I never bet on horse races... other than say a sweepstake at work for fun...

My Dad was big on betting... but kept it under control... used to attend horse races .. later it was made easy with phone betting at "the TAB" ... government controlled gambling on horse races.. now expanded to all sorts of sports betting

I've hardly ever gambled. Only did it because my relatives took me. We also went to Atlantic City a lot, but I preferred walking from casino to casino to look at the gorgeous decor of the casinos while they were gambling. I didn't have fun losing money.

I've never been to any of the casinos or racetracks in South Florida.

American Pharoah Wins Belmont Stakes and Triple Crown

New York Times
By MELISSA HOPPERT | JUNE 6, 2015

American Pharoah, the flashy colt with the smooth stride, won the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in a generation and etching himself in the history books.

Since 1978, when Affirmed swept the three races, 13 horses had won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. But none of them won the Belmont.

On Saturday, American Pharoah broke that 37-year jinx. He now enters the pantheon as the 12th Triple Crown winner, joining Sir Barton (1919), Gallant Fox (1930), Omaha (1935), War Admiral (1937), Whirlaway (1941), Count Fleet (1943), Assault (1946), Citation (1948), Secretariat (1973), Seattle Slew (1977) and Affirmed (1978).

Yes, it was and what a gorgeous horse!

Very exciting after all the hours of built-up hoopla :)

Although, I do like watching the pre-race ceremony. :77

After the recent years of getting hopes up for nothing American Pharoh came through!

Seems like a dozen have come and gone since Affirmed, Seatle Slew and Secretariat so close together. Was an exciting race. Everyone knew American Pharoh was going to set the pace no one knew once he started letting go he'd leave Frosted so far behind. Doubt it will get much press but Keen Ice placing third was a thing of beauty. Once he dropped back to 6th as the pack broke the last thing I expected was to see him pull forward like it was the final turn of a mile track.
