Guy spans entire history of rock n' roll with 100 riffs

From MSN: http://now.msn.com/now/0629-rock-riffs.aspx

The Chicago Music Exchange has posted this awesome video of a hundred riffs that showcase the development of Rock N' Roll. It's a real musical education and we think we can name just about every song with our eyes closed (If you can't, there's a helpful title in the corner of the video). This guy can seriously riff on an axe, and the mix of styles covered is kind of like if all the guys noodling at Guitar Center got in a line and treated you to an organized performance. Guitarists, just imagine: someday your riff could be one of these iconic jams.

They are right, this is awesome...totally awesome!! :89

I LOVE rock guitar! :79

Some of the more modern riffs I would never have guessed without the captions.

I think he did a great job of segueing between songs.

This thread could be a good place to post some of the songs with those riffs... or other "guitar riff" songs?

I noticed "Pictures of Matchstick men" attributed to someone I didn't recognise?

Here it is by Staus Quo

Status Quo is the only version I'm familiar with too!

But according to Wikipedia, there have been many cover versions (including these two):

In 1989, Camper Van Beethoven scored a USA number-one hit on the American Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks chart with their version from their album Key Lime Pie.

Ozzy Osbourne, backed by Type O Negative, covered it as part of the soundtrack to the Howard Stern biographical movie Private Parts in 1997
