Thought I'd check and get a link to Philadelphia Police, just in case. :roll

The game isn't even over and they are trending, top, in the nation.

You're welcome. :83

Yeah, I know what you think about the clock stopping and all. lol
Clock management by a coach is a big deal.

NOW if the Cowboys ever make it to the Super Bowl again, and coincidentally if I win the lottery around that time, and we fly you and the Mrs over to attend, you'll know what it's all about. ;)

I thought of more rules questions....

Can the team on attack.. pass the ball multiple times before the quarterback chucks it?
Are there any rules about forward passes (I guess not)?
Can the receiver then pass it to other players?
Even chuck it again to another receiver further up the field?
Can players actually KICK (football) the ball (to a receiver) to gain territory?

No one can kick the ball except the punter to other team and field goal kicker.

Only certain players on offense can pass the ball to another. Quarterback can pass forward at all times OR pass to a "back" (i.e. running back) and that back can forward pass to a receiver (happens often as a trick play).

While running a play (after receiving handoff or toss from QB) the running back can make a lateral pass (parallel to or away from the opponents' goal line) and receiver can pass it again backward and on and on. This is seen as a desperate last play, and it has worked for a touch down.

If the ball is intercepted or a fumble is recovered by defense, the ball can be passed behind many times until the player with the ball is down.

THX

I have a cunning plan.... slip 2 top class rugby players (backs) into a US Football team... as receivers or running backs or whatever... I am sure they could catch the ball.. pass it between the two of them and score touchdowns at will :cool

That'll work. We obviously need some rugby kickers... and they don't have to play, just kick. ;)

When you have time this is a pretty neat vid of Lateral Touchdowns by various teams. Not the best quality but there is a neat Interception/Lateral Pass/Defensive TD and there's a Multi Lateral TD, passed four or five times. (3:38min)

I didnt see much need for kickers?

They mostly do girly kicks right in front of the posts and close... and it's not a big part of the scoring anyway :cool

The start of play... with people banging into each other, resulting in most of the players in a heap is just silly.

That results in a quarterback free to chuck the ball.. and one or two players from each team up field and free to play.. or tackle.

The big thugs back at the start are not gonna get up in time to take much part in the rest of the play... so it's a bit like a "Rugby sevens" game... more like Rugby 3's perhaps.

ETA
I watched the vid... yeah... that sort of thing :)

I see discussion about injuries to football players.

It seems to me that it's the helmets and body Armour that CAUSE the injuries?

Has anybody tried playing the game without all that crap? There would need to be some rules about "tackling" as opposed to shoulder charges... but the physicality of the game does not look any worse than Rugby... with no Armour... and few injuries

ETA
If the game were played without helmets... some of the "Woolly Mammoths" would need a proper haircut :roll
Which would be a BONUS!

IKR, can you believe how close they stand and almost center? BUT, when you are behind by 2 points with seconds left in the game, and you've only made it to the 40 yardline, the field goal gets exciting. Especially if the kicker's record is 52 yrds and he needs 53 yrds to make it. Have seen a million field goal kickers win AND lose a game. So they have a lot of weight on them.

The receivers up field can not be tackled. He can't be touched unless the other player is also trying to catch the ball AT the exact same time.

You saw the two best teams (out of 30) play. The Patriots quarterback is one of the best ALL TIME, so that's why he was able to pass like that. The Eagles don't have much in pass rushers, players trying to sack the QB. BUT the Eagles have the best running game.

You may enjoy a pitiful team play a good team at the beginning of the season. Like San Francisco 49ers who were 2-14 the last year Kaepernick played. LOL Then you could see some silly playing. Lots of sacks, fumbles, interceptions and fights. :)

I'm very happy you took an interest in the Super Bowl. :cool

Yeah... I can see that the fans would like the game.... fans like all sorts of games :roll

Personal preference and what you grow up with etc....

The TIME thing is a killer for me.... more of an "American" thing I guess... lots of timeouts.

Sorry to harp on about Rugby... but it just seems like more of a "proper" sport :)

2x40 minute halves. :roll

Rugby fans moan like hell if play is held up at all... even for just a minute.

ETA
The thing about Rugby (and cricket) at the very top level is.... it's INTERNATIONAL.

HISTORICAL Rivalries between COUNTRIES is a big part of the whole emotional feeling and interest. I think more so than rivalry between States, especially with fans and players moving between states. :)

LOL, didn't think you are harping on Rugby. I like the speed and game of Rugby too.

Funny ... when there was an injury on the field, I told Chris "I better tell Rumpole that we stop the clock when there's an injury." He still cracks up from that time I saw an injury on field in Rugby. LOL I was yelling at him to "come and look at this, a player is down and they are still playing".

:)

They do stop the clock for serious injury in Rugby.. if it requires treatment on field, or player taken off...... but mostly AFTER the current piece of play has ended anyway :)

Injured players are expect to get off the field promptly. They can bring on a temporary replacement for BLOOD BIN injury... they have to mop up the blood and maybe bandage heads :)
