There are a couple of spots near where I live. I already knew much of Xena Warrior Princess was filmed in outdoor locations near here.

The Last Samurai, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, 30 Days of Night, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Bridge to Terabithia, Whale Rider
Henderson Valley Studios, Hickory Avenue, Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand

The Piano shows studio address:Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand
But that too used outdoor locations around West Auckland beaches

I loved the first Narnia! I haven't seen the sequel(s) yet. I didn't know that it was filmed in NZ, but I should have. The locations were so beautiful! Legend of the Seeker (the 2 season tv show, which ironically, never aired in NZ) was also filmed there, but I'm not sure if it was filmed in the North Island or South. I started watching it because the beautiful scenery caught my eye. When I saw Lord of the Rings (filmed in Southern NZ), I thought it was one of the most beautiful places in the world.

I haven't clicked on that link yet, but I know of 2 movies filmed where I live(d).

The first is the 1994 movie "I.Q." starring Meg Ryan, Tim Robbins and Walter Matthew (as Albert Einstein Image). Parts of it were filmed on location in Princeton, NJ, where I was working at the time. My friend, a fellow movie buff, found out that they were holding an open casting call for extras, so we went!!! I remember standing on line, then being ushered into an auditorium. The extras Casting Director, Marshall Peck (IIRC), gave a speech and then had each row of people come to the front and looked us over and then we sat back down. I think that if he saw what he was looking for, he would give an indication and those people would move on to filling out papers or for questioning or something. I remember this because my friend and I were heartbroken that we weren't picked! Image (And we pouted a lot and stomped our foot :62) We wanted to be in a movie and this was our big break!!!!! :31 Anyway, he gave another speech to the unchosen ones that it wasn't personal, he was just looking for a certain look/type. The reason I remember his name after all these years? On our way home, my dear, sweet friend kept calling him Marshall Prick. :13 Image

Anyway, my friend's friend was a Nanny, who also adored movies. Somehow, she found out where they started filming and became friendly with some of the crew. She wound up going to the locations everyday (with the kid in tow). She'd tell us all these stories (like that Meg Ryan kept getting pissed off at Walter Matthew because he was acting like a "dirty old man" Image). :84

The other one that was filmed close by is the 2005 movie "In Her Shoes" starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette, and Shirley MacLaine. The scenes that took place at the retirement home in Florida were filmed extremely close by to where I live. I drove by every morning and every evening on my way to work. Again I was foiled. Image The community was gated and they had security posted on the outside, where they had all kinds of vans, trucks and food stations (for the crew, I guess). I did think about maybe walking my incredibly gorgeous, lovable Collie past the set, Image hoping that at least HE would be "discovered" and put into the film, but they way security looked at me as I verrrrrrry slowly drove by and gawked each day made me reconsider!
