Secretariat Belmont Stakes 1973 & extended post race coverage

Every time I see this it takes my breath away. I've read a lot of history on this amazing horse.

It was exciting as usual. Big payoffs. We shall now see what Orb does in the Preakness.

Thanks MBTB....

Just got reminded Preakness was today

The friend who inspired a bit of interest back in 2009 was a fan of the Filly...Rachel Alexandra... who WON!!

I know that Fillies have only won 5? times....So with no idea at all I would pick any filly that is running :)

As far as I can see there is no filly in today's line up?

"SECRETARIAT" Greatest Race Horse of All Time - Kentucky Derby Preakness Belmont Stakes 1973 Video

I still can't get over this. Secretariat never passed his over-sized lungs and heart genes to any of his fowls. Too bad.
He was like a locomotive. He ran faster and faster the longer he ran.

Filly

Orb: Continuing Ruffian's Legacy

The champion seemed to exist for just a fleeting moment. The stunning speed she exhibited nearly made it seem as if her life was that much shorter. But her brilliance was so intense that her impact can still be felt in the Thoroughbred community. Stories of the strikingly beautiful, near-black filly that captured America’s heart have been passed down throughout the years since her departure, leaving those that missed their opportunity to experience Ruffian’s reign to daydream of the Queen of the Fillies, reflecting on what could have been.

Rump, have you ever heard of Phar Lap? He was a champion in your neck of the woods. Check this out. There is a movie of this beautiful horse. It's called "Phar Lap".

Yes... Phar Lap... is part of NZ folk law... the country is VERY big on horse racing.. and breeding thoroughbred horses.

"Rugby racing and Beer" is what supposedly defines a NZ male :)

I just never really got over interested in horse racing.... 2 out of 3 aint bad :lol

Too bad I didn't bet on this horse race. :stamp The 3 horses I liked the best came in win, show and place!

I just missed the race, but saw the results after I picked my favs. I picked Oxbow to win, Mylute to place (result: show) and Itsmyluckyday to show (result: place) .

When I was a teenager, my mom, uncle and aunt took me to the races and I chose the horses for my uncle. He made a bundle. The people sitting near us started asking me who I was picking!! I had a knack for it for a while, not sure why?

I should go to a track sometime. There are a few less than an hour away from where I live. Image
