Coronavirus: Ted Cruz in self-isolation after shaking hands with man later diagnosed
By Ashraf Khalil And Michael Balsamo The Associated Press
Posted March 8, 2020 8:33 pm
Updated March 8, 2020 8:35 pm

WASHINGTON — GOP Sen. Ted Cruz said Sunday he will remain at his home in Texas after learning that he shook hands and briefly chatted with a man in suburban Washington who has tested positive for coronavirus.

In a statement, Cruz said he met the man 10 days ago at the Conservative Political Action Conference in suburban Oxon Hill, Maryland. The Texas Republican said he’s not experiencing any symptoms and feels fine and has been advised by medical authorities that the odds of transmission were extremely low.

Yet, Cruz said, out of an abundance of caution he will remain at home in Texas until a full 14 days have passed since the interaction. He said medical authorities advised him that those who have interacted with him in the last 10 days should not be concerned about potential transmission.

A Kiwi man is awaiting coronavirus test results after returning to New Zealand from a New York raceway where a worker died of the disease.

But John Curtin is philosophical about the possibility he has contracted Covid-19 and says he is not scared.

On Thursday, shortly after he was tested in Papakura, the 68-year-old told Stuff he was feeling better and in good spirits after becoming so sick he could hardly walk earlier in the week.

The above guy now 6th case...

Sixth case of Covid-19 coronavirus in New Zealand confirmed
16 minutes ago

Waitemata DHB chief executive Dale Bramley announced this afternoon that a man who returned home from the United States of America on 6 March has been confirmed as having the virus.

The man heard a friend in the US was infected with Covid-19 and went to a GP on Thursday. Tests from Auckland City Hospital showed he was positive for the virus last night.

He was currently doing well at home and his wife was in self-isolation.

Other close contacts were beng followed up by the Auckland Regional Health Service and would be asked to go into self-isolation.

The man had attended an 8.30am church service at St Mary's Church in Papakura and some people from that service would be followed up as close contacts.

The man is in his 60s and started feeling unwell on Monday.

Another probable case at North Shore Hospital had been sent home and was doing well, Bramley said.

Coronavirus: Everyone travelling to NZ from overseas to self-isolate
14 Mar, 2020 5:18pm

Image

KEY POINTS
  • Effective from midnight Sunday, all travellers, except for those coming from the Pacific islands, will have to self-isolate for 14 days on their arrival to New Zealand
  • The PM says the rules are the toughest in the world
  • She told New Zealanders not to travel overseas if they don't have to and issued stark advice: no hugs, hongi or handshakes
  • All cruise ships have been asked to not come to NZ until June 30
  • There will also be further announcements on mass gatherings

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced all travellers will have to self-isolate on their arrival to New Zealand, apart from those coming from the Pacific Islands.

She said the measures - in effect as of midnight Sunday - include New Zealanders.

The restrictions will be reviewed in 16 days and there will be more advice for self-isolation next week. There were already clear guidelines for employers on sick pay and working-from-home advice.

It will be the strictest border restriction rules in the world, Arden said.
