One dead, One Baxter Springs Officer In Serious Condition After Set On Fire By Suspect
By KZRG | September 30, 2017

Update: One person is dead, and a Baxter Springs officer is in serious condition at a Springfield hospital after they were set on fire during a domestic disturbance call early Saturday morning.  Sheriff David Groves says the suspect broke into the home of 65-year-old Sharon Horn at 1007 W.11th Street in Baxter Springs just before 1:30 a.m and was physically assaulting her. She was able to call police, and once they arrived, the suspect doused her in fuel, two Baxter Springs officers, and subsequently himself before igniting a fire. Another officer was injured while trying to extinguish the flames. Groves gives News Talk KZRG an update on the condition of the victims.

“The female victim, the suspect, and one of the officers were transported to a Springfield hospital. The other two officers from Baxter were transported to a Joplin hospital were they’ve since been treated and released.”

Horn died of her injuries just before 7 a.m. The officer being treated at the Springfield burn unit is undergoing surgery and is listed in serious condition. Groves says the investigation is on -going and they are not yet releasing the names of the officers or the suspect.

3 boys killed, 1 injured when car jumps Las Vegas sidewalk
By Associated Press | October 1, 2017

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Three boys were killed and a fourth injured after they were run over on an east Las Vegas sidewalk by a driver who may have been trying to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed, police said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police didn’t immediately release the names Sunday of the three Las Vegas boys — ages 12, 13 and 14 — who all died at the scene of the crash at 9 p.m. Saturday.

A 13-year-old boy was injured and taken to a hospital. Police said he’s expected to survive.

The alleged driver of the car involved — Joseph Eskandarian, 28, of Las Vegas — was arrested early Sunday, about six hours after the crash near the intersection of Desert Inn and Theme roads, east of Nellis Boulevard, police said.

Police previously said the suspect driver would be facing numerous felony charges. It remained unclear if he was driving under the influence at the time of the fatal incident.

Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicate Eskandarian lost control of the unregistered car and it travelled down a sidewalk, striking a light pole before hitting the four boys, police said.

The vehicle struck another light pole and a tree before stopping. Witnesses told police they saw the suspect flee from the scene, jump a wall and shed clothing as he was running.

By ABC7NY | WABC - TV | October 4, 2017

UNION CITY, New Jersey (WABC) -- Three Union City police officers were hit and injured by a motorcyclist on Wednesday night.

It happened as the officers were investigating a teenage bicyclist that was hit by a garbage truck near Palisade Avenue and 30th Street around 9 p.m.

The teen was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Two motorcyclists were driving together and one struck the officers.

All three of the injured officers are expected to survive and their exact conditions are not yet known.

One of the motorcyclists fled the scene, while the other also crashed into the garbage truck that was involved in the initial accident.

That motorcyclist was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At this point, it's not yet clear which of the motorcyclists hit the officers.

Good grief. He was a Marion PD officer for two months, entered the training academy to become a State Police Officer. After the threat, he was kicked out of the academy after only four weeks, arrested, made bail and then Marion PD fired him.

I hope they are keeping a close watch on this guy. :roll

Family calls rifle, pressure cooker a misunderstanding in arrest near O'Hare
By Tony Briscoe | Chicago Tribune | October 8, 2017

Image

A Wisconsin man who was pulled over with an AR-15 rifle and a pressure cooker near O’Hare International Airport over the weekend appeared in court Sunday on a felony gun charge.

Santos Zamora, 32, of Sheboygan, Wis., stood before Cook County Judge John Lyke on aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after a routine traffic stop Saturday sparked a counter-terrorism investigation, according to prosecutors and police.

Around 8 a.m. Saturday, Chicago police stopped Zamora on Cumberland Road near the Kennedy Expressway after driving 20 mph over the speed limit, prosecutors said. During the traffic stop, an officer noticed Zamora had a black gun case in the front passenger seat of the car, according to the police report.

Zamora informed the officer he had a 45-caliber handgun between his feet and an AR-15 rifle in the trunk, the police report said. Officers also recovered a pressure cooker in the trunk of Zamora’s 2005 Mitsubishi Galant, according to court records.
[...]
Zamora, who did not have an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification card, was arrested without incident. He also faces traffic violations for speeding and driving without insurance.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — The Latest on a shooting at the Texas Tech University Police Department headquarters (all times local):

10:10 p.m.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott says he has mobilized state law enforcement resources to help Lubbock and Texas Tech University police investigate the fatal shooting of a campus police officer.

University officials say a 19-year-old Tech student in custody is suspected of killing the officer Monday night at the campus police headquarters.

In a statement, Abbott also says he offered condolences to Texas Tech University Chancellor Robert Duncan. He also says “hearts go out to the family of the police officer killed” and added he and wife Cecilia, “pray for the continued safety of the students and the entire community.”
[...]
University spokesman Chris Cook says campus police made a student welfare check Monday evening and found upon entering the room evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia. Cook says officers brought the suspect to the campus police station for standard debriefing.

During this time, Cook says the suspect pulled out a gun and shot an officer in the head, killing him.

By Chantal Bevard | KSDK.com | October 12, 2017

ST. LOUIS - A 54-year old detective with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department is recovering after being shot while sitting in his car in south St. Louis early Thursday morning.

The detective was part of a stolen vehicle investigation near Cherokee and Jefferson when the shooting occurred around 1:20 a.m.

He has not been identified, but interim police chief O’Toole says he’s a 25-year veteran with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. It’s unclear what led up to the shooting. The officer did not fire his weapon.

The officer was transported to St. Louis University Hospital and is listed in stable condition.

St. Louis detective shot in shoulder was following car he'd loaned to relative who didn't return it
By Kim Bell and Christine Byers St. Louis Post-Dispatch 4 hrs ago
UPDATED at 3:30 p.m. Thursday with additional information

A St. Louis police detective shot in the shoulder early Thursday was fired on as he followed his own vehicle, which he had loaned to a family member who didn't return it, police said.

Interim Police Chief Lawrence O'Toole said the officer, 54, was stable at St. Louis University Hospital after the 1:20 a.m. shooting. Police were looking for at least two suspects in the crime.

Officers found the car in the 3400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue Thursday afternoon and took a 35-year-old man into custody, but said they are still trying to determine whether the man has any connection to the shooting. Police confirmed that the officer's family member, who originally took the car and did not return it, was not involved in the shooting.

Police said shortly after the shooting that the detective was investigating a stolen vehicle. But they later said it had not been reported stolen to police. Instead, the detective had been on the lookout for the vehicle after a relative he loaned it to several days earlier failed to return it.

Another officer had spotted the vehicle in the area of Alberta Street and South Grand Boulevard, police said. That officer told the detective, who was on duty, about seeing the vehicle.

The detective — in an department-owned but unmarked white Dodge pickup — began following the car on Iowa Avenue. Near the intersection of Iowa Avenue and Miami Street, "at least two suspects emerged and fired shots at the officer, striking him in the shoulder," police said.

The shooters fired more than a dozen shots at the officer, a source said.

It isn't clear whether the shooter or shooters knew the man in the truck was a police officer. Police did not provide detailed descriptions of the gunmen.

O'Toole said the injured detective was able to get out of the area quickly after being shot. The detective went to the area of Cherokee Street and South Jefferson Avenue and called for help. A police officer came and took him to the hospital.

O'Toole said the detective never fired his weapon.

Gun painted like Nintendo 'Zapper,' 17 other weapons found at home of St. Louis County rape suspect
By Robert Patrick | St. Louis Post-Dispatch | October 12, 2017

ST. LOUIS COUNTY • A felon was caught with 18 guns, many with high-capacity magazines, amid a rape investigation that began last month, the North County Police Cooperative said.

Darkel Deshay Martin, 31, originally caught the attention of police when a woman said he’d entered her home in Charlack on Sept. 27 without permission and sexually assaulted her, charging documents say. Martin has addresses in Charlack and East St. Louis in court records.

During the investigation, members of the North County Police Cooperative and agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives found Martin, police said. Martin consented to a search of his home, and police and agents found 18 firearms and a bullet-resistant vest. Two were AR-15-type pistols, police said, and both had 100-round drum magazines. One pistol was painted to resemble a light gun — a Nintendo “Zapper” — that is used with a video game system. Two were equipped with what resembled silencers or suppressors, although they were unlikely to function as such, police said. A Glock pistol was equipped with accessories that made it resemble a machine pistol like a MAC-10.
[...]
Martin was charged Sept. 28 in St. Louis County Circuit Court with burglary, second-degree rape, armed criminal action and a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Last week, St. Louis County prosecutors sought to revoke Martin’s bond, accusing him of threatening the alleged victim in the rape case. He failed to show up in court and failed to attach a GPS tracker required by the court, and a warrant was issued for his arrest Wednesday.

I missed this during the LV shooting weekend. :( The officer was killed after responding to a disturbance at a convenience store. His services were last week. Hope the POS is found hanging in his jail cell. He's already been indicted by a grand jury and had several hearings.

Slain New Orleans officer identified as Marcus McNeil, joined force in 2014
By Richard A. Webster | NOLA.com | October 13, 2017

Image

The New Orleans Police Department has identified the officer killed in New Orleans East early Friday morning (Oct. 13) as Marcus McNeil.

McNeil, 29, was hired by the department in August 2014 and sworn in as an officer April 2, 2015, according to police records. He was assigned to the Seventh District, which covers New Orleans East, and had worked there since July of 2015.

McNeil is survived by his wife and two children, ages 5 and 2, according to NOPD. He graduated from St. Augustine High School, where he played tuba in the band, in 2006. He later graduated from Dillard University with a major in accounting, said his uncle, Joseph Gilyot, 53.

Gilyot said his nephew "loved every minute" of his time with the police department. "It was almost like he felt like a superhero," he said. "He wanted to go out and save the city. He truly loved his job."
[...]
Friday's shooting occurred about 12:15 a.m., near Cindy Place and the Interstate 10 Service Road. NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said four officers were patrolling the area when they "saw something that aroused their suspicion," and caused at least one of the officers to exit a police car.

When one or more officers got out of the car, a gunman opened fire, striking McNeil "several times," and causing him to collapse at the scene, Harrison said. At least one officer returned fire, striking the gunman. The chief said the gunman was shot several times.

McNeil was taken by EMS to University Medical Center, where Harrison said doctors pronounced the officer dead. No other officers or civilians were shot, said Harrison, who addressed reporters shortly before 4 a.m. from outside the hospital.

The suspect, after hiding inside an apartment, ultimately surrendered to a SWAT team, Harrison said. The accused gunman was then taken to a hospital where he was placed under arrest while being treated Friday morning.

The officer in Lafayette, Officer Middlebrook, is one of our men. My city is a bedroom community of Lafayette.
That shooting happened the same night or early morning hours of the LV shooting.

His funeral was televised locally. Very, very sad. He would pick up the sandwiches, at a local business, that
were due to be thrown out at midnight every night (as per the procedure for that business) and pass them out
to the homeless that were on the streets. EVERY NIGHT.

Officer Middlebrook was responding to an aggravated battery call in a bad part of town. Drug activity, murders
all of the usual that goes on in the ghetto part of town.

Molly, thank you for fleshing out my post about N.O. I don't know how to do bold and all of that. or make the pics
appear. I have tried, but just not there yet.
