Courtney Love against Paul McCartney in Nirvana
4:56 PM Thursday Dec 13, 2012

Courtney Love is reportedly "not amused" at Paul McCartney jamming with the surviving members of Nirvana.

The Beatles musician will take the stage with former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, who is now a member of the Foo Fighters, and bassist Krist Novoselic, at the 12.12.12 Hurricane Sandy benefit concert at Madison Square Garden in New York City today.

Love, who was married to the band's frontman Kurt Cobain, told gossip site TMZ.com she was "not amused" at the pairing.

"Look, if John [Lennon] were alive it would be cool," she added.

Love was reportedly upset at Novoselic and Grohl calling tonight's show a Nirvana reunion as she believes Cobain was the heart and soul of band.

The concert will be the first time Grohl and Novoselic have played live together in almost 20 years, following the death of Cobain in 1994.

Novoselic appeared on the last Foo Fighters album.

McCartney is elated about the historic event.

"I phoned Dave and he invited me to come over and jam with some mates," McCartney told British newspaper The Sun.

"I didn't really know who they were. They are saying how good it is to be back together. I said, 'Whoa? You guys haven't played together for all that time?

"And somebody whispered to me 'That's Nirvana. You're Kurt.' I couldn't believe it."

McCartney, Grohl and Novoselic will be sharing the stage with Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Alicia Keys, Kanye West and The Rolling Stones.

The show is expected to make history as the most widely distributed live musical event ever, with two billion people around the globe expected to tune in to the fundraiser.

Sir Paul and Nirvana performed a new song they wrote together while they were jamming. It's called "Cut Me Some Slack", which hopefully Courtney Love will do! My co-worker thinks Paul did a great job filling Kurt's shoes. There aren't many full length videos of the concert on YouTube yet, probably because they are going to sell copies of the show for charity, but this performance is available and you can judge for yourself:

That was a great song... I assumed it was an old Nirvana song?

Sir Paul would be OK... doing rock numbers and not trying to redo delicate old Beatles and Wings vocal ballads.

Maybe a new "Super Group" like "Them Crooked Vultures" ?

I thought it was too and searched the internet last night for it! All day we were talking about the concert at work and a co-worker told me that it was a brand new song, so I googled it. When they got together to jam, it was assumed that they would do either a Nirvana song or a Beatles song, but neither of them wanted to do that, so they wrote a new song on the spot!!! I was so busy being shocked that Paul (PAUL!) was "filling Kurt Cobain's shoes", that I didn't appreciate the song or his performance when I first heard it.

I love that Queens of the Stone Age song. I keep forgetting Dave Grohl is in the band!

I was reading news stories about the concert and one mentioned that Dave Grohl looked just like "Animal" the Muppet drummer! (He does...and that's a compliment!) Hell of a drummer, isn't he?

Having watched a doco about Foo Fighters.... Grohl went off to help QofS while still very active with Foo Fighters.....

I think he is my Fave drummer of all time.
