities haven't said what they think the object could be.

Possible promising leads have turned out to be false alarms for weeks in the lengthy search for the missing plane, which disappeared mid-flight on March 8 with 239 people aboard. One major challenge that's complicated the search: the ocean is full of garbage. Other objects search teams have spotted in the Indian Ocean turned out to be trash, jellyfish and fishing gear.

Bad weather grounded planes searching for signs of debris on Wednesday. And a high-tech underwater drone found no sign of the Boeing 777 jetliner.

If nothing turns up in the Bluefin-21's underwater search, the investigation will move into a new phase that could involve new equipment and an expanded search area.

And as the search came up empty again, a key question loomed: Are they looking in the right place?

MH370: Narrowed underwater search nears end as officials plan next steps
By Josh Levs, Holly Yan and Ben Brumfield, CNN
April 26, 2014

(CNN) -- The Bluefin-21's initial search is nearing its end. As the underwater sonar device plunged into the Indian Ocean, kicking off its 14th mission, authorities are focusing on what they will do if it comes up empty. That outcome would seem likely.

The Bluefin has slowly scoured 95% of the ocean floor that searchers had narrowed down for it. So far, it has found no trace of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.

Anticipation is growing as this phase of the search nears its end, but experts say factors like the depth and terrain of the search area mean that the mission's completion could be a day to weeks away.

If nothing is found, the first step, Australian officials said, may be to expand the search area where the submersible was looking.

The underwater search so far has focused on a circle with a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) radius around the location of a detected "ping," the Joint Agency Coordination Center said.

Is this MH370? US pilot believes he's found wreckage of missing airliner after searching through thousands of satellite images online - right where the flight vanished seven weeks ago

  • Michael Hoebel, from Tonawanda, New York spent hours trawling through pictures on TomNod.com, a website that shares satellite images
  • He has found images of what he believes to be the intact aircraft just off the northeast coast of Malaysia days after the crash
  • He has contacted the FBI and NTSB to share his findings
  • The search for the missing flight, which vanished on March 8, will now focus on the ocean floor, authorities have said

A pilot from New York believes he has found the wreckage of the missing Malaysia Airline Flight 370 off the coast of Thailand after searching thousands of satellite images online.

Michael Hoebel, 60, spent hours trawling through the images made available to the public on a crowd-sourcing website, TomNod.com, before coming across what he believes is the doomed plane.

The recreational pilot from Tonawanda said he was shocked to discover that the aircraft, which vanished two months ago, appeared to be in one piece beneath the water off the northeast coast of Malaysia, just west of Songkhla in Thailand. The image was taken days after the crash.

I hope that's not a hoax.

Doesn't look like a "hoax"... but its kinda not much more than a guess. It could be just cloud etc.

I am reminded of the underwater "photos of Natalee Holloway’s body"... and example of shapes in a photo being perceived as what ever we "want to see"... Pareidolia

It's still news in NZ, Australia, Malaysia and other Asian places. UK news sources do pick up on INTERNATIONAL news as well.

It is likely to fizzle out and never be solved

Aussie firm claims MH370 wreckage found, in Bay of Bengal
April 28, 2014

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — A marine exploration company based in Australia believes it may have found the wreckage site of Flight MH370 in the Bay of Bengal, some 5,000km north of an ongoing multination hunt for the missing Malaysia Airlines plane.

Australian news channel 7News reported today GeoResonance saying its research identified elements on the ocean floor in the Bay of Bengal consistent with material from a Boeing 777 plane, which matches the missing jetliner that disappeared in the early hours of March 8.

“We identified chemical elements and materials that make up a Boeing 777... these are aluminium, titanium, copper, steel alloys and other materials,” Pavel Kursa, a spokeman from GeoResonance was quoted saying.

GeoResonance’s company scientists reportedly searched two million square kilometres of the possible crash area with the use of over 20 technologies, including a nuclear reactor, to analyse satellite data and aircraft images to trace the missing Boeing 77-200ER’S last known location.

Who knows?

My guess (FWIW) is that the Ozzies were on to something with the Flight recorder pings... so its in that huge area somewhere :)

Post subject:  Re: Missing Malaysian Airways Flight MH 370

I find it a very "sobering" story. I don't think I have ever flown on Malaysia airlines? But I have been in and out of Kuala Lumpur airport a few times. My airline of choice has been Singapore Airlines. I don't want to over-react, but I am concerned about air crew (and passengers) who were perhaps not totally Kosher :eek

WHY are you concerned about air crew (and passengers) who were perhaps not totally Kosher?

Post subject:  Re: Missing Malaysian Airways Flight MH 370

Because it points to that same possibility on other planes, even other airlines from the same region.

I don’t want to say much more. It's just something to consider next time I travel.

You do not need to say much more.

Do you have anything prepared (like your last piece) that warrants being published on a broader scale. You have talent and views that deserves more attention.

Malaysian officials investigating Aussie company GeoResonance’s claims it may have found missing Malaysia Airlines MH370
April 30, 2014

Quote:
As for the wreckage claims by GeoResonance, Malaysian officials said they are assessing the information.

“We’re not trying to say it definitely is MH370, however we feel it is a lead that should be followed up by the authorities,” GeoResonance director David Pope told Channel 7 News.

The company used imaging, radiation chemistry and other technologies to search the 2 million square kilometres of the ocean floor for chemicals that are found in Boeing 777 jets, and discovered aluminium, titanium, jet fuel residue and other elements in the Bay of Bengal.

GeoResonance compared images taken on March 5 and 10 — before and after the plane’s disappearance — and found differences that could indicate a crash site.

The location is about 190km south of Bangladesh.

It is so wrong on so many levels to do this. When you are absolutely, 100 percent, swear on your great grandfather's grave, without any doubt whatsoever, certain.........then give us a report. Until then you are intentionally inflicting emotional stress on all of the families who had loved ones on board. Cruel bastards.
