From The Washington Post:

NEW YORK — The Rolling Stones will join the artists already booked for next week’s televised Superstorm Sandy benefit show in New York City, which producers said Friday would be the most widely available live concert ever.

The Stones join a trio of 1960s British rock royalty on the bill, including Paul McCartney and the Who. Among the other artists scheduled to appear are Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Alicia Keys, Kanye West, Eric Clapton, Eddie Vedder, Billy Joel, Roger Waters and Chris Martin.

The “12-12-12” concert at Madison Square Garden will be available on television or online to some 2 billion people, said James Dolan, one of the producers. A total of 34 U.S. television networks have agreed to show the concert, which begins at 7:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday.

Coincidentally... Today's Blog by Jeralyn at TalkLeft:

Might be a preview of what to expect on Wednesday

Saturday Open Thread: Rolling Stones at Barclays Center Tonight
By Jeralyn, Section Blog Related

The Rolling Stones are doing their soundcheck for tonight's performance at Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.

Don't forget you can watch the December 15 performance live on pay per view -- $40 for HD, $30 otherwise (at least on Xfinity/Comcast.)

The Stones have put an amazing quantity of songs from live shows, even full concerts, on You Tube. With one of those blue-ray/smart tv devices, you can easily watch You Tube videos on your big screen TV (as well as Netflix and Amazon Prime.) This is the one I got, (Sony $89), it's 1/3 the size of my old blue-ray player, the wi-fi is built in.

You can sign into your you tube account on the TV and the watchlist you made on the computer comes up, so you don't have to search all over for your videos. Amazon and Neflix have your watch list too, as well as full listings in case you feel like watching something new but don't want to log on to the computer.

Every cable service seems to be carrying the Stones on Pay per View. If you want to see them before then, the Stones have joined the Dec. 12 Hurricane Sandy benefit. It will be broadcast to almost 2 billion people worldwide in theatres, on TV and streaming on the Internet.

Here's how to watch.

The Stones, Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi, The Who, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and more, all in one show, and it's free (but please make a donation to the Sandy victims.)

Yes, Sir Paul again, but it is for a good cause and the performers are performing for free. Image

Eric Clapton was a-effing-mazing! His guitar playing is as good as it ever was! He has no equal IMHO. I hope someday to be able to see him in concert.

We just heard 2 lovely songs by the talented and beautiful Alicia Keys (and her piano). I was hoping should would do 'Empire State of Mind' or 'Fallin', but at least she sang 'No One'!

Update: Alicia returned to perform 'Empire State of Mind' to close out the show.

The Who just performed a mini concert of 6 or so songs. Roger Daltry took his shirt off, Pete Townshend windmilled and said the "f" word, and they even did a number with Keith Moon! They were really great! (I just wish that Clapton and The Stones were onstage as long!)

"The Piano Man", Image Billy Joel is fabulous, as usual. I forgot how "New York" his lyrics are. So appropriate for this benefit!

Chris Martin of Coldplay just finished. I love the sound of his voice! He did a surprise duet with Michael Stipe of R.E.M., who I was a fan of when I was in my 20's.

Sir Paul came on stage... obviously the big name final act.... so I was wondering what the heck happened to the David Grohl promised?

It was clearly NOT him playing drums for Paul?

Paul did "Helter Skelter" which was great... he can still get away with shouty rock numbers... but oh my he just had to do "Blackbird" which exposed his faltering voice... great ballad as Paul sang it back in the day...

I was beginning to wonder if Dave Grohl would run on stage just for last second of the concert in the same way the The Great Prophet Zarquon appears in the last second as the Universe ends in Hitch Hikers Guide to The Universe??

It turns out.... Paul has been jamming with Dave Grohl and friends.. and so was able to do a "Nrvana" reunion with Paul playing the part of Kurt Cobain
